Two trips to the hospital and…

Nothing entirely major. But,I’m planning two trips to the hospital today. Why? Well I guess I don’t exactly talk much about it on my website, do I — so you all probably have absolutely no idea what’s going on in that regard. I’d like to think I have an abnormally high pain tolerance and I don’t know where I got it from because on the other end, I’m such a worry wart that my stomach is almost always in knots before a game, before a staff meeting, and everything in between.

To give you a rundown; I pulled something in my ankle in summer 2008 outdoor soccer. I collided with another player as we tried to hit the soccer ball at the exact same time. I’m a right (sometimes left) wing, playing striker. So the defenders are usually broader, much taller women that are twice the size of me. So when my right foot hit the soccer ball on the inside of my foot as I was about to pass/kick it, something tore, or pulled. It felt like I had broken my foot. I’m not one to fall to the ground and have the whistle blown against the other player. I try to sub off the field.  But sometimes referee’s are jackasses and won’t let me off. I had tears forming in my eyes, trying not to let them roll down my face. I wasn’t able to put any weight on it, so I didn’t do anything. I stood on the field until I was allowed off.

I was fine, the next day. 100%.

It never made much sense to me. I tried wrapping it, I tried arnica cream (that apparently works wonders for my team mates, but not I) . It never swelled up, or bruised.

Ever since then I couldn’t go more than 3 games indoor or outdoor without doing the same damage, over and over. Occasionally I’ll favor my left leg and limp a wee bit. I decided not to go to my family doctor in Guelph which is about a 45 minute drive out of my direction, obviously in another city. Plus since she “forgot” about one of my diagnosis / didn’t write it in my chart — I haven’t been back to her since.

I decided enough was enough, when I finally hurt it one more time on November 15. I was playing indoor and during the first few minutes of the second half I came 0n the field subbing for one of my players and I tore my ankle apart. I came off almost 2 minutes into my play time and had to come off. I sat down again, and just held my leg so it wouldn’t touch the ground. I knew I didn’t break it because I could move it a bit, but it was just unbearable and frustrating that something like this kept happening.

I went to my Chiropractor about 5 months ago to get him to fix it, but all he’s been doing is adjusting some stuff and it’s fine for a day or two but as soon as I play soccer it does something and whatever is happening in there, tears. So, I decided to quit going to the chiropractor altogether (mainly because my insurance doesn’t cover any more costs for the year — I’ll have to wait for January if I want to go back to him), and go to a Sports Medicine clinic in the city where a soccer team mate recommended that I go (plus, she works there!).

I went on Monday, and had xray’s. The Doctor also mentioned I should get a bone scan, which is this morning at 11:15 at a hospital that I have never been to, or seen in person. I printed off a route to get there on google maps, and apparently I’ll have to find some off street parking because it’s on a main road, and it costs $6 to park. Since I have to visit twice that day, I’m  not paying $12 for my bone scan if I don’t have to.

They inject my hand with some dye for a half hour and I leave once that’s done, and ocme back three hours later after my system has been poisoned filled up with dye and go back at 2:15 for the scan.

Hassle hassle.

The Doctor said if the bone scan and xray’s don’t show anything (whether it be a fracture, or bone chip in my talus) he’ll have to book a CT scan and MRI if the latter three doesn’t work.

Let’s get to the bottom of this.

Here I come, treadmill!

gym[The gym that I used to attend]

When I switched offices from one city to the one that I live in, I almost immediately went over to the gym that I used to attend (I ‘quit’ in May 2008 because I was bored and unmotivated after 6 months of being a gym-junkie), and asked if I could sign up. I knew that regardless of working in the exact same building as the gym I would get a discount — but not an amazing deal if I called myself a spouse of my boyfriend’s work place. If I told them I worked here at the Financial Institution the cost of a year membership would cost me $440. I personally like to pay upfront because I hate having monthly payments, and I especially hate giving anyone my credit card number for such a long time — they could mess up my payments and I’m not having that hassle. With my Boyfriend’s company I could pay $375 for the year, which is an incredible deal.

I went over and of course I receive a woman that I dealt with in the past who probably doesn’t remember me. But she was definitely not having a sunshiny happy day and didn’t want to give me the spouse deal because it wasn’t January yet. That was about 6 weeks ago.

Well! Have I got some news for HER when I go there this afternoon.

My Boyfriend sent me an e-mail yesterday:

We are pleased to advise you that your 2010 membership forms are ready to be completed at your earliest convenience. blah blah blah. Feel free to bring a coworker, spouse or friend and they can workout for free for the balance of 2009 when they sign for 2010.

AH HA! Got you there, gym-lady-worker!

I look forward to meeting with her, this afternoon.

I’m really excited, because I have literally become a blob. I’m not saying I’m fat. I’m just out of shape right now and my mid-section isn’t as fit as it used to be when I was climbing 5x a week. All I do now is go to soccer once a week and sit on the couch the rest of the days. It’s become a bad habit. Not even new running shoes motivated me, and I purchased them in July! C’mon! It’ll be tough to skip the gym seeing as I have to walk past it every day as the atrium/lobby in the building only has our financial institution, a small cafe/coffee shop and the gym. Personally I’m excited to sign up for the free fitness classes, and run on the treadmill with the TVs.

Get ready, because this blog very well may turn into one of the Healthy Lifestyle blogs. :)

We’ll see what time brings…

Keeping ontop of things

Keeping on top of things I’m going to the grocery store to pick up some items that I missed on Friday. I just wanted to do out a list to keep everything in order, or just to keep track of things in case I want to make my own trail mix again.

Wow. We have a lot of trail mix nuts/sweets. I bought a bit too much at Bulk Barn and over spent a wee bit, and I’m pretty sure that we have enough snacks for literally three months. It’s a bit ridiculous to be honest. At least it won’t go bad?

I made a list, so that I don’t end up buying unnecessary grocery items that will eventually be wasted by sitting in the fridge too long, because I’m too lazy to cook. If I have a meal plan, I don’t get lazy because I know exactly what’s for supper.

My Grocery List:

Bulk Barn
Walnuts
(all the nuts are for making trail mixes to bring to work the next week)
Mini M&M’s
Icy Squares (lol)
Almonds
Pistachios
Sunflower seeds
Raisins
Chocolate Chips
(to put in trail mix and maybe banana bread too?)
Baking soda

Bread pan (going to make banana bread again)

nutsI obviously grocery shopped on Friday (in the POURING rain) which is okay. Because some man commented to me that “Yep. You’re going to have to brave the rain”, with me pushing my shopping cart to my car. I didn’t even care actually. Because I remember how gruesome it was waiting for the bus, standing in puddles and getting splashed by cars, and just being completely miserable. So, I walked to my car in the pouring rain with not exactly a smile on my face but just content that I’m getting in a CAR.

Crossing off the stuff because I bought it already.

Grocery Store
sausages
salsa
apples (bought some Honey Crisp because I know that you, and you enjoy them and I wanted to try them out!)
plums
bananas
potatoes (10lb bag for $2.99!)
asparagus
pad thai noodles
pad thai sauce

butter
canned mushrooms
meatballs (blue menu)
angus burgers (blue menu brand = ♥)

Walmart
Milk (it’s so much cheaper at walmart)
Gum
And I’ll also go through my coupons to see if I can get some freebies this week.

The Meal Plan:
SUN: Pork stir fry (recipe)
MON: Roast chicken with veggies! (picking up either a half or full cooked chicken at the grocery on this day)
TUE: Tusan sandwich (this hasn’t made it to the recipe section at all, because it’s quite boring really…)
WED: Gemeli (basically noodles, cheese and sauce)
THU: Chicken breasts, broccoli and garlic potatoes
FRI: Spaghetti and meat balls
SAT: Asparagus wrapped in chicken (recipe)
SUN: Chicken pad thai (recipe)

Wow. We really eat a lot of pasta, and chicken. Oh well! It’s yums in my tum.

I mean, I don’t exactly stick to the meal plan like glue. Randomly my Boyfriend or I may suggest something that we haven’t had in a while, and I’ll make that instead. For example, he hates taco’s and I couldn’t wait to eat them. But since he feels as if he gets sick every time he eats them, for one night last week I didn’t made them, I made a penne pasta bake and had taco’s the next night heh heh…
