What I Ate Wednesday #3

What I Ate Wednesday
The third instalment of “WIAW’s”! I enjoy doing these, since I love lurking into what everyone else seems to eat in the run of a day. So I’ll keep this going, as long as it entertains me :)

I definitely didn’t try to make most of my photos pretty today, like that yucky looking pizza shot. It was delicious and I was too excited to eat it to visually style it blogger-style.

morning smoothie9:25am — I made a berry smoothie with Skoop once again. This is a recycled photo from the weekend. But it kinda counts, as it’s the same ingredients.

morning snack10:45am — I made a snack plate before heading to the gym. Good thing I did because I spent 75 minutes at yoga, and 90 minutes bouldering.

Trader Joes sample3:30pm — Swung by Trader Joe’s to pick up a few groceries, always have to stop at their sample bar area. This one was a mango sorbet with a nice little cracker.

Trader Joes Pineapple Juice3:45pm — So thirsty. Bought this little can of pure pineapple juice (no sugar added!) for $0.75 at Trader Joes. Cracked into’er immediately. Refreshing.

wiaw pizza lunch4:30pm — Ate my two slices of home-made pizza lunch and threw away half the mango. It was gross, probably not ripe enough.

wiaw good supper10:30pm — I’m surprised I even took a photo of my supper, as I was starving at this point. The Guy ended up getting home way later than anticipated. So, I waited. My supper was devoured within about 92 seconds. Everything you see from supper is from Trader Joe’s, basically.

Fitness recap: Ten K’s, yoga and bouldering

I thought yesterday was June 17, but it’s today. Which means it’s mine and The Guy’s 9 year dating anniversary!

Scott nancy 2005I’m so glad he kept bugging me to date him, look at us now — down here in California almost a decade later, still happy as ever.

My hip flexor (or muscle around that area) seems to hate it when I run “long distances”, so I’ve been taking it easy ever since I noticed pain when lifting my right leg up the stairs. I wasn’t sure whether or not yoga aggravated it, or doing more running than usual. I have never in my entire life ran a double digit run before last week, and hello two 10km runs? After my second 10k in two weeks, I’ve decided to stop running half way through last week to heal it, and do more yoga and bouldering. We’ll see how it goes—I better not lose my rhythm when I get back into running, I hate starting over.

yoga selfieI posted this yoga selfie on Thursday. Apparently it’s winner winner chicken dinner, not wiener wiener. ;)

Monday June 9: 75 minutes of “noon” yoga, and three hours of top roping (climbing) with Ellen

Tuesday June 10: 6.12 mile run in 1:05:36, I thought I was at the 10km mark but that’s 6.21. Gah!

Wednesday June 11:  2.5 mile run in 23:47

Thursday June 12: 75 minutes of power yoga, and 1 hour of bouldering

Friday June 13: Off

Saturday June 14: Off

Sunday June 15: 2 hour walk with The Guy & Alfie

Tone It Up, Flamingo DuffleI bought this gym bag on a whim after a late night YouTube watching session with the Tone It Up girls (I’m not a member). But I loved Katrina’s pink bag better than my reusable grocery bag. I spent way too much money on it, but I bought it anyway. Hope it arrives soon.

I’ve been eating clean for the last 3 weeks, mainly due to the fact that I was pigging out, and not working out frequently which made my clothes ill fitting. If you’ve been following me on instagram, you know that I’ve been making The Guy and I morning smoothies every single day. Skoop must have noticed my #smoothie pictures and contacted me asking me if I’d like to try out their product.

skoopSure why not. I’m brand new on taking superfoods, or even powdered drinks after a workout. I normally come home and grab a handful of nuts or fruit, after a workout and be set.

Skoop mixingGotta say, I didn’t have high expectations for this as I’ve never been one to put added powdered stuff to my drinks after a workout. Mainly because I’m lazy and the fact they all leave a funky after-taste. I was definitely skeptical of running my morning smoothie with Skoop. I tried out the Chocofresh and definitely was surprised. Typically I use Trader Joe’s pure unsweetened cocoa in the smoothie, which leaves a bitter after-taste. But this one left a fruity chocolate taste to the smoothie. I made one for the both of us, and have been adding a scoop of skoop (ha!) to the smoothies every morning. Unfortunately though, the bag costs $65! As much as it says the product is good for you, I definitely cannot afford that. Too bad, as it’s absolutely delicious.

Skoop smoothieI should start drinking this moreso after my yoga and bouldering sessions rather than first thing in the morning. But it’s honestly so good, I can’t wait til the afternoon to have one.

Here’s a bit more information that was shared with me in the initial e-mail:

Skoop is an organic non-GMO superfoods powdered formula, rich in antioxidants, adaptogens and probiotics. It’s non-allergen (no dairy, soy, gluten) and great for fighting inflammation, stress and bad gut bacteria. It’s a wonderful post workout drink because it’s so alkalizing in the body and helps promote a quick recovery.

There are no mysterious fillers or “potion” like concoctions hidden within. It’s clean, organic and all non-GMO. Plus 10% of every bag is donated to a national non-profit that provides fresh produce to children in schools. It’s basically buy one, give one. It’s a great mission and we’re looking to really do some good here!

Thinking Outloud Thursday #1

My first Thinking Out Loud post. Thought this would be great for those lazy weeks where I just want to type a sentence per photo, instead of telling a story or write a full blog post on just one topic. Here, we go!

1. I have been so incredibly warm this week in our town house that I saw actual water droplets on my cheeks and nose while making the bed. Why did I not jump in the pool? #FirstWorldProblems.

LaSportiva climbing shoes2. After 75 minutes of yoga, and THREE hours of climbing, Ellen and I were still crushing 5.10c’s. I’m so proud of ourselves.

Año Nuevo State Park3. Jessica invited me along to the beach with her family last Saturday. I can just sit at the beach for hours (which we did) and enjoy the ocean, and play in the sand (like the child that I am). I enjoyed every minute of it.

Burger Santa Cruz4. Once we had our beach fix, Jessica told me about this burger joint in Santa Cruz, appropriately called, Burger. It hit the spot.

Alfies new bed5. I bought Alfie a new day bed, identical to his old one that I reviewed four years ago (note how different puppy face Alfie looks?!). I got the first one for free to review, from this site called CSN (which no longer exists) but I’m glad I found an identical one, and decided on a different colour this time. They made some improvements with the new bed, a removable cover! Finally. Note I called it a day bed because he sleeps in his crate at night in our bedroom.

Speck iPhone case6. This is the prettiest phone case I’ve seen in a while. I gave it to Jessica, because it’s an iPhone case from Speck, and I have a BlackBerry.

Computer History Museum7. The Guy and I went to the Computer History Museum in Mountain View last weekend and had a fantastic time reminiscing about things we used to have as kids. But one thing that stood out to me was the Google self-driving car. Have you heard of it?! It was insane and we were behind one on the freeway going to the museum.

Google8. After the museum, we were in the same vicinity as Google’s headquarters. I wanted to see what it looked like there, so we took a little tour.

Google donut9. I like your the bigger-than-lifesized food, Google!

10. Unroll Me is a non-gimicky website, where it unsubscribes you from whatever e-mails you choose to unsubscribe from, all in one click. It’s pretty awesome. But some companies are sneaky and keep putting you back on their list. I’ve been using it for a few months, and I’ve been meaning to tell you guys about it. But keep forgetting to!

Sunshine Grace11. Got a new perfume from Philosophy, it’s called Sunshine Grace and smells like summer. It’s gorgeous, I can definitely smell some hints of coconut, and vanilla. Perfect scent for these California sunny days.

Skoop12. Lastly, I’ve been trying to incorporate post workout drinks to refuel my body after a boulder session, or a run. Skoop sent me some products to try out. More on this, later!
