Fitness Recap: Climbing 5.11c’s

I pluralize that like I’ve climbed more than one 5.11c last week. Don’t let my over-exaggeration fool you, only one was on sighted last week but I’m still pretty stoked about it.

Have to be honest, it’s hard getting back into workout out after two weeks of relaxing with family visitors, eating all the food, and having fun. Not that working out isn’t fun, because climbing, bouldeirng, and yoga is definitely exciting to me. But you know how it is.

I worked out twice last week. At least climbing/bouldering was incorporated into those two workouts along with 75 minutes of a yin yoga class, where the instructor came over to me in the most jam-packed yoga class I’ve ever been in, asking me if I was in pain. No ma’am, I’m not in pain — I’m simply inflexible in my entire right side of my body, workin’ on it.

511cSneaky Ellen taking pictures of me climbing the 5.11c. I’m talking about this constantly in my blog post, because I’m super happy I climbed it. My legs were doing the sewing machine bobbing up and down, because I seriously thought I was going to pop off the route at any moment. It was crimpy 3/4 of the way, definitely my style. However, in the picture above I’m stemming on crimps. I’m terrified of stemming, simply because I feel that if I fall unexpectedly, I’ll scrape my entire face off the wall. I don’t know, it’s obviously a mental thing, but I need to continue climbing those sorts of routes to get over it. It’s not happening quick enough for me.

Fitness Recap: Happy Canada Day

Wait, that’s not right.

Much better. Canadian, and the Newfoundland flag!

I miss home, but I’ll be back in no time. Hope everyone has an awesome Canada Day! Let me know what you’re doing, so I can live vicariously through you.

Onto the fitness recaps from last week:

Monday June 23: 30 minute lane swim

Tuesday June 24: 75 minutes of yin yoga & 1 hour bouldering

Wednesday June 25: Off

Thursday June 26: Off

Friday June 27: 4.23 mile treadmill run

Saturday June 28: Off

Sunday June 29: 2 hours of bouldering and did another V4!

Just a short and sweet recap today—my second sister-in-law (The Guy’s other sister) arrives today! Tomorrow, all 3 of us girls are getting our hair done and heading to the outlet mall to get some deals. Shauna and I went earlier last week and I scored some pretty sweet J.Crew flats for under $20. Shows how much they’re worth, hey? hah!Standford Faculty Club

HAPPY CANADA DAY, CANADIANS! I took my sister-in-law to a Canadian Ex-Pat event at Stanford Faculty Club a few nights ago. It was so fun. I was invited by an old colleague who still lives and works in Canada, she was down here for said event. How crazy right? Felt like home, when I ran into her and gave her a big ol’ hug.

More info on everything we’re doing when they all head back to Canada :( As I mentioned, trying not to spend too much time on the computer while they’re here.

CrossFit Style Workout

I haven’t joined CrossFit and it’s really close by. I cannot get over the cost compared to Ontario. It’s more than double. I love the CrossFit atmosphere and I miss it tremendously. As much as I’d love to join, to meet new friends — I just can’t take that expense on right now, especially since we have a free gym in our complex. Instead, I’ve been making up my own CrossFit style workouts: 20 minute arm workout // Speedy treadmill workout // 30 minute treadmill workout. Sorta.

My arms were still a little sore from the 20 minute arm workout I did the other day, but I put together this workout, not knowing how long it would take me. It’s been months since I did an intense workout like this.

CrossFit Style Workout, CrossFit, workout at home, You better believe I scratched out 150 squats and put it down to 100. Ain’t no way I would’ve liked that.

Workout faceI managed to complete it in 34 minutes. Can you beat my time? Do the workout and post your times in the comments!

How are you staying fit today?
I’m thinking of doing a 45 minute treadmill run. I don’t care how many miles/kilometers I do, I want to build up my running endurance.

How many days in a week do you workout?
Right now I only go 3-4x/week. Yikes.

What is your favourite type of way to workout? Cardio? Weights? Abs? A mixture of it all?
I really enjoy a mixture of weights, cardio and gymnastics. I love confusing my body and never plateauing. That’s why I love CrossFit.

What is your most hated of exercises?
I really disliked wall balls at CrossFit.
