She’s pregnant!

My friends from Newfoundland, Allyson and her husband Robb moved to South Korea over ten years ago. We’ve stayed in touch throughout the years and have been talking to each other on Facebook, sending Christmas cards in the mail and never losing track. I honestly thought I wouldn’t see them for a few more years. Well, ten years is a tremendous amount of time without seeing a good friend. I never thought they’d move back to Canada.

One of the primary reasons they’re moving home? My friend is expecting a baby girl!

On their excursion back to The Rock they had plans of stopping in Ontario. I knew I had to meet up with them, regardless of their location. Thankfully, they are staying at a friends house not too far from me. I didn’t have my car this weekend so I took public transit into Toronto and hung out with them all day Saturday!

The first thing I did when I knew I’d be seeing them before I was home in Newfoundland, was do a baby shop for the expecting parents. If any Mommy-To-Be’s love a good bargain, head over to Bonnie Tog’s. Nothing was over $12. I kind of got out of control shopping for a little girl. All I’ve ever shopped for were nephews or little boys! Girl clothes were so fun, check out the goodies!

How cute are those Oshkosh overalls?! Those plus the little leggings are my favorite. Oops, got them in the photo twice, that’s’ how much I like them. Ha ha.baby-clothes-for-baby-vAll piled into this cute bag.baby-bag-for-V

This weekend I met up with them both in Toronto, and like a bad rash I stuck with them all day not letting them out of my sight, ha ha.

We decided we were going to get some grub. We started walking around downtown Toronto and I thought I’d bring them to Hot House Cafe, a restaurant I went to in June (side note, I’m wearing the exact same outfit. Oops!. But unfortunately I walked in the completely wrong direction (for a really long time lol) and by the time we looked at a GPS we were too hungry to back track. We ended up in the gay district and directly across the street we saw a decent looking restaurant called Hair of the Dog and decided to pop in there to sit down and catch up on the last ten years.

Every menu had a different pup. Super cute.hair-of-the-dogMissed them so much!!!lunching-with-Allyson

We sat down and ordered some drinks. Beer and martini’s for Robb & I. Water for the Momma.beer-and-martinis

Allyson started opening her baby gifts. baby-clothes

After Allyson was done opening her gifts, they both had a favor to ask of me. Apparently. Hmm?? Well it was the best news of the year for me. Allyson and Robb asked me to be V’s God Mother! How crazy exciting is that? I gladly accepted the request. SOOO thrilled!!

Our sever asked what was up, and I told him that my friends and I haven’t seen each other in years and he suggested he take a photo of us all at the table. So nice of him.three-of-us-at-hair-of-the-I ended up ordering the chicken club. Pretty tasty.chicken-club

Once we finished our lunch, we chatted for a really long time at Hair of the Dog. We decided to leave and go for a stroll to a cafe for dessert. We popped into a Starbucks and sat outside for another bit, telling stories about their travels literally all across the globe. Their new nick name should be the Globe Trotters. It’s amazing to hear about the places they’ve visited throughout the years.

Two lemonades for the ladies, a coffee for Robb and some dessert. starbucksThis particular Starbucks location closed down at 5pm, so we literally got kicked out. At that point Robb & Allyson had to head back to their relatives place as they were heading out for supper later on in the evening.

So it was time to say my goodbyes. Not for ten more years, just for a few months, as I like to fly back to Newfoundland 3x/year I’m likely to see them in October during Thanksgiving. saying-solong

Until next time, you two!untilnext-timeQuestions for you….

The bread winner

Funny moment #1: Yesterday I was coming out of the parking garage in my apartment building. I go behind the building’s parking lot up this lane way which is technically one-way and everyone breaks the rules to avoid the street lights. So, I was venturing up the lane way…the wrong way. And the superintendent (who I LOVE…and is just freaking hilarious) waves me over to the side as if he wanted to talk to me. I turn my tunes off, roll down the window and he walks over to me . He points to the back of my car saying…. “Nancy. (serious look on his face) Your back wheels?…………. Are moving forward”. He stumped me for half a second until I BURST out laughing and had a good chuckle at his joke. He ALWAYS has something funny to say. I hope that man never leaves the building. Then again, he probably won’t after he’s been there longer than we have (Boyf moved into the building over 6 years ago).

Funny moment #2: My Mom e-mailed me a Graphic Design position at the local university back home in Newfoundland as she always does. Not the most subliminal message asking me to move back home. This time I sent it to The Boyf saying “If I apply to this job and get it. I’ll be the bread dough winner“. TOTALLY meaning to write bread-winner of the relationship. But I forgot how it was worded. Then than e-mail thread totally got hijacked by him saying he wanted to buy a bread maker (he’s been going on about getting a bread maker for the past few months). Was that funny? lol…I feel like it was. Then again it doesn’t take much to make me laugh.

Yesterday on my lunch break I went shopping. I bought 3 pairs of sunnies for $10. Heck yea Ardene!sunnies

I sat on my other sunglasses (shown below, but they’re exactly the same) and broke them. So now I’ve stocked up on three pairs that all look pretty similar. Love the black ones the best. In retrospect I should’ve just got three pairs of black ones. Creature of habit. 1063923_10153005567830176_279018400_o
I then picked up 4 pairs of socks for $18…I love how summery they look! Am I the only one who gets excited about things like this?

The Boyf and I went on a small, but fun adventure this weekend. We picked up some fresh produce from the local Farmer’s Market. I love that we have more than one market to choose from (I only know of three), so each week I literally go to a different one. Love how inexpensive the produce is. We didn’t need too much, so I only picked up tomatoes, peaches, strawberries and bell peppers.

Then we drove to Burlington to pick up a new wetsuit and tried it out on one of the lakes. wetsuitcoming out of watermuscle back

This pic below is an old one of him, but I still love it and it kind of relates to what I’m talking about lol.

From there we packed up the car and headed out to a friends house for a potluck. I immediately spotted some homemade lemon macaroons (macarons?). They were to DIE for. Everyone was gobbling them up.macaroons

Totally getting photo bombed here. I wanted The Boyf to take a picture of me with this vodka bottle that has the best packaging ever. It’s made in Canada, but someone at the potluck mentioned it was made in Newfoundland? I’m not sure if it was the vodka in them that was talking, or if it’s truly made in Newfoundland. Anyone know? hahavodka skull photo bomb

What did you do this weekend?

What do you normally bring to a potluck?
We were requested to bring a spinach salad which I loaded up with nuts, seeds, tomatoes, peppers and strawberries. Topped with some coconut oil and balsamic vinaigrette.

OOTWW

I forgot to mention I was over on Happy Fit Mama’s site yesterday doing a guest post talking about my favorite summer foods. Check it out if you’ve got the chance.

Love that today is already Friday and pay day. Bonus. Since we had a civic holiday in Ontario on Monday, the week just flew on by. Newfoundland did not get the holiday though, but did get Wednesday off due to the annual Regatta.

Just want to say how GLAD I am that summer decided to make a reappearance. This may sound weird, but I love being overheated. I wear a company hoody over top of my regular work clothes almost every day. I just love being cozy and warm, so finally seeing the sun out the past two days is definitely making me happier. Thanks Ma-Nature!

To take advantage of the gorgeous sun that was out yesterday, my co-worker and I went to a Portuguese bakery & deli. A different co-worker asked where we went for lunch, and this was my answer:

“I ate at the best place today! Lesbian for lunch”. Not even close: Lisboa Bakery and Deli
Uh. Totally came out wrong. I forgot the name of the place and that is what I blurted out. HAHAHA. Then that was the running joke of the entire afternoon.

My lunch was just a plain chicken sandwich but the garlic mayo and fresh bun definitely left me wanting more. It was a decent price too.Lunch

I also got a sparkling passion fruit drink with my meal. It tasted kinda weird, but I liked it.lunch2
For dessert we went across the street for Marble Slab Creamery ice cream. I’ve never been there before. It’s neat that they scoop your ice cream and add any toppings you want and it gets mashed together on this ….frozen marble slab. I got Rocky Road. It was way too expensive for what its worth. I’ll stick to Menchies, or this one gelato place near my house.dessert
I’m not the biggest fan of Winter (least fav season) but I do love Fall. I don’t ever want to rush away the seasons, or months. I want to enjoy living in the moment and not look too forward into the future. Know what I’m getting at? Let’s enjoy what we’ve got, right here, right now.
