My CrossFit Journal (Year 1, week 24)

The short:

  • Yoga x2
  • Run x2
  • CrossFit x1

year 1, week 24, day one

I went to Yoga again, but this time I went solo. I don’t remember much of the class, but I do remember not liking the instructor as much as another woman who does the class later on in the week. It’s funny how it works out that way…

year 1, week 24, day two

4.25km run by my self — I had planned on going for 6km but I ended up turning around early. I thought I had only ran 3k, but when I mapped it out it was 4.25k! The sweat was pourin’ off me, it was super hot that weekend.

Sorry. That photo is probably nasty. Either way, I wanted to break up the texty blog post with some photos of my SWEAT. lol

year 1, week 24, day three

Get out of town.

6:30pm CrossFit class followed by an 8:00pm 6km run with my co-worker. Moses. I was feeling it on the run, that’s for sure. I even let out huge sighs and “are we there yet?”‘s hahaha!

1 Snatch

1 Snatch Press
1 Overhead Squat

That was the prescribed workout above , a 20 minute time limit. You do 1, every minute on the minute. Instead I did 20 snatch press to overhead squats, and I did 60lbs for the full duration!

year 1, week 24, day four

I think this is the one where I mentioned that I nearly got kicked out of yoga (for laughing). Not to worry, a blog post will be coming up soon about that.

I found this particular class very useless. I felt like I didn’t workout, just got a few minor stretches in. lol Again, total blog post all about this class coming up.

year 1, week 24, day five

Okay this doesn’t really count as working out but I wanted to include it in my roundup.

Steph and I went to the local climbing gym because I knew there was going to be a bouldering competition happening that evening. “Summer Sweat Fest” sponsored by MEC (Mountain Equipment Co-Op). It was so great seeing my “old buddies” again. I haven’t really climbed hard since February, and then just going in there for an evening and watching everyone work the boulder problems, definitely made me want to get back into it again!

Question about Yoga…

Okay. I really love yoga. I went three times already: Monday, Thursday and now today.

One thing that I have a question about while at Yoga. How do you keep your hands/palms from slipping on the yoga mat? My hands are seriously dry, should I moisturize before I go? I don’t want to be slipping even more. I find that I slip very slowly outwards, when doing the downward dog.

I also cannot get over the price difference of yoga mats. $68 for one at Lululemon. Ya kiddin’ me?? I want to spend no more than five bucks on one, haha.

Yoga fan, right here!

I’m forever changing up my routine with working out.

Sometimes I need a break from CrossFit. Last week I didn’t go at all. Now this week I’m going to the local YMCA with my co-worker. I’m not planning on having two “gym” memberships because CrossFit is running at about $100/month so adding onto that seems a bit excessive right now. I grabbed a free two week pass on the Y’s website and off I went to Yoga last night for the first time in a few years, I’ve done it a handful of times in the past but didn’t really enjoy it.

I’m planning to go back a lot during these next two weeks. But I’m not interested in paying $60/month to attend the YMCA. I think the reason I enjoyed it so much yesterday, was because the instructor kept telling us basic, intermediate and advanced moves. Then walking around the class to fix the moves. I also enjoyed it because I felt stronger and could do more intermediate things. For instance, from the downward dog into the plank position and down into a pushup with your elbows tucked into the ribs. But not have your body touching. I felt strong!

I really wanted to do this tree (?) pose. I remember doing that in a few other classes before.

We also did a few different Warrior poses. I felt it was a bit difficult to keep my hips open. It definitely worked my butt, and hamstrings to keep my leg straight. You betcha my legs were quivering by the end of the pose.

I’m not sore anywhere yet. I usually get DOMS (Delayed onset muscle soreness), so I’m wondering if/how sore I’ll be tomorrow. My triceps feel like I’ve done something different. That’s a good sign…

I’m now looking into Yoga classes around my area that aren’t $10/class. I think I’m hooked, and maybe I can incorporate it into a morning routine. Because going to CrossFit in the morning is so out of the question. Going that hard, that early when I’m already not a morning person? Nuh uh.

Do you go to Yoga? How often?
