Skincare routine

My skin has had a rough go of it for the past number of weeks and I’m careful now what I use on my face. In January I had a product that made my eyes swell up and my skin dry out so much it looked wrinkly and cracked. While I am more prone to a dryer skin in the winter and then dry-normal in the summer. I almost always feel the need to moisturize, especially my scaly man hands. I’ve been trying to figure out which products are fit for me, and which products I’m weeding out of my facial cleansing routine. Thus the title of this post my skincare routine at the moment.

Shown in order, here are the products I use on my face on a daily basis.

When I get up in the morning I wash my face with a sample sized Philosophy Purity cleanser. Since it’s almost out, next up to the podium will be the the Bioderma Solution. Purity is truly a great cleanser for my skin type, and I am definitely going to be purchasing the large bottle. I also use this in the evening when I want to remove my makeup. It doesn’t irritate my eyes and of course I use it twice in the evenings. Once to get all the makeup off, and another to actually cleanse the skin.

On days where I feel like I need to scrub my face a little more I break out my Sibu Balancing Facial Cleanser. The exfoliating beads aren’t as harsh as some exfoliators I’ve used in the past, so you can really use this one on a daily basis. I’ve used it for a week straight when I first got it, and I didn’t have any negative reaction to it. I reviewed the Sibu daytime facial cream a few months ago, and while it does have a similar smell, it’s not as strong as the moisturizing lotion. In fact, I like the cleansers scent much more. It has more of an orange scent to it which I find appealing. I recommend you exfoliate your face and body on a weekly basis to get all the dry, dead skin cells off your body. You’re left with a very subtle smooth skin. Plus, when you moisturize you feel so smooth all over. I’m a huge fan of exfoliating.

After cleansing my face I always apply my eye cream as my under eyes get cakey and dry looking if I don’t. Right now I’m obsessed with the Bobbi Brown Extra Eye Repair Cream. I also have the hydrating eye cream by Bobbi, which is more of a lighter weight which is perfect for day time. The extra eye repair is a nice thick consistency and is amazing to keep that area moisturized, especially at night.

Next on goes the facial moisturizer. Currently I’m using a light weight facial moisturizer by Bioderma Hydrabio Light Cream and while it’s great for my sensitive dry skin. I don’t feel like it’s worth the money to go out and buy again. I didn’t pay the $48 for this at Shoppers Drug Mart, I actually won it on a Twitter beauty basket giveaway from a Twitter party (follow me!)

This next step is only if my skin is feeling incredibly out of whack or super dry and tight after cleansing my skin. I’d only use these serums or oils at night and apply around the eyes or places I feel dry. Which are usually my chin, cheeks and eye area.

Left to right: Origins A Perfect World which smells terrific since it has White Tea in it. Though it’s a little heavy silicon feel to it. But sometimes my skin needs and likes it. Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery is probably my favorite by far. I’ve gone through 3 sample sizes and have yet to fork over the money for the full sized. SkinCeuticals Hydrating B5 Gel is pretty good. I’m using this one right now, it’s thicker (still liquid unlike Origins) consistency than Kiehl’s. The last one is pure Vitamin E oil, which was the only product that truly healed my dry cracked sore skin from when it was inflamed and dry. It was very messy, sticky, and oily on my face. A little goes a long way with this.

Note: Only use one of these products at a time! lol Don’t change them up either from evening to evening. Finished one sample and then headed to the other. All of these serums are amazing but incredibly expensive.

On my “night table” which is actually a set of dresser drawers, I keep a variation of lip balms and hand creams. The one’s I gravitate more towards is the impeccable Avene Cold Cream lip balm, and the Philosophy Somebody hand cream. All moisturizes, and cleansed for a good nights sleep.

That concludes my daily skin care routine! In February my skin has been pretty much back to normal. I think the simplicity of everything helped a lot. Meaning not wearing tons of makeup, cleansing my face with good quality products. I know there was a ton of product shown, but the only ones I use on a day-to-day basis are the one’s in the first photo.

Hope this was helpful, and if you have any questions of comments leave them below!

I was not compensated for this post, but the Sibu facial cleanser was provided by Sibu.

New Mortgage?

Are you looking for a new home? Or are you refinancing your existing home to help pay off your debt sooner? Here some valuable advice to keep in mind.

Get pre-approved. If you’re shopping for a new home, make sure to get pre-approved for a mortgage first. This will help you narrow down your search to just the houses within your price range and give you the upper hand when you are negotiating a closing. While you’re waiting for your application to clear, you can do some proactive research on mortgage rates in Canada with ratesupermarket.ca.

Clean up your credit. Put more toward credit card debt to decrease your ratio of debt to income. Also, if you haven’t taken a look at your credit report lately, it is important to do so. It will help you spot discrepancies that could decrease your purchasing power when you are ready to buy a new home.

Put more money into the down payment. Compare the total cost of your home with the minimum down payment to the total cost with the maximum down payment. If you have the ability to pay more upfront, it could save you thousands of dollars and reduce the amount of time that you have to carry the mortgage.

Don’t try to compare apples and oranges. Different lending programs offer different contract terms, so it can be frustrating to try to make a comparison. You can get an idea of typical mortgage rates with ratesupermarket.ca, and you can also try to figure out how much your home will cost over the term of each mortgage scenario and compare bottom lines to get a clear picture.

Chevrolet Cruze review

As you all know, for the last week I’ve been driving around and reviewing the 2012 Chevrolet Cruze LT Turbo in the fun Crystal Red color.

One of the first things I noticed when investigating the car’s features was that it had Satellite Radio for us to tune into! As I mentioned before I haven’t stopped listening to the Satellite XM radio.

I’ve been loving three stations and have been switching between them. Note that the satellite radio isn’t free and has a fee for subscribing to it. I’m not sure how much it would cost if you’d like to have it for your car, but it was a nice feature to have in the press car.You can see all of the buttons on the steering wheel here. I primarily used just the volume control. The steering wheel is quite lightweight meaning that it’s not a sporty hard-to-turn wheel. It was a bit difficult to get used to since I do quite a bit of highway driving and I had to get used to trying to keep the car straight. Any little movement with the wheel and the car would steer in that direction.

The car has a lot of neat bell’s and whistles. For instance, when you turn the ignition off and take the keys out, the music continues to play. Even if the passenger doors open. Only when the driver’s side door open, does the music stop. Often times before work I sat in the car listening to the music. To get comfortable driving the car for the week I had to adjust the driver’s seat. Adjusting and tilting the seat is fine, but the lumbar handle is almost like you’re reaching to the back seat to grab someones feet. It feels further back than it should. I couldn’t find it for the first few days. I also tested out the back seat to see how well adults could fit back there. It wasn’t the most roomiest but it was comfortable for me and I’m at 5’6″.

One thing I was really a fan of in this car was that there wasn’t any getting used to the blind spots. I felt like nothing was blocking my way at all when I looked over my shoulder to change lanes. With other cars I’ve taken a few days or even weeks to get used to the blind spots. Plus one for Chevrolet on that one!

I have to drive about 15km to work every day. Some days I take the highway and other days I take the typical stop and go traffic. While I’ve only got the car for a week I feel like it’s pretty decent on gas on both scenarios. On the website the fuel consumption for the 2011 model is 5.5L per 100km. I used a total of about 3/4 of a tank in the week and I did a significant amount of driving. I put around 350km’s on it.

I noticed that you can personalize what you see on the dash board when you twist this lever.Shown above are most of the options to choose from.

I’m used to driving fairly medium to large sized cars. The car I own now is similar in size to the Cruze, and my parent’s car is a nice big boat. So I feel like the Cruze is a modern mid-sized vehicle fit for a family of four. Or in my case, a family of two.

Little things on this car excite me. I love having a clean and clear windshield. I’m used to spraying the wash up onto the windshield only to have it wipe 2-3 times and leaving dry streak marks left from the wipers. Which can be an annoyance while you’re driving and sometimes would need to re-wash it. Not on this car though! It you just squirt the wash gently it’ll only use your wipers once. If your windshield needs a crazy thorough cleaning and you hold the wash wand for longer, it’ll wipe more times than just once.

Things I enjoy about the Chevrolet Cruze:

  • The soft suspension makes for a comfortable ride since it cushions the bumps that may be in the road.
  • It was surprisingly quiet on the road. Even though it had winter tires on.
  • Gets up to speed on the on-ramps to highways quickly.
  • Satellite radio! Usually I’d listen to the radio and rarely my CDs that I always have in the car. But this past week I’ve been rocking out to the satellite radio stations. So much better selection!
  • On-Star services (though it did lead me astray once).
  • Comfortable seating and steering wheel.
  • Blue tooth to make hands free phone calls.
  • USB ports to plug in your cell phone charger or even iPod to listen to music if you wanted.

Things I’d like to see changed:

  • I’d like to see illuminated either cup holders or in the key fob area where you can put spare change (see photo above). I park in an underground parking lot and I sometime fumbled to find the key when it’s dark out.
  • Wish it had more of an arm rest for the driver. I like to drive mostly with my left hand and my right hand still on the wheel but have my elbow resting comfortably on something. There was an armrest, but it would’ve been more comfortable if it were longer.
  • The lumbar adjustment is awkwardly too far back.

Thanks again to GM Canada for letting me drive and review the Chevrolet Cruze for the week, it’s been fun. Let’s do it again sometime soon!
