Shabby Apple

I e-mailed Shabby Apple back in December asking if I could do a review of one of their articles of clothing, on my website. They promptly wrote back mentioning that they have a company policy about shipping outside of the states and I would have to pay for shipping. That wasn’t a problem, because quite honestly how much would it really cost to have in my hands? I first picked out the half zip jacket from the athletic wear section of their website. Isn’t it super cute? Almost like a lululemon style zip up, perfect for a warm up piece for the gym. Unfortunately Shabby Apple couldn’t allow me to do a review on the new fitness line. As they don’t have the rights to, from the company who actually makes that line.

Bummer.

I guess I could purchase it without problems though, obviously. They did give me an option of two of their popular dresses, Anchors Away or the cute aqua colored 90wpm dress. I chose the 90wpm dress in an extra small.

After I chose the dress, I wrote the company telling them which dress I’d like to review and I mentioned that I realized I would have to pay the shipping – not a problem! However, I should have asked how much the shipping would cost me initially, as I was surprised when they invoiced me for $29.95. I had the option to pay it, and I didn’t mind doing so as I mentioned before, it’s a review and paying for shipping was fine. Except … $29.95 for a light weight, cotton dress to ship to Canada?

The ladies I dealt with throughout the process were quite kind and prompt with their replies, and I would definitely deal with them again in the future since I’m definitely eying the half zip jacket. In fact, if you purchase from their Shabby Apple store by January 28, 2010 you can take an additional 20% off your purchase by using the coupon code: winter20off. Four days leftttttt!

Well, now that I’m done rambling about what had happened, I suppose I should talk about the dress a little bit!

When I opened the packaging  which was presented in bright colorful tissue paper. The fit of the dress mentioned on their website that if you’re a size small regularly, than to size down as it’s a big make. I did so, and it was a good fit! I loved the cinched sides of the dress and the length – it’s perfect to wear in the summer, or in the fall/winter with some leggings and a cute sweater. I can’t wait to wear this number to work! It’s cute, no? Go over and check out what other adorable things Shabby Apple has to offer!

A Late Menu

Is there anything that you are afraid to cook? For instance, making homemade spaghetti sauce, or cooking a a roast chicken with stuffing, and all the fix’ins doesn’t bother me in the least. But trying to put together a pot of soup I am so lost. So lost in fact I don’t even know where to begin. What if I wanted noodles in my soup? How do I time it all? Does anyone have any soup recipes? I’m thinking of making my very own chicken noodle soup. Chicken, carrots, celery, noodles, maybe a bit of rice (does mushrooms go well with chicken noodle?).  I need soup help.

I’m working a bit backwards this week. I’m telling you my weekly menu plan that has already been eaten this week. As you may or may not have noticed, I also updated the recipe section of my website to flow with this post.

Enjoy! I certainly did ;)

Monday: Chicken Pad Thai — I’ve usually make enough for lunch the next day, but lately the left overs haven’t tasted amazing. In fact, they used to taste even better than the day before. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. Nothing has changed with my servings or recipe!
Tuesday: Chicken Ceasar Salad Sandwich — this also changed a bit too. Am I getting to be a bad cook with age? What’s going on here! I forgive the fact that I haven’t made this in over a year, so maybe that’s why it tasted a bit different. Not a bad different, but just enough that I noticed it wasn’t the same. Maybe it was the dressing itself. It had pepper bits in it, I think. I was also thinking ahead on Tuesday, since I made cubed chicken breasts for the sandwiches, and knew I was having quiche the next day — I chopped up all veg for the next day, and even cooked an extra chicken breast. So when I got home from the gym on Wednesday everything was already prepped! I must remember to do this more often.
Wednesday: Quiche. It was my first time making quiche for the two of us. Pretty delicious I may add. I didn’t add a crust, or put onions in with it (because those are hurl-worthy). I’ll definitely be making this one again and adding it to the top of my favorites. I love that you can basically add whatever you like to a quiche. Wish I had a pinch of nutmeg to add though. Apparently that makes it taste better, as my Mom claims.
Thursday: PASTA… just with some cheese and sauce.
Friday: Mashed potatoes, carrots, asparagus and pork chops on the grill — easy but yummy supper.

This weekend we can finally take Alfie outside since his second set of shots have “kicked in”, and his little body is immune to some things. We can’t bring him around other dogs until his final and 3rd set, so we’re just going to walk him around the block and hopefully get him tired out, because boy that little guy has a ton of energy!

Bye!

To my friend.

I put off writing about the Haiti earthquake, because I did not know what to really write about. You just don’t know how much you will be affected until you know someone.

But as of tonight, it hits home with me, and I had to just write something. Now I too, lost a loved one as I found out through the modern grapevine which is now facebook.

My first job in Ontario was at an internet company. I didn’t last there very long but I made such a great number of friends, including a fellow Newfoundlander. He stayed with the company a bit longer than I did and ended up leaving and finding a job with the United Nations.

I hate the regret that I have. I haven’t spoken to him since I left my job. I just e-stalked him on Facebook whenever he updated photos of his where abouts.  He too, was home in Newfoundland during Christmas and just headed back to Haiti in early January.

I’ve been exhausted all this week with waking up all hours of the night to let my puppy use the bathroom, and once I found out about James I shed a few tears for surprisingly a lot longer than I thought I would. You will be sorely missed, my friend. James Coates, you were a great man. May you finally be flown home and rest in peace.jameswcoates
