How to put moisture back in your hair

tips-for-brittle-hair

Winters are dry, no doubt. They will reek havoc on your hair if you don’t take some necessary precautions to keep those locks growing. I had a hair cut 3 weeks ago and noticed I was already getting split ends due to the weather and not looking after my hair.

I know you cannot mend split ends, so I trimmed them myself at home using probably inappropriate scissors. Hey, gotta do what you gotta do right?

To give you a run down my hair is prone to breakage, it’s fine but I have a lot of it. Figures, as soon as I pay any attention to my hair it goes to utter crap.

long-hair-daysI used to not care about my hair for most of my life. I mean, check out that long hair I had when I was younger! I did nothing to it. It was healthy. Now, I style it with heat, wear it up at night and to CrossFit.

Last January I started training my hair. I wasn’t washing, and blow drying it every single day any more. Right now I’m to the point where I’m washing it twice a week. It’s annoying, I gotta say — since my hair separates and makes me look bald. So I have to get creative with the dry shampoo and minimal teasing of the hair, for it to look presentable to go out in public. But it’s doable!

My trick as of late? Argan oil.

I put it on my ends two nights in a row before washing my hair. I tried putting just one drop of the oil on second-day hair and it looked good. You just have to know how much you can apply on your hair. For me, one drop was plenty.

Josie-Maran-Argan-OilsWhen I apply it in my hair the night before I wash it, 5 drops. So it’s good and greasy. So sexy. Not to worry, it’s up in a pony tail and only applied to the ends and I wash it all off the next morning.

Most people love their hair on second day. I personally prefer clean hair. Whenever I shampoo my hair it feels more airy around each strand and the strands of hair doesn’t cling together. Plus, I have some pretty silky smooth hair and I love it.

I’ve purchased some cloth hair bands to minimize breakage. I know pony tail holders will break the hair thus making it harder to grow. I cannot stand my hair up in a pony anyway, but sometimes it’s needed when working out.

The less I wash my hair lately, the happier it is and the less oil it produces.  principess-dry-shampoo I use the Principessa beauty Matte Breeze dry shampoo on the days I don’t wash my hair. You can purchase it from The Bay. I couldn’t find it anywhere else. I like this since it’s for darker hair shades, which means the powder is tinted a caramel brown color that blends in with my hair. You can’t use too much of it otherwise it will feel like build-up in your hair. Just a sprinkle will do. I had a small one of these that I got in my very first TopBox in early 2012, which lasted me a good 6 months. I’m sure this one will last me 1.5 years at the rate I’m going through it. josie-maran-argan-oil

Argan-oilsI redeemed my Sephora points for the Josie Maran kit that came with the oil (shown on the left) and the mini one on the right hand side is the one I received in my January ipsy bag.

This is the very first oil I’ve ever tried in my hair and I only have gotten into it in the last 2 months. So I’m not an expert on putting coconut oil, or any other type of oil in my hair besides Argan.

What is your hair type, and how often do you wash it?

Do you use special treatments in your hair such as deep conditioners, or oils?

Head to toe pampering

Before I get started on this post, I want to thank everyone who e-mailed and commented about my rough bitter-sweet week on Friday’s blog post. All of your comments brought a smile to my face, knowing that you’re all thinking about my family and I. So I wanted to let each and every one of you know how much I appreciated those words.

I’m so glad I ended up taking today off work. Our flight was delayed leaving Quebec City on this dingy little airplane with two seaters. Smallest plane I’ve been on in ages. It didn’t even have TV’s! lol I’m surprised they came around with complimentary juice, pop and water for us seeing how it was such a small plane. I slept the entire way, which is only a little under an hour and a half. Then our commute back home which was close to an hour.

My day off today consisted of 4 loads of laundry, 2 sets of dishes and I went to pick up Alfie this morning. He was crying and shaking, he was so excited to see me. I’ve never seen him act so insane. Just kept on bouncing up and down wanting me to pick him up, let him down, and pick him up again. Ha! The boyfriend hasn’t seen him yet since he’s not back from work yet, so that’ll be another exciting moment for Alfie in a few hours.

I just got back from the spa. Head to toe pampering, truly amazing on this snowy chilly Tuesday. However, it was delayed from this morning to this afternoon. But since I took the day off work, I didn’t have any qualms about it. I had a deep tissue massage that ended up being a little painful in certain parts (where my ‘knots’ were), and my first ever facial which was so interesting. I’m definitely could get used to getting a facial every so often. I found out so much information on my skin it was really quite interesting to hear. Especially the products I should be using on my face. Of course, the woman doing the facial tried to sell me on the creams she was using, which I wasn’t planning to do. I like to do my research before I go out and buy products. So I had her write all the information down, hah.

I have to gather all of the photos I took from this weekend and compile them into one large ol’ post for you guys to see what we did this weekend. I’ll tell you something, if we ever go there again in the winter, I’ll be bringing a lot more snow clothes to wear! We ended up wearing all of the clothes we brought each day. As in, layering a ridiculous amount to try and stay warm. I’m glad now I didn’t book us a room at the Ice Hotel! I ended up wearing leggings, 2 pairs of pants, 3 tank tops and 3 shirts/sweaters and a coat. Mind you, it was probably the wind that cut into us making us more colder. So in hindsight it would’ve been great to pack snow pants, and a snow jacket. I even had a thick scarf wrapped around my face with sunglasses and a thick winter hat on.

Quebec-Carnaval-003This is what I basically looked like the entire three days of our trip. At one point I was complaining so much I made us stop into the pharmacy and get those hand warmers that you stick into your gloves. Whoever invented those was genius and I love them for it.

I’ll leave you with that! See you tomorrow evening once I write up a little re-cap of our trip!

Time to jaunt over to the spa

its-spa-day

Pep pep! Time to jaunt over to the spa and get a facial and massage on my day off!

I had an extra vacation day from last year so I decided to take today off. It’s especially nice, since we just got back from our Quebec City trip last night and I woke up early to pick Alfie up from the dog sitters (which is actually our trainer who is superbly awesome with him).  Today is a day to catch up and relax.

I’ve never had a facial before, so I’m pretty excited about that. My first spa massage in a few years was just in November and it was pretty relaxing, but this time I’m getting a deeper tissue massage to get out any knots in my back.

I’ll try to take some photos in the spa if I can, not sure if that would be allowed or not, we’ll see. Also I want to tell you all about our weekend getaway!

Have you ever been to a spa?
I honestly never go to these places, but I had some gift cards I needed to use up, so I’m usin’ them up today!

Ever get a professional massage?
This will be my third one.
