Very random

  • Weekend was very very busy and now I’m very very tired. Sunday we woke up at 3:30AM to head to Peterborough for the Half–Ironman my boyfriend competed in (photos soon!). We got back in time for my soccer game at least! We lost.
  • I think I wished too hard for the sun to come out this weekend. I got burnt yesterday. Bad.
  • I signed up for Dairy Queen’s mailing list and got a coupon e-mailed to me. Buy 1 blizzard, get 1 free.
  • I will have a real post later as I feel incompetent to come up with a real post.
  • I also used a lot of coupons on Saturday and got some great deals and freebies. Will also post that later.
  • I’m going to do the “10-things” (The HonestScrap award comes with a caveat or two. Firstly, you have to tell your readers ten things about you they may not know, but that are true. Secondly, you have to tag 10 people with the award.) that Pam tagged me in below, break the rules and not tag 10 people. Mine are so boring:
  1. I remember faces and never names. I’m often too embarrassed to ask the woman in the elevator her name again, because I’m sure I’ve asked her 3 times already. She always greets me with “haaallooo nansee”.
  2. I have a sneaking suspicion that I will never purchase my car (at the price I want to pay for it) before the end of the summer.
  3. If I’m in a bad mood — just give me food. Food always makes me smile. Especially at work, when it’s free.
  4. Before every soccer game or anything athletic like going on the track for a run, or climbing at the gym; I get so incredibly stomach sick. But not enough to get ill.
  5. I’m an amazing saver if I have something in mind. I will put everything I possibly can towards that little piggy bank in order to get the amount I aimed for, as fast as humanly possible. Sometimes I even eat poorly because of it. Oops. Guess it’s a good thing though, because I don’t like debt therefore I never have any! lol
  6. Sometimes I wish I had my Brother and Mother’s outgoing traits. But I’m a bit shy and awkward like my Father.
  7. I have nightmares that my teeth go back into place. Like they looked before braces. I wear my retainer nightly. My boyfriend got me into this fantastic habit, as he still wears his religiously — every.singly.night. after 6 years of having braces off.
  8. I wish I had an SLR camera. However, I probably wouldn’t be patient enough to figure out the settings to make the photos look awesome. Instead I will stick to my point and shoot.
  9. I want a puppy. I also want an Acura TSX in white, more vacation time, spend more time with my Irish nephews, and own a home. HA!
  10. I blush when I hand over coupons to the cashier. I don’t know why I feel so embarrassed sometimes.

Frustrations

I get really frustrated when something is completely broken and I have no idea how to even go about fixing it. The guys at WordPress were quick to respond to my support question when I e-mailed them about not being able to log in. However, that’s no longer a problem. What the problem is now, is that the whole left hand side of the menu is gone. I posted something yesterday (and today after I realized I could log in) and after that I couldn’t see my menu anymore. I contacted support once again and this is what they say:

Hi,
Because the blog is not hosted here at WordPress.com, you will need to head over to http://www.wordpress.org/support for the appropriate support forums for self-hosted blogs using the WordPress.org software.

Hi,
Neither of the blogs are hosted here at WordPress.com, so we are unable to directly provide support for them. They are both hosted externally using the WordPress.org software. You can seek support for this software over at http://www.wordpress.org/support

Please see http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/ for the differences between these two platforms.

LAMEO.

Both sites are not hosted on wordpress.com, yet this site ‘spiffykerms.com’ works totally fine and I’m doing more editing in this one than the other. How do I add back my menu? Why is it even broken in the first palce? I don’t play around on that website as it’s just a coupon site and don’t really care what it looks like, for now. Argh.

Edited on July 3, 2009:
So. The wordpress.org guy told me that my CSS didn’t validate and it was because my of recent post. I deleted it, and the sidebar is still missing. I’m still annoyed.

Carbalicious Canadian

chopping

It’s Canada Day here folks! And what a holiday it is. Unfortuch for me the weather hasn’t been cooperating and the whole day has just been spent indoors. One minute it’s a downpour with thunder, the next it looks like the sun is trying to break through the smokey grey colored clouds.

So I took the opportunity to feed our bellies with some home style goodness from the kitchen of yours truly!

For brekk I made a ‘big breakfast’ for the boyfriend who inhaled it in no time. That consisted of 3 scrambled eggs, hashbrowns and 4 sausages. I myself ate a cheese stick, a crisp green mitsu apple, and a nature valley sweet’n’salty almond bar. Mmmm. No photos of those, as I didn’t even think about blogging today. Of course, we didn’t think it would be raining on and off the whole day and we’d be outside celebrating our Country!

It definitely feels like a Saturday. But what trickery! We have to go back to work tomorrow. I stubbed my toe on the fridge (I have no idea how!) and half of my nail ripped off. JUST before I go get a pedicure on Friday. Guess I’ll be picking a neutral polish so it won’t be noticeable while it’s growing out. For those that care to see, I actually took a photo! I promise, it’s not that gross. At least I stubbed it before the pedi, and not after.

ouchLovely.

For supper I made a nice rotini chicken salad with bell pepper and tomatoes. You guys it was sooo good. Here they all are sitting waiting to be put into the pasta salad and there’s the bruchetta mixture on the bottom left of the “triangle bowls” so to speak. Don’t get white counter tops, ever btw. This apartment building is so old school.pepper-tomatoes

After:

supper

(Wouldn’t tri-colored rotini look  so much more colorful? I’ll remember this for next time!)

Which was seasoned with just something light, like the  Italian salad dressing. It went so well with my home made bruchetta, and ceasar salad!

salads

Mmm our salads (mine looks so tiny!)

saladAnd of course, Boyfriends salad needed to be garnished with faux bacon bits and parmesan.

I’ve never actually made bruchetta before, and last night I was definitely craving it. So, I picked up some more garlic and created my own!

bruchettaMy photo taking skills are so ballin’ eh? (Catch the sarcasm?) Gotta say, it was sooo tasty, and very crunchy. Boyfriend referred the bruchetta to restaurant style. Nice compliments on my part if I do say so, huh??

Ingredients:
Dash of balsamic vinegar … drop of EVOO … Salt and Pepper to taste … italian seasoning (no basil in the hizzouse) and 1 and a half pieces of minced garlic.

There was only one baguette left at the grocery store an hour before closing last night and I’m pretty sure a lot of people around here had the same idea as me. I snatched up the very last one and it was whole grain. I scrunched up my nose at that, but I actually had some pieces before laying it out on the baking sheet, and I’m craving more! bread

Above: The bread, before cooking it in the oven for ten minutes.

yummObviously stuffing my gob while I awaited supper on some fresh bread.

a-must

Yes, I’ve been told I had “scaly” or “lizard hands” before. They’re a bit rough looking, but that’s the abuse it gets from being an avid rock climber since ’94! Though, I must admit — a lot of my callouses are diminished :(

After supper, I had to of course take my daily intake of iron, B12 and other pill to counteract the iron pill consequences. *ahem. I hate taking these pills, but they’re a must. Some times I go days without swallowing them either. Anyway!

Well. It’s all in my belly now, and off we go to catch a show of Fireworks! See you all tomorrow! :)
