7 Beauty Hacks While Getting Your Beauty Sleep

Let’s give your body some extra help while getting your beauty sleep. Here are seven beauty hacks for you to wake up with a fresh glow in the a.m.. While I definitely don’t invest my entire evening pampering myself each night, I reach for these products when my skin is parched or in need of a boost, as I know they’ll work when I need them to.

REMOVE YOUR MAKEUP| purity by philosophy
You’ve heard it before, and I’m reminding you again. Removing your makeup plays a major role on how your skin will look the next day. I tend to use makeup remover towelettes then go in with my purity by Philosophy cleanser for that second/deep cleanse.

Exfoliate| Clarisonic Smart Profile*
You guessed it, I use the Smart Profile and add a small dollop of purity by Philosophy cleanser and go to town on my face. If I’m using this in the shower, and over my body I’ll use the same product because I hoard this purity cleanser and have backups any time there is a 20% off Sephora sale. Clarisonic’s Smart Profile is new-to-me, and a fantastic product to exfoliate and cleanse with. My Clarisonic Mia 2 bit the bullet last year and wouldn’t hold a charge any more, so I’m pretty stoked to have a new one! This one is a #GiftFromClarisonic

Apply an overnight masque| Aveda Tulasāra wedding masque* | Dior Beauty Awakening Rehydrating Mask Capsules
While getting that beauty sleep, your skin is working to repair itself and an overnight masque is there to help you out. This brand new mask from Aveda is unreal. I wake up with glowy, smooth and healthy looking skin in the mornings, without looking greasy. If you want to really splurge, buy the Dior Beauty Awakening Rehydrating Mask Capsules. They’re fantastic to drop into an overnight bag and you get at least 2-3 uses out of each pod.

Protect your under eyes| Bobbi Brown Extra Eye Repair | Aveda Tulasāra eye masque
Personally I apply under eye cream twice a day, especially during the winter months for extra hydration, as under the eye area is one of the first places to show signs of aging. While I enjoy the consistency and the effects of Aveda Tulsãra nothing will compare to my Bobbi Brown Extra Eye Repair Cream. If you’re waking up in the a.m. with puffy under eyes perhaps omit the eye cream at night altogether. Although you could be applying it improperly and too close to your eyes. Remember to apply eye cream using your ring finger along the orbital bone, and not on the eyelids or right under the eyes. If placing too close to the eye, the product travels upwards (with body temperature) and irritates your eyes.

Moisturize your body/hands/feet| L’Occitane Shea Butter hand cream* | Dior Abricot nail cream
Applying moisturizer will keep your skin looking its best when you wake up. I love applying a gorgeous thick moisturizer on my feet in the winter, pop my tooties in the socks overnight and wake up with the smoothest skin. For my dry cuticles on both my hands and feet, I love using my Dior nail abricot cream. I’ve talked about it many times before, it’s best applied at night due to its consistency, but I swear it’ll look manicure-fresh. It does that special somethin’-somethin’ to ’em that I love. As for my hands, I have been really loving shea butter hand cream and L’Occitane does it best.

Silk Pillowcase| From Amazon/eBay!
Although I’m pretty sure ours are satin and not silk. Kinda the same, right? I bought fancy slippery pillowcases for my husband and I at the start of 2016, and both of us has noticed a significant difference on how our hair looks in the morning. One, definitely a lot less breakage overtime, since your hair glides across the pillowcase. Wish it would stop my hair from separating from my crown though, makin’ me look like a balding old dude in the a.m. though!

Keep your makeup brushes clean| purity by philosophy
When you wake up in the a.m. with fresh, glowy revived skin, you don’t want to apply makeup using a cruddy old makeup brush – so keep those clean and free of bacteria! I clean mine with my purity cleanser as it’s nice and gentle.

Addicted to Stationary (here’s a haul for ya)

Stationary-HeaderA post from me, a little out of the ordinary. But for those who’ve known me ages, know it’s not out of the ordinary that I spend a good hour or more in a stationary store. And ya know San Francisco Bay Area has a ton of them. I’ve even made trips to San Francisco JUST to visit these said stores.

I’ve always been a pen/pencil/marker/stationary/notebook collector my entire life. I have tons of little notebooks back home in Newfoundland filled with the same type of cartoon characters, over and over and over again.

My stationary and writing utensil game hasn’t changed at all. I’d like to think it all came from my Father being an Architect and he wore that off onto me a little bit, with the fascination of different pen tips, and whatnot. So, I’m here to share a little bit of goodies I found while shopping around the past few years here in California. I’m especially loving the Japanese stationary stores, all sorts of wonderful gems in there for a fraction of the cost of what I’d find elsewhere.

First up are some items I was sent from Cool Pencil Case (sent for review).cassette-pencil-caseSince I’m an 80’s baby I knew immediately I wanted to get the Tape Cassette pencil case. It’s AWESOME. I wonder if kids these days know what this is? I should ask my nephews, hah.

Pencil-caseIt has a zippered pouch and you can hold tons of layered pens on top of one another due to how the zipper is sewn on, so you’re not limited to how many fits across. Make sense? Kinda wish the inside had a pattern or something, the beige is kind of boring in my opinion.

Outfits of the Week

It has been so long since I did a casual/informal outfits of the week blog post on here! I miss switching up my outfits and styling them differently each day, but when I’m at home most of the time, I often find myself reaching for the same pair of jeans (those comfy Zara ones!) and a plain tee. Boring ol’ OOTD’s day in and day out, but it works, and it’s easy.

I’ve switched things up a bit this week and decided to document a couple of days worth of outfits, especially since I am working with Tobi clothing, an online clothing store similar to Forever 21 or H&M quality. It was hard for me to pick out a few pieces to review because their collection of everything from Necklaces, Pencil Skirts, to High Low Dresses was absolutely huge. I decided to stick with my comfort zone and pick out some classic pieces that I’d wear more often.

Pink-Sweater-OOTDCalifornia Casual /// Warmer Than Life Sweater + Zara Jeans + Charlotte Russe flip flops
A perfectly oversized off the shoulder knitted sweater, flip flops ‘n’ jeans? Doesn’t get any easier than that for a California casual day. This has to be my favourite outfit from the entire week. The sweater fits perfectly and is going to be a staple in my wardrobe for sure. For reference, I got a medium in this sweater and I’m usually a small — but I think I made the right decision because it hits just below the hips and looks great off the shoulder.

OOTD-1Layering Made Easy /// Suzy Shier jacket + Old Navy light hoodie + Zara Jeans + American Eagle Belt + Target Sneakers + Banana Republic clutch
If you follow me on Instagram you probably got a sneak peek of what I wore when I went to the Bay Area blogging meetup at a coffee shop in downtown Los Altos. This is pretty much what I wear on an everyday basis — those jeans are my favourite with distress marks in the perfect spots. I now need Target to get back on the ball and bring back these slip on faux-Vans. They’re the best thing ever!

Pink-top-OOTDNot My Go-To Top /// My Go To Top + Lululemon tank + Forever 21 Jeans + Charlotte Russe flip flops
My least favourite outfit and I would not recommend buying it from Tobi unfortunately. As soon as I held this shirt up when I opened the parcel my eyes widened. It was shaped like a square. I tried it on immediately and my husband asked me if it was a flying-jump-suit. You know those dare devils that jump off cliffs and glide back down to the ground? It honestly looked like that. Now, this time I paired it with jeans, something more suitable. When I first tried it, I was wearing leggings – and the shirt was noticeably shorter in the back than in the front. I’m not a fan of it mainly due to the square shaped, and the short-body (although looking at this photo it doesn’t look as short as it does in person). It’s also pretty pricey at $46, so if you’re into this shirt then it’s right up your alley, but I think there are better options on Tobi’s website than this tee.

Black-OOTDCozy Every Day /// Stolen Nights Swing Tee + Target Pants + Target sneakers + eBay sunglasses
These swinging type of tops where it’s longer by the hips and shorter in the front/back are my favourite types of tee’s to wear. I already own a couple of them in grey and white that I purchased from Forever 21. I think it pairs fantastic with the olive coloured jeans I picked up a few months ago from Target. A cozy every day outfit.

Thanks for Tobi for sending along some great pieces to me for review. New customers get 50% off their first order, which is pretty sweet, so take advantage of that if you’re looking for new additions to your wardrobe. Shop Tobi for more outfit ideas: Coats + Hoodies + One Piece Swimsuits.
