A healthy take on my snacks

Many people have nick-named me Candy Girl. So it’s no surprise to anyone, that I have a big ol’ sweet tooth.

I’m surprised I don’t have more cavities than I do. Surprisingly enough, since I just went to the dentist yesterday to get a check up. Everything’s good to go. Until next checkup! Yay free toothbrushes :)

In fact, here is my current candy stash. A wedding the Boyf & I went to while we were home, had a candy bar! Fill up your own Chinese-takeout box. You betchur bottom dollar I filled that baby right to the brim!

Steering away from the unhealthy snacks for a bit, it’s good to branch out and not always have bad sugars while sitting at a desk job 9-5. Three Works sent over some dried apple snacks for me to try out.

I didn’t hesitate at all. Mainly because one of my favorite fruits are apples. Honey Crisps to be exact. Plus, Three Works is a Canadian company, and I love supporting the locals!

I ended up getting an assortment of four different flavors. Plus, the small tins? The whole entire tin contains just 100 calories! Madness. I’d gobble that thing right up.

When I first opened the package, it was sealed up with one of those paper lids underneath but also in its own little baggie too! This company is taking extra care in their packaging, making sure the apple chips don’t get stale, I’m telling ya that right now.

Scrumptious.

First thoughts? It was quite light, and very crunchy.  As someone who used to enjoy crunching on ice cubes (I gave that up, ha ha) it was enjoyable.

These would be great sitting at my office at work, or of course incorporated into school lunches or what have you. I have the caramel one’s opened at work, and I’m definitely not sharing. The taste of caramel isn’t overpowering at all. Just the right amount, I’d say.

Quick tidbits on Apple Chips:

  • Gluten Free
  • GMO Free (no idea what that means)
  • Non-fried
  • Fat Free
  • Healthier than potato chips
  • They’re Canadian!

Three Works Apple Chips are sold in major retailers across Canada including Safeway, Loblaws, Shoppers Drug Mart and Longos.

Little peek of Newfoundland’s scenery

This was taken on King’s Road, in St. John’s. The same street as Moo Moo’s ice cream, for the not-so-locals ;)

Another photo of the same street, different angle. The houses in Newfoundland have always been very colorful. Some of them are completely outrageous colors. Purple houses with lime green trim and a yellow door. The colorful homes have been nick named “Jelly Bean houses”.

Local artists have done paintings showcasing the bright homes. It’s great.

Newfoundland doors. Again, King’s Road.

Cummings Street, St. John’s.

prescot street, St. John'sPrescot Street. You need one foot on the brake and one on the gas when at a stop-light on this street. Seriously lol.

My neighbor was drying some salted cod fish on their clothes line while I was home!

Beautiful St. John’s. That’s me and Alfie right there :)

Bought some treats at the Tilt House Bakery, in Portgual Cove. The person who opened this bakery was the old Auntie Crae’s baker, which shut down a few years ago!

Typical Newfoundland weather RDF/Rain Drizzle ‘n Fog.

Newfoundland is also very windy….

St. John’s Harbour

Our sweet pup, Alfie in the Battery! Yes, we brought him along. He got along quite well this trip. Wasn’t so much of a lunatic as he was last year. Getting calmer in his old age ;) He’ll be three next week!

The Battery, St. John’s.Alfie getting a glimpse of what Newfoundland’s all about :)

Another view of The Battery.

Hope you all enjoyed a little bit of my homeland!

What’s the furthest East you’ve been in Canada?

Have you ever visited Newfoundland?

Dragonette & Young Empire’s

I think I’m jet-lagged. I didn’t think it hit me. That was, until today.

I had a dental appointment at 11:45am this morning. I tweeted all the while I was there. It was just a check up and cleaning. The dental hygienist told me I had, and I quote “great hygiene” yet while she was digging under my gums with that painful needle-like scraper, blood was flying everywhere. An exaggeration of course. But I don’t think I’ve ever had a rough cleaning as I have today. My Boyf went two days prior for his cleaning and he’s always a big o’ baby with the mouth pain. But I definitely felt it with this new lady. Ouch!  I even turned my head away from her for a few times, to get away from it!

Does anyone elses mouth salivate more when they’re at the dentist? I swear mine does, just because I know I’m not allowed to swallow whenever I want. It’s all mind games, I’m tellin ya. Can I hold that suction tube thing for you, Miss Hygienist? I’ll let you know when it needs to be done. Thankyouverymuch.

My point of the blog post got off topic. Even though I didn’t introduce it yet. But I will now. While I was home in Newfoundland I saw Coca Cola tweet something about completing a sentence and winning tickets to see Dragonette in Kitchener, the day after we returned home. I answered correctly, and won two tickets to see them!

I gotta be honest. I had no idea who they were until I googled the song name for the answer on twitter. That was until I recognized some of the songs they sang, thanks to google. She kind of reminds me of my friend Tanya. But the boyf didn’t see it at all… lol Maybe it’s just the eye color.

and some pictures of the sound guy…

The all ages show was last night, and the Boyf & I thoroughly enjoyed it! Some of the songs she sang, I didn’t realize she was the one who sang them on the radio. lol #newbie

I Came To Say Hello
 — this was my Summer 2012 song. You know those feel-good songs that you just need to blast loud in your car with all the windows and sunroof down with your hair blowing all about? This was it! This song also reminds me of endless CrossFit box jumps. I laughed when she started singing it live! OMGAAGH I LUVE THIS! I immediately passed over my camera taking its video to the Boyf, while I started dancing!

Dragonette — Let It Go
.

There were a few bands opening for them, of course before Dragonette played. And what do you know? I recognized these dude’s too! LOL I love it when I know songs. A video that you too might know. Apparently the Boyf had never heard of this song before? Isn’t it on the radio? Her are the Young Empire’s singing their single White Doves (hear the full song on YouTube):
