Staying at the Fairmont, San Jose

Fairmont-HeaderTo finalize our San Jose staycation last month, we ended up staying overnight at the Fairmont in downtown San Jose. It was a real treat to stay in such an elegant hotel even if just for the one nighter. I’m pretty sure our hotel room was twice the square footage of our previous apartment in Waterloo. To say it was gigantic was an understatement. I’m pretty sure the photos I’m about to show you won’t do the hotel room any justice whatsoever.

When you first walked into the suite (I’ve never in my life even stayed in a suite before, so that was pretty wicked first of all) there was this huge L-shaped hallway leading into a living room with a few couches, a TV and a desk. Then to your left there were a set of sliding doors which leads of course, to no other than the bedroom with a king sized bed that looked miniature in this grand room. It was pure luxury. I raced to the bathroom to see how huge that was, considering everything else was on a grand scale. You betcha, that too was massive. A separate tub, a fantastic glass shower, his-and-her sinks, and a toilet tucked away behind a wall for even more privacy.

It’s too bad we weren’t at the hotel longer, because I could easily get used to that kind of space in a hotel room. If I were to guess, I could probably do 3 cartwheels (not that I would) in the room, no trouble. In a row!

Anyway let’s get into the photos — because I just can’t seem to talk about this hotel enough (don’t you just love it when hotels decorate in shades of gold? I feel like it’s that more ritzier).

California has not changed me

As you read this, I’m either on an airplane or stuck in Chicago airport for 7 hours while I wait for another leg of my flight back to California.

I thought it was only appropriate to show an outfit of the day where I hung out with my new blogger bud Megan. She was also living in California but moved back to Toronto just a few short days ago. So sad I won’t be seeing her pretty face on the regular anymore. But I remember this day back in late April, one of our last few visits with each other.

You’ll notice an iced coffee in my hands for some of the photos – which I might add was the blandest wateriest iced coffee I’ve spent my money on. I’ll be talking about that spot on the blog at another point and time. Anyhoodle. Back to the blog post, it’s supposed to be all fashiony and such. I think this was somewhere in the Mission district of San Francisco. Either way, it was hot, it was fun, and I was awkward. You’ll see after the mirror selfies in this bathroom in San Francisco which has terrific selfie lighting. Just sayin.

Outfit details will be listed at the bottom of the post. Hint, everything is under $20.

Do yo like the shirt I’m wearing? I call it my zoo-keeper shirt. I kinda feel like one, wearing it. All rustic and worn-in looking, and it has that general feel to it with the green. AM I RIGHT?

Awkward-dances-in-SFDon’t worry, California hasn’t changed me. I’m still doing the awkward dances in the street trying to shake my wiggles out and decide on how to post for the next picture. As soon as I saw this picture, I laughed so much I had to ask Megan if my mascara was running. I also may have let out a snort-laugh while I was at it. You know I’m laughing hard then. I immediately sent the picture to my husband and he wrote back “are you sitting on an invisible bench?” Cracked me right up.

Laughing-in-SFThen I started laughing again. Not knowing what to do with my body. I can be so awkward. :) But it’s all in good fun. We had a fantastic time laughing and carrying on trying to take some of the photos.

And to finish off the set, a few serious ones and a blooper of me putting my sunnies back on my shirt.

Alfie explores Dolores Park

Dolores-Park-with-AlfieI knew before my friend Megan moved back to Toronto, that we’d have to have a doggy play date at some point. So a few days before I flew back to Newfoundland (I’m still here for a few more days!) I thought we’d get the pup’s together and head out to Dolores Park in San Francisco. It was my first time hanging out there, and the view of the city was simply beautiful.

Alfie-and-BuffyBefore we walked down to the park, Alfie and Buffy had to meet in person. To say my face was sweating when I was first introducing Alfie to Megan’s frenchie, Buffy — was an understatement. Alfie is a bossy dog, and doesn’t want any person or animal near him or me. It took a while to calm him down, and Buffy is a playful puppy so it was two completely different dog personalities thrown in, forcing friendship. Oh Alfie, why can’t you ever have pup-friends? He’s so protective of me!

As always (such a predicable dog) Alfie calms down after a half hour or so. Then we headed out to the park for a bit where we snapped these gorgeous views of the city.
