Didn’t make it work, in March…

towelAs per my January and February workout accomplishments I still have not successfully completed my 4 day per week challenge at the gym, in March. It’s okay, I love a challenge! I also love color-coordinating the months! hee hee, March is green for St. Paddy’s Day. So here we go. Check out how I did:

March 1- 6
Mon: Boot Camp (6:45am – 7:30am). I don’t exactly dread Monday Boot Camp classes, but I wish we had the same instructor for this one. I don’t feel as if I’m being pushed enough. I sometimes just want to walk away, leave this class and jump on the treadmill. But I never do…
Tues: Boot Camp (5:15pm – 6:15pm) This is the last day that my favorite instructor is doing Boot Camp as she’s going away for vacation for a week-ish. I’ll miss her! :)
Wed: Strength (5:15pm – 6:15pm) It is so good to finally have this class back, and break up my Boot Camp schedule. Alfie’s Obedience School is now on Mondays, which is terrific timing! I also ended up running a mile on the treadmill while waiting for my boyfriend to finish his workout.
Thurs:
Keepin’ on schedule with my Core Conditioning
(5:30-6:00) & Wave (6:00-6:20) classes. Though I might end up switching to a different class as I don’t find this instructor works my core to its full potential. Though I do love the Wave machine! It burns those thighs of mine.

March 7-13
Mon: Boot Camp (6:45am – 7:30am) I was quite weak in this class, and couldn’t lift anything. Little did I know, the very next day I ended up getting a sinus flu and being off work for two days. Sad! :(

March 14-20
Mon: One whole week off from working out. Boot Camp (6:45am – 7:30am) Had another different teacher than the one that makes me yawn and not want to do the workouts. This one was a bit too fast paced. Poor us.
Tues:
Boot Camp (5:15pm – 6:15pm) Our instructor is back from vaycay! YAY! She worked us GOOOOOOOOD. I also ran a 9:30 mile on the treadmill to sweat it out a bit more waiting for my boyfriend to finish up at the gym. Love being on the treadmills next to him hehe!!
Wed: Strength (5:15pm – 6:00pm). We ended up doing a pyramid workout which killed me, as I tried to use 15lb weights in each hand, but sometimes had to swtich back down to the 10lb’ers. After class, I took Alfie for a longggg St. Paddy’s Day walk (short distance, he’s just slow lol)
Thurs:
Instead of my regular class duo of Core Conditioning & Wave, I decided to break up the monotony of that and join a spin class. I did Cycle 2 (5:30pm - 6:15pm). Killer since I’m such a beginner and went up to the next round, but worth it.

March 21-27
Mon: Boot Camp (6:45am – 7:30am) I didn’t sweat in this class. Lame.
Tues:
I skipped today’s workout, mainly to get some cleaning done around the house, and some extra sleep. Since I was ill the previous night!
Wed: Strength (5:15pm – 6:00pm). What can I say about this one month in, and month out? Always a great workout.
Thurs: Cycle 2 (5:30pm - 6:15pm). I think this is my go-to class on Thursdays. End the week with a bang. Incredible workout. I always need to fill up my water bottle during the middle of the class. This cycle class beats the sh** out of me! LOVE it.

March 28- March 31
Mon: I skipped today’s workout. Whoops. After the BF did the 30k road race the day prior, he decided to take a week off the gym. Only I decided not to wake up early.
Tues:
…and today too. I was at the other branch eating potluck! What can I say? :(

Wed:
Strength (5:15pm – 6:00pm) Well. At least I plan on going to this class tonight. We’ll SEE!?

I had no motivation this month. I’ll have to re-do it and set my goals again for attending the gym 4x per week in April. GOALS people. “Never look down on anybody unless you’re helping them up.”

Don’t be afraid

It’s difficult moving to a new city and finding a new hair stylist, don’t you think?

I’ve only had one great stylist in my lifetime and it was for a mere two years or less. Unfortunately for me, he disappeared into thin air one day and I was stuck going to the owner of the salon. He didn’t do a fantastic job on me, and ended up always cutting off more than I could handle. He didn’t get tipped very well, let me tell you.

I moved to Ontario and ended up going to the dreaded First Choice Hair Cutters for the first little while. The split ends were non-stop. Do. Not Recommend.

Finally, a new salon opened up in walking distance of our apartment building and I’ve been going to this guy ever since. Except there’s a few things that are bothersome when I go there. Let me organize a pretty little list for you.

  1. He pushes products on me. I’ve talked about this before.
  2. He always wants to wash my hair. (I only accept “head massages” if they’re good. He’s not good. Plus, it costs extra for a shampoo!)
  3. He straightens the heck out of my already flat, straight hair. I always end up putting my hair in a pony tail straight after I come out of the salon.

I keep going back, because I don’t have to go to his salon that often. He cuts my hair so great that I end up going to him once every 4 or 5 months! I’m only now showing signs of minor split ends and I can’t even recall when my last cut was. November? I don’t remember!

I booked an appointment in early February, for late March. This was the length of my hair before I went in. Beautiful, no? Okay, maybe it was a bit ratty looking. No hate.

beforeExcept when I re-booked for March. He ended up canceling on me.A way out!” I thought. So I jumped the gun and ended up leaving a voice mail for Mister Hair cutter himself, and canceling my re-booked appointment with him, and WENT TO ANOTHER SALON. Oh the shock, and horror.

So. I went to the top hair stylist in the salon, as they were listed on their website

  • New Talent (no thanks. Don’t need newbies screwing up my hair)
  • Advanced
  • Master – I went to this fabulous man named Dan.

He cut my hair. I had the best scalp massage I have had in years. I got a hand massage and also some products to take home.

Here’s the before and afters right next to one another. Hot dang. It looks gooooood. I’m not afraid to compliment myself.

I’m pleased, no doubt. I mean, I straighten + blow dry my hair every day. So it says something about his scissor skills. Right?

after

I’m not sure how long I want my hair to be. I like the length that it is now, but my ‘bangs’ (I quote, because I haven’t had bangs since 8th grade) still isn’t the same length as the rest of my hair. Perhaps I’ll be done with the length as it is, and just grow my ‘bangs’ (or layers, whatever they are) out and I’ll be set. I think I love this length on me. I haven’t dyed my hair in over a year now and not professionally since 2008! Primarily I want to see what my natural hair color is like for a little while before I go gray. But I want to try something wild again! And since I’ve found a new stylist (because the other guy I went to didn’t “do” crazy colors lol), my new stylist can maybe do that for me!after-haircut-smile

flashClearly, I love it. Oh, and my hair isn’t really that like — I don’t think. It’s the flash that made it red/brown.

In order for them to do something crazy on me, I’ll have to start from scratch again and they’ll have to work to get my trust in dying my hair. I haven’t dyed my hair in about a year and a half just so I could see what shade my natural hair color was. Oh the circle of life…

hairI just had to take another one. He curled my hair just using a round brush. This one shows it really well. EEEE!!! Ignore my ugly chair and dirty desk, I was catching up on some google-reader reads.

Twitter networking

I think twitter is really great. There are so many endless networking possibilities. I mentioned on there the other day that I was looking for plane tickets so the BF and I could fly to BC to attend Ironman Canada again in August. Then what do you know, @Canadaironman ended up following me on twitter. I took notice, and wrote him a friendly hello and he “Direct Messaged” me saying:

canadairoman Thank you for following Ironman Canada! Wishing you all the best in your grueling training. Keep it up! Ron Zalko Founder of Ironman Canada”.

Pretty impressive, I have to say. I thought that was the coolest thing that he wrote me. I showed Scott and promptly replied to him: “canadairoman Thanks! My boyfriend does all the suffering. He completed his first Ironman (at Penticton!) last year :) See you in August!”

Boy oh boy. It’s the little things in life that makes me smile.

So who wants to sponsor my Boyfriend in training? Haha!! He’s pretty hardcore, if I do say so myself. He’s self-motivated by training alone all the time, and not missing a workout. All that training in home gyms he’s in impeccable shape. I cannot wait to see him complete his second Ironman, this year. :)

Recap of our vacation + Ironman in 6 parts (1), (2), (3), (4), (5), and (6).

Oh! I’m getting my hair cut at a new (to me) salon tomorrow. I’m pretty sure I’m not going to cut much off except have a trim. But stay tuned for before/after pictures! Have a heck of a good Friday evenin’!
