July’s TopBox

I’ll try my best to update you guys on how I’m liking my monthly boxes, if I used the products and what I think of it. Sometimes I’m lazy and just flick the samples that I receive, in a pile and let them accumulate until I get sick of seeing them and either try them out, or give them away. I know… isn’t that completely pointless?

Perhaps doing these recaps will help me actually try out more products, instead of just subscribing and hoarding all these samples.

Each month when I get either my TopBox, GlossyBox, or (my favorite) Glymm box, I do an unveiling video. You get to see my true reaction to the products. I’ve been subscribed to these boxes for over a year now. July marks the 1 year mark for me subscribing to Glymm!

So first up to the plate is my July Topbox.

Here is July’s TopBox shown above.

China Glaze nail polish: I’m not one to go for bright colors, especially for my finger nails. I usually reserve the bold brights for my toes in the summer. I couldn’t resist trying this neon pink polish on my fingers for the summer. Neon polish tends to dry to a matte finish, but that is easily fixable with a high gloss top coat. The only issue I have with China Glaze nail polish is that it seems to chip much quicker than any other nail polish I’ve tried. But they have the most beautiful array of colors to choose from. Right now on my toes I have a peachy neon color that is just so darling, especially with a tan.

Nu·Me Hydrating Shampoo: I’m never one to turn away from shampoos, especially hydrating one’s. I love to rotate shampoos in the shower, so my hair doesn’t get used to one particular kind. This one is great, since my hair is quite dry at the ends, and always have been. Love giving it an extra little oomf with some products like this. I will not be purchasing the full sized version of this, because I do have a lot of samples to go through.

Pure + Simple Calming Cucumber Mask: I’m still not sure whether or not I am supposed to apply this mask and wash it off, or leave it on as if it were like a serum on my face. This clean, sleek packaging is great — plus it’s a nice sized sample and will definitely have 2 or 3 uses when I do use this product. It has a light green look to it, and feels like silk when rubbed on my skin. The scent of cucumber is so strong, but it’s such a fresh scent that I don’t mind it at all. It’s great!

Sampar Hydrating Moisturizer: This is a pretty high end moisturizer which I’ve yet to use. I’m planning on going to Ottawa within the next few weeks so I’m saving these samples until then. I know for sure that Glymm has Sampar in their shop. I’m excited to try this out.

Here is a video I did about the July’s TopBox:

Babysitting this summer?

Anyone that had a babysitting job during the summer, knows how much it takes to entertain kids — especially if it’s a full time position.

I know I’ve had my fair share of babysitting my cousins kids throughout the years and we’ve done all sorts of crafty things together. Well, here’s another great idea to bring along to babysit young girls. I got this Basic Nail Art Stamping Set by Konad from Nail Polish Canada. At first I thought it was a little juvenile for my liking, but once I started playing with it I thought it was nice and subtle. Especially doing a little design on the popular ring finger that everyone has been sporting lately.

The Konad Basic Kit allows you to easily and quickly stamp funky, pre-designed images onto your nails. This kit comes with a silver image plate, a mini nail polish, as well as the stamp and scraper. Instructions are super easy to follow.

Here are a few designs I played with on my nails:

P.S. I need a mani badly. I’m not the best at doing my own nails ;)

The kit retails for $17.00 CDN and available on the Nail Polish Canada website! Plus if you spend over $25 or more, you qualify for free shipping. Otherwise it’s five bucks — not bad!

Hair cut: Before & After

I went and got my hair cut today at my favorite (for now) salon. I’ve been growing my hair since last August, when I got a real good hair cut. Since January I’ve been babying my hair and have been trying not to use as much heat on it as I used to. This means putting away my hair straightener and trying to maneuver a hair brush and blow dryer to get the style I want. You can see what I put in my hair by reading my hair care routine, which needs to be updated.

Cut right off, in August.

In order to make my hair grow longer, I don’t go in for a regular trim every 6-8 weeks. I try and make it as long as 13-14 weeks.

My hair has grown quite a bit since then, and you can tell in one of my recent YouTube videos, how long its gotten. Forgive the blue/yellow-ness of the photo. I was feeling lazy and didn’t feel like editing it just for this post.

My ideal hair length is about two inches longer than it is now. There after, I plan on keeping it that length for a while and then probably doing some fun things with it. Like getting the courage to dye it again after my hair disaster back in early 2011. Don’t worry, that hair stylist and I broke up abruptly.

So here is my hair cut as of just about an hour ago. Before and After pictures. Always fun to see how much he trimmed off.

For my hair’s future, I came across the Box No. 216 website with all sorts of hair styles and dye jobs. I’ve saved this specific page on my e-mail and plan on bringing it into my hair stylist to replicate in the next year or so. Hey, I’m a slow mover… I think that’s fair after everything I went through with my poor hair.

I think the model has the same type of hair as I do, not too much hair but enough… either way, I really like the baby blonde hair at the ends, and not all over. A nice brown on top. Similar to what I have now. I definitely do not want these caramel highlights though. I wonder if I should bring those photos in too to tell him what I don’t want. Decisions.

My hair is serious business. I’m tellin’ ya. Nobody compares to my old hair stylist back home, Ron. He gave me some great hair throughout the years… some crazy colors, some beautiful layers.
