Simplified beauty routine for Winter

simplified-beauty-routine
I’ve simplified my beauty routine in the mornings this winter. Only because I don’t want to have dry patches on my already dry skin! So this is what I do for my dry skin in winter, as I’m feeling more parched than usual.

What I’m using:

  • Philosophy Hope In A Jar — This is a great whipped moisturizer that I received a generous sample of to try out, and blog about. I fell in love with it and bought a full sized version at Sephora last week.
  • Bobbi Brown Luminous Moisturizing Foundation — This foundation gives a light to medium coverage, which is buildable. I’m not sure if my skin is acting up or if I’m not exfoliating and moisturizing enough, but this has been wearing off my skin before the days end. It didn’t used to.
  • Sonia Kashuk concealer — My holy grail concealer and I cannot wait until Target Canada opens up so I can finally get another quad. I’ve used up the entire dark concealer and the light one I’m scraping the edges of. It’s great, since it does not crease under your eyes. It’s the only place I apply this concealer (or any other, for that matter)
  • Make Up For Ever Smoky Lash — Great mascara, I will always have an emergency back up of this and will never be without it! It’s a drier consistency which I like and it adds incredible volume and length that people think I’m wearing false eyelashes. Look!
  • Bobbi Brown Extra Eye Repair Cream — A definite indulgence for an eye cream. But that small jar shown in the photo below will last me 7 months. I’ve blogged about it before, and I’m blogging about how great it is again. It’s the first thing I put on my face (er, eyes) in the morning after washing it. Concealer blends so effortlessly on top of it. It’s such a rich, hydrating cream that I somehow cannot go without. Doesn’t burn the eyes, either.
  • Philosophy Purity Cleanser — I purchased the biggest bottle I could, last winter and I’m about half way through. It’s a gentle cleanser that removes waterproof mascara yet it never leaves my skin feeling tight or dry. I hear this is great to use on a clarisonic if you own one.

MAKE UP FOR EVER launches the Technicolor Palette

Spring is usually known for pastel shades, and not the most daring of shades. However Make Up For Ever likes to change the game and come out with some playful bold colors for the upcoming warm weather.

MAKE UP FOR EVER introduces the exclusive limited edition Technicolor Palette. It has a combination of some pretty wild, yet wearable colors, and has a few neturals for work appropriate looks. That doesn’t mean you can’t apply Spring’s “it” color, yellow all over the eyelids if you’re daring, unlike me.

Seeing how I’m a natural makeup wearer, I like seeing this sort of style on eyes: Just a splash of color on the lower eyelash line, and the rest of the eye stays pretty neutral. Like what this eyeball lady did below:

This person did the “color splash” well, mind you they’re not make up for ever specific colors.

You can have so much fun with this Technicolor Palette. I really like the vibrancy of the lilac and teal shades for some added fun for Spring 2013. And since it’s a fairly small palette at about 5″ wide, you can bring it along with you while you travel and it doesn’t really get in the way or take up too much space.

I can only imagine the eye catching looks that you can possibly create with these great colors. Apple green would look great on brown eyes

When you think of it, there’s only really 3 daring colors in the palette (yellow, green and teal), so while at first glance it may look intimidating, remember that there’s 5 great neutrals for every day wear.

Fun fact: Dany Sanz, Creator & Artistic Director of MAKE UP FOR EVER, has long been interested in saturated color and creating high pigmentation on images. Sanz created Technicolor using the same technique employed by filmmakers, over-saturating her shadow colors to make them appear more alive.

The Technicolor Palette has hit Sephora stores and Make Up For Ever boutiques across Canada in February. It retails for $50. The palette compact has a mirror and also features two round brushes.

Are hair extensions weird?

Do you think hair extensions are weird? Honest answer. All my readers comment and vote, and not just the one’s interested in beauty!

The first time I heard about hair extensions was on YouTube. I thought it was the strangest thing, and thought only a select few people wore them. So many questions raced through my brain:

  • What if they fell out?
  • Can you tell that they look fake?
  • Would you judge me? lol
  • Will it be damaging?
  • How long do they last?
  • How much are they?

halohairextension1Rach from Pink Peonies wears them. Look how natural they look!

The reason why I’d rather clip in, than spend $500 + hours in a salon to have them sewn in, is because I may regret them, feel them in my hair and freak out. Plus, I don’t know how to care for them if they’re permanently attached to my head.

The after a few years of watching countless people show the world how to clip them (or “install them” as I like to call it) into their own hair, and blend them in — I’m sucked in. I kind of want a pair. Who knows if/when I buy a pair, wilL I actually have the courage to leave the house with them on. Everyone knows what style my hair is, and how little of it I actually have. Walking into work with a full head of hair down to my hips would definitely look odd.

But before you say no. Let me give you something to think about. You can dye them. You can style them to blend with your hair. I’d bring them into my hair stylist and clip them in, and ask her to cut them to an ideal length (1-3 inches longer than my natural hair). Seems okay, right?

These are the two companies I’ve heard good things about:

I actually contacted a rather unknown company a few years ago, presenting the perfect hair candidate (ie: ME…) since I do have fine hair that doesn’t seem to like to grow past a little bit beneath my shoulders. Hello right? I, as you probably would’ve guessed, got denied. I didn’t really think anything of it, since that comes with the territory. Plus, I don’t really film YouTube videos anymore. But I do blog!

Anyway. What I’m getting at is that I’ve done my research and I’m kind of looking at getting a set of … fake hair… for myself. God, just typing that grosses me out.

Let me know in the comments, what you think of them! Honest answers appreciated!
