My CrossFit Journal (week 20)

I wasn’t on the computer the entire weekend, so I forgot to post the CrossFit journal. First off — I wanted to congratulate myself (hah!) Twenty weeks in and still going STRONG. Arrr!! No need to take out any term life insurance for me. I’m grand sure.

I freaking love it. I think I like it so much because it’s constantly changing, it’s never the same workout every day, or even every week for that matter! You could go weeks or even months without doing the same workout but once you do it again you’re a bit stronger than the last. It’s really awesome.

Week 20 Day 1.

Back Squat
5-5-5-5-5

(source)

Okay so before I get into the Back Squat and how I did – I wanted to first mention that the warmup was sprints. Again. Even though I’m categorized at CrossFit as a runner, I absolultey hate it. I was the only person at CrossFit that evening so that was pretty fun, having a one-on-one almost like a personal training sesh. Either way. I had to do a 400m, running the first 200m at a regular pace and the final 200m at a light run, not full out. Get it? Apparently I did so well and took 6 seconds off my first 400m run. (We had to do this 5 times!!). I ended up nearly secretly crying and wanting to go home. The self-competitiveness I have inside me is insane. My breathing sucks. I don’t have asthma, I got tested last year. It’s literally all mental because when I knew I was on my final 400m run I could bust it out like no other.

I hated it.

Onto the WOD Back Squats. I lifted the 45lb bar 5 times, then I moved up to 50lbs, then 75lbs twice and 80lbs twice. It was a good workout. I was melting. There was a ton of time to kill between sets so I practiced kips, and handstands lol.

Week 20 Day 2.

5 Rounds for time of:
12 Deadlift; 155/115lbs
9 Hang power clean; 155/lbs
6 Push jerk; 155/115lbs

I ended up doing 55lbs because using 115lbs is INSANE. I can’t do a push jerk like that! Moses.

Our warmup was tiring, but not too bad. Mostly ab work. Here is what we had to complete:

3 rounds:
30 second plank
15 situps – tossing med ball at the wall and leaning back with it with your arms extended
15 kettlebell chops (I used a 8lb) left side
15 kettlebell chops (I used a 8lb) right side
15 flutters

A black mask

I scared my dog Alfie when I walked into the living room with my black mask on my face the other day. It’d be funny if I filmed his reaction with surveillance cameras. Scardy cat dog he was.

I was eying this peel-off mask from Sephora and ended up asking for a sample of it. It’s called Boscia Luminizing Black Mask and retails for $34 (USD). It has a fantastic rating of 4 out of 5 stars on Sephora’s customer reviews. I think why everyone seems to be fascinated about this mask is that it peels-off, instead of washes off your face like every other mask on the market. I left it on my face for about 20 minutes, until the black mask wasn’t shiny anymore and started peeling it off.

It reminded me exactly of what the Biore nose strips does. It rips out all of the dead skin and anything else gunked up on your face as gross as that sounds. When I was peeling it off it came off mostly in one piece. The mask was black, so it was hard to tell if it ‘worked’. It felt like ripping a band-aid off, a little painful but fun. lol

I don’t usually use face masks and it was a fun experience. While it did feel smoother, and softer I’m not sure that I noticed a complete difference in my skin so I doubt I’d ever fork out the dough for the full sized bottle of it. I’d rather spend my money on shoes.

I have normal to dry skin. My skin will flake if I don’t wear moisturizer almost every day. I had a sample for a one time use at Sephora. This mask says that it’s a mineral-rick mask which will detoxify and purify your skin giving brightening effects.  This Boscia mask is sulfate and paraben free, along with some other formulations that people may be concerned about. But again it’s all listed on Sephora’s website. Ideally you’re supposed to use this mask once or twice a week. But as I said before I wouldn’t purchase it personally, and having a trial size was a perfect amount for me.

Do you pamper your skin and use face masks?

Imagine having actual physical gold invested in your bank. Logs of gold. Apparently now with certain investments you can put a hunk of 401k gold for savings. I think just having the thing displayed in a cabinet would be much cooler. But probably not wise due to theft. However, maybe you could make a replica, cover it with gold tin foil (hey it’s practical, if you could get your hands on some gold tin, and that is if they actually make it) and have it on display and tell all your friends and family that you have a gold IRA laying around.

In all seriousness doing a legitimate gold IRA transfer may be the next new thing considering they probably don’t lose its value as quickly as other forms. But what do I really know? It’s Friday and it’s so close to cocktail time. I do know that gold benefits and has an on the rise gold price. Did you know that gold is referred as the “crisis commodity”? People lose trendy stocks which makes the price of gold rise, especially in IRA’s! It’s quite a profitatable investment.

The gold of course isn’t limited to the expensive bricks you can get coins, and Canadian one’s at that.  Go to the site I linked and click on Gold Canadian Maple Leaf. Looks kind of like our loonie with the Queen on it, and the maple leaf. Except it’s semi precious… golden. Sweet.

What do you think of it all? It’d be pretty cool to actually hold one and say you own a brick of gold. Build up enough and you could have your very own golden yellow brick road.
