MAC’s blue lip pencil?!

MAC Vibe Tribe Collection is inspired by art, outdoor music festivals and the colours of the desert yet definitely has caused some controversy with media as it is sort of clear it’s tribal inspired.

As soon as I opened the MAC Vibe Tribe patent lip pencil in desert evening I thought I would never wear such an odd colour. What the heck was that blue colour to be used for?

MAC-Tribe-LipMAC Patentpolish Lip Pencil in Desert Evening.

You have to admit, it almost looks bizarre putting a hypothermia looking colour onto the lips. But guess what? It’s not too bad at all and went on almost like a clear gloss. If you’re familiar with the Lancôme Juicy Shakers (see my review), you’ll know that they too came out with a blue lip colour.

But blue is a naturally brightening colour, and it will make your teeth appear whiter than what they are. Right? It’s what everyone loves in a cool-toned red lipstick, the brightening of the teeth. Okay, I know what you guys all came here for — the swatches and to see what it actually looks like on.

First, the swatch onto the back of my hand:MAC-Tribe-Lip-swatch

Doesn’t look too bad on, either right? The lip pencil could easily be layered over top of a lipstick as well.

MAC-Vibe-TribeIt’s pretty wearable and easy to use as simply a lipgloss to throw in your purse and go. Especially since it’s in the middle of the hot-hot-heat and I personally don’t want to be worrying about any lipstick wearing off or smearing in this warm weather. Lipgloss is what I gravitate towards around this time of the year!

Would you ever sport the blue lip colour? If you like it, do you think you’ll be purchasing it?

I’ve never tried a MAC lipstick. Until now.

MAC-Header

MAC-and-boxed-waterI know. What’s with me? I haven’t tried MAC lipsticks before! I know they’re one of the top tier lipsticks out there, and everyone has tried them. Yet, I have not. Until now!

The two makeup brands that I started using when I first got into makeup around 10 years ago was Clinique, and MAC Cosmetics. I still have a huge freezer-bag full of MAC empties to back-2-MAC. I haven’t gone into the store to pick out a lipstick, because quite frankly… I’m a little overwhelmed on what I should pick out! There are so many good choices, and after all this time I still have no idea what I would pick out. Maybe after writing up this blog post I should pack up that huge ol’ bag and bring it back and get a few lipsticks.

Do you love MAC lipsticks? If you do, what are some of your suggestions? I’m not sure if I want to go bold (an orange-red), or include some easy to wear nude colours. I guess I could do both considering I could get a few with my empties.

MAC-LipsLeft to right: MAC Pressed and Ready (lustre), MAC By Special Order (amplified), MAC Huggable Lipcolour in Cantonese Carnation, and MAC Tendertalk Lip Balm in Side Dish.

MAC-swatchesLeft to right swatches on the back of my hand: Tendertalk Lip Balm in Side Dish, Huggable Lipcolour in Cantonese Carnation, Pressed and Ready, By Special Order, and the final one on the right you’ll have to wait til Friday to find out that fun colour! I’m surprised how light the two on the left swatched. But I’m pretty happy with it considering those swatches are definitely the colours I’d reach for.

I think the only reason why I haven’t chosen a MAC lipstick to purchase or Back-2-MAC is that the selection is enormous and I’m almost overwhelmed on what to choose. There are so many great options.

How they look on my lips/skintone.

MAC-Pressed-and-readyMAC Pressed and Ready (lustre). This would be perfect layered under a nice pink-toned gloss to give it some more colour. I really don’t like it on its own.

MAC-By-Special-OrderMAC By Special Order (amplified). Definitely a colour I’m not normally drawn to, but pretty nice for a date-night!

MAC-CantoneseMAC Huggable Lipcolour in Cantonese Carnation. As it says online it definitely has a feather-light finish. Something easy to pop in your purse and cart along with you for easy touch-ups. I love how easy it is. I think you can tell by my smirk, that this one is one of my favourites.

MAC-Side-dishMAC Tendertalk Lip Balm in Side Dish. This is apparently a smart lip conditioner that creates your own personalized tiny based on your body chemistry (available in 5 shades). I have to say, Tendertalk reminds me of the Tendertone lip balms they had in jars back in the early 2000’s. Anyone remember those? They smelled so yummy. I had a bright red one that I didn’t wear often but I loved it when I did.

Which one is your favourite on me? :)

MAC Cosmetics | Soft Serve Eyeshadows

MAC-Soft-ServeIn May MAC Cosmetics launched the limited edition Soft Serve collection which are $22 cream eyeshadows available in 12 colours, that dries down to a powder finish. I feel like the two MAC Soft Serve eyeshadows I have for review mimic the two pantone colours of the year for 2016. Don’t you think? The entire collection is completely wearable pastel-ice cream type of shades. Mmm!

They have such a bouncy/spongy texture to it that is easily applied with your finger tips. Swipe on, and go! And in a ton of fun colours for the summer time. The texture is similar texture to the Dior Fusion Mono’s (seen here) if you are familiar with that. The texture is gorgeous and glides onto the eyelid seamlessly. I’ve only worn them on their own, or together, never mixed with a powdered shadow to see how they perform that way. Anyone else try to use them with other shadows?

You’ll notice that the packaging is quite similar to their paint-pots (I used to own one of the nude-coloured ones, but I actually prefer MAC paints over their paint pots!).

MAC-Soft-Serve-ShadowLeft-right: Girls, Girls!, Big Bad Blue.

MAC-soft-serve-swatchesThere are two types of finishes from the 12 colours they released, a satin and a pearl. The two colours I received for review are satin finish. When you apply the shadows, they are a little more sheer than a regular shadow would be, but nothing a little buildable coverage can’t fix. They build easily and when you apply a primer underneath they’re set for the day. However, I did go without a primer once and it lasted a couple of hours before fading away.

What are your thoughts on the shadows? If you know the type of makeup look I tend to go for (natural, dewy and not powdery at all) you know that I’m definitely all about these creamy-like shadows. So nice!
