Bike class journey

I went to my first cycling class at the gym last night.

After just six minutes, I felt like leaving the class.

I thought I had a tiny bit of endurance at least! But I really haven’t been a fan of biking my whole life, I was more involved with running and sprinting/stopping and going. It was a beginners class and thankfully there were guys just as clueless as I was in the class. I was fiddling with my seat height and adjusting the bars on the fitness equipment, when I finally didn’t know what one of the levers were for. The guy’s guess, jokingly (I think he was joking at least) said he didn’t know — maybe it was a TOWEL RACK!! I nearly fell off my bike with laughter.

The class was scheduled to be 45 minutes long. I don’t think I’ve seen the clock move so slowly in my life, but thankfully after thirty bloody painful minutes on the bike I got my second wind. Oh is it ever so wonderful to get that second burst of energy. I could never keep the cadence up to 100 rpm like she wanted us to, especially on setting number 19! It only goes to 25! After the class was over, the guy next to me whispered “and I thought this was a beginner class!” I could barely speak, and I nodded and wheezed out “I know hey?” I was dead by the end of it. I kept coughing the whole night because — you know the feeling if you run outside in the cold? Throat burn? That’s what I had all last night and it totally seemed like I had bad smoker’s cough or something.

Brutal.

I’m glad that cycling doesn’t leave you in pain the next day. Kind of makes me want to go back for a second class. At least the instructor — her first time teaching spin class, with her huge quads; apologized to us after the fact that she made the beginner class harder than it should be. Ooops?

Oh. And that “towel rack” lever? I found out after, it was to put the resistance up to a more difficult level.  ;)

Terrible Tuesdays

I felt so busy yesterday evening, but I don’t even know what I really accomplished. When I got off work, I picked up the BF at his work and we headed home. I filled up the sink, once again with hot water. I tend to leave dishes soaking for a few hours to get the gunk off them, but the night before — the day we came back to Ontario, I left the sink full when I went to bed and the BF had to reach down in the murkey water and drain it. HA! Oops. So I did those dishes while cooking some delicious chicken pad thai (recipe!) and cooked the chicken on the grill my mom passed down to me after she got a newer one for Christmas. Helloooooo panini’s. Anyone have advise as to what sort of bread I should use to make my panini?

After supper finished up I cleaned the bathroom, I contemplated doing laundry but then backtracked on that immediately because I knew I’d have to use all five of the washers downstairs in the apartment building. We headed out to pick up Boris (our hedgehog) and brought him home from his little vacation place while we were in Newfoundland.

Tonight I must do laundry. I don’t mind doing the laundry, I just hate that there never seems to be a place for it to be put away once folded. There’s not enough room in this place. But not before I pop into the gym for a little spin on the bike action. It’s my first bike class I’ve attended, so hopefully they’ll push me for those 45 minutes like I’ve never pushed before.

Don’t forget to enter into my second ever contest (but first one of 2010!), a $25 grab bag from Cover Your Hair. You have until next Tuesday to enter.

Yikes. This was a really boring post!

Chilly day inside and out

This morning, I received a phone call 6 minutes before my alarm went off (don’t you hate it when you’re disturbed before your alarm!?) and it was one of the managers telling me to dress warm at work since the heating wasn’t working. I got into work at it was 10º/50º. The ink in my pen wouldn’t even work! I wore leggings, pants, socks, and three tops on my upper half — to make matters worse, my left passenger back door in my car is ‘stuck’.

When we got back from the airport yesterday morning, I thought it was just frozen shut since it was sitting out in the cold for nine days. However, this morning it still seemed as if it was frozen. The BF is going to google if this is a common occurrence with Mazda 3 hatches. I personally just want to bring it into Mazda and get them to fix it, since my car is under warranty until this March. It was just frozen shut! It works again now!!!

Funny how different types of cold affects you. In Newfoundland we have a damp cold. When I went home for vacation I thought it was the warmest day ever and didn’t even want to wear a winter coat. Mostly because it was mild and above zero. By the end of it though, I acclimatized to it and got chillier as the days went on — but when I flew into Toronto, I was back “home” so to speak, and standing outside with my lululemon pants on, it was something like -11º and no wind. The BF was shivering, but I was standing still, obviously cold but not as cold as I was back home due to the wind, and dampness. I tell you, I definitely like the weather up here a lot more. Especially the fact that there’s hardly any wind. I had to brush my hair like 8 times a day when I was home, and it hurt!! So many tangles from the wind. Brutal.

Going to go make us some pad thai for supper tonight. Yum yum.

So, that’s my Monday! How was yours? lol
