Running the distance

I took the day off blogging yesterday. I was feeling so sluggish, tired and slow all weekend. Thankfully today I’m peppy, bright eyed and bushy tailed :)

Saturday and Sunday was the last huge redemption day for Shoppers Optimum points before they change up their points system. If you redeem 75,000 you’d normally get $150 stuff for free, but on bonus redemption days you get $200 worth! So Saturday night we stocked up and were scoping out the Shoppers for a good hour and a half before checking out in the cash. Effective July 1st the Optimum points will no longer be valued as high which is a shame. I think 95,000 points will now be something like $170. Don’t quote me on that. The change doesn’t’ bother me that much as I rarely shop at Shoppers (the prices are high) and this was the first time I ever redeemed my points since I signed up for the optimum card in the earl 90’s when I wasn’t even in high school yet. I remember when the points system first came into play. Maybe I’m dating myself and I should stop talking….

So, I haven’t run in 8 days. I ran into my “coach” which is the girl who developed the Learn To Run program at our gym. The gym is in the same building as where I work, so I see a lot of people from our running group on a regular basis. Today I ran into one of the speedier women and also our coach and we talked about training for a 10k and even a half marathon.

My personal goal was to complete a 10k and then go from there. My running buddy is thinking ahead, and  wants to do a half marathon. I’m definitely on board with that once I complete a 10k, but I don’t know if I’ll want to do a a half this season. Our training group is getting together again only on Thursdays now (it used to be Tuesday, Thursday & Saturdays) which is perfectly fine with me — as long as I have a bit of coaching and a group to run with, the rest of the days I can get my butt in gear and run on my own (doubtful) or with my running buddy.

I’m super excited. I think I’m going to try and run tomorrow as I don’t want to lose the endurance that I built up over the last few months.

Off topic, but has anyone seen the movie Blood Diamond? Such an amazing incredible film. I can’t stop talking about it.

Check back tomorrow because I have a giveaway for you all!

OOTWW

I was too lazy to take a photo of my outfit on Monday this work week but pretend that you saw me wearing something other than shorts. Which is entirely true, I wore leggings with a long cardigan to work then.

So here’s Tuesday til Friday. I went shopping at lunch yesterday which is why there are two photos of me on Friday. Had to sport the new scarf :) Post soon about my purchases maybe?

On Friday I had a bunch of accessories on  and even wore a necklace (rare)! Check out the key necklace that I bought from Etsy. Want one?

Work week clothing was very monochromatic this week. Very boring browns and whites, and unintentional. I liked my outfit a lot on Friday! Next week will be colorful.

Find out what I wore on Tuesday | Wednesday | Thursday: BR Cardigan, Abercrombie tank, Mexx capris, Aldo flats, White Fossil Stella watch. | Friday: Old navy top, Mexx scarf, Mexx belt, GAP pants, BR purse, cheapy sunnies, Black Fossil Stella watch, and some brown’s flats.

Also had to attach my Banana Republic clutch that I carried on Friday. Beauty right? That’s for you running buddy!

Have a good morning!! I think I’ll take a nap later.

Quick and painless cleaning tips (#1)

After a while of collecting some useful tips and tricks on how to clean certain areas of your house, I have collaborated a few of my own that I have gathered off the interwebs.Sorry I don’t remember where I read everything and apologize that I haven’t credited the authors.

Vinegar seems to do most of the trick, so buy in bulk!

Sinks/Showers:

  • Use a vinegar soaked rag to remove hard water stains from your shower head, faucets and even stainless steel appliances.
  • Use a damp dryer sheet to remove soap scum from shower doors and walls. Not only does it remove this unsightly film, but it leaves the room smelling clean and fresh.
  • Use Borax for removing hard water stains. Just sprinkle some onto the offending area, let sit for a few minutes, and wipe with a damp sponge.

Isn’t our shower nice? So spa-like. We just go the tiles re-done, after a really long sink + bath tub faucet leak. Pretty.

Toilets:

  • Drop a couple of denture cleaning tablets in and let them fizz for a while.
  • Pour two cups of vinegar into the bowl and letting it sit for an hour, scrubbing should be minimal. If you have hard water stains from the sides of the bowl, try filling the bowl with vinegar and leaving it to sit over night.

Drains/Pipes:

  • Pour one part baking soda followed by one part vinegar down the drain, let stand for one minute, then rinse to clean out the pipes.

OTHER:

  • Add one part vinegar and one part water to a spray bottle and spray down mold or mildew, then just scrub it away with a textured sponge or rag and rinse it clean.

Always keep your old toothbrushes on hand, they’re perfect for getting in the little crevices behind the faucets and in the corners of the floor, where the dirt can hide!
