11.11

remembrance-poppyI think the only donations I make throughout the year are right after Halloween when I see the boys and girls outside box stores, selling poppies. I know that’s pretty bad of me. But I cannot pass these kids, without buying at least one from them. Are you wearing your remembrance poppy today? I didn’t know anyone related to me who was in either of the World Wars, but I think I have a soft spot for the poppy as I used to work in the veteran’s old age home while I was working in Housekeeping at the local hospitals back home, and made some friends there :)

So I have the day off today. Usually we have a professional development day at work on November 11 as all banks and financial institutions are closed. But I’m home, and going to put on some winter tires and rims this afternoon with a reputable mechanic that I was recommended by my Boyfriend. Wish me luck! Hope the credit card doesn’t bounce :/

2 down … how many to go?

Remember when I panicking back in October about not getting started on my Christmas shopping? That day I ended up buying almost all of the Irish boys their gifts. Funny how the brain gets on that right away. I wanted to show you what I bought for the two little ones. It’s a really neat website  based out of California designed by two father’s, where you can personalize a few things for loved ones.

I bought these two books and personalized them from Auntie Nancy, and I got these Firetruck place mats for them as well. I think they’ll be excited even if they’re just two and three years old, right? Seeing your name on something is that exciting at that age am I right? I have no idea. I haven’t been around kids in a few years :(  Frecklebox (cute name) is pretty reasonably priced too. Especially having it shipped up from the states. I’m sure they’ll like it. Boys like trucks and books before bed. Happy day for all.

Speaking of happy days for all. I’m a bit disappointed that I wasn’t able to pick up my favorite HONEY CRISP apples at the grocery store the other night. I wasn’t about to pay $2.49/lb for apples that looked poked and bruised, so I opted to go to Sobeys instead of my regular loblaw’s grocery store just a few minutes walk from our apartment. Sobey’s had the honey crisp’s on for $1.99/lb which sounded much more reasonable. Except for the fact that all of the other apples were on a huge discount sale for $0.45/lb!! I decided to stray away from the juicy crunchy favorite of ours and picked up a dozen royal gala’s instead. Why are the favorite things in life so much more expensive than the other ones. It was 4x as expensive as all the others! Bummer. :(

Hope you all have a good Tuesday!

Organization of the desk calendar

october-2009-calendarAnyone who lives in South Western Ontario can vouch for me that yesterday was extremely beautiful outside, correct? It was 18ºC out there!! People were wearing tank tops and shorts. Of course we had to go out and enjoy the last bit of weather before the weather turns.

So, what does your month end calendar look like?

All my favorite people’s birthday are in October. Boyfriends, close friends and loved ones. I wonder if that means something? Do I flock towards them subconsciously?

Get this:

Boyfriend’s birthday: October 4
Best friend #1 birthday: October 22
Best friend #2 birthday: October 27
Nephew: October 31

That’s gotta mean something. haha. I always found that pretty interesting.

I hate messing up my calendar. I get paid on Friday’s, the purple $ sign you see scratched out was when I obviously couldn’t do my math right and got confused drawing every second Friday off as a pay day. Ugh. So I had to scratch it out. Unfortunately I do not get paid three times in October. Whatevs. It’ll be more exciting getting paid 3x a month come JANUARRRRRY.

November is looking pretty similar though too.

Annnnyway, onto more organizing for the week. Here’s my menu plan. I really need to get rid of a lot of things in our freezer (it’s the type that’s attached to the refrigerator, so it’s JAM.PACKED with pork chops and other frozen stuff that was on sale.)

Monday: Macaroni and Cheese
Tuesday: Chicken, mashed potatoes, and carrots (we bought a 10lb bag of potatoes!!)
Wednesday: Pork tenderloin marinade (without the pork tenderloin, just reg. boneless chops), with roasted potatoes, and broccoli
Thursday: Chicken penne alla vodka (Haven’t made this in aaaages. It’s so high in fat. Any recommendations for a replacement of Whipping Cream? I’m also going to replace the penne pasta with large shell pasta that was something likr $0.75 for a huge monster bag)
Friday: Frozen pizza (also on sale. We have three in the freezer)
Saturday: Honey garlic pork stir fry. (I haven’t had honey garlic on anything but chicken before, so hopefully this will be edible.)

Most of these meals can be found on my recipe page. I also plan on making jube-jube cake this week. MMMM. My Mom’s (grandmas?) old recipe. I haven’t had it in years. But it’s super easy to make. I’m stoked!
