Pulled Chicken Sandwich

I woke up Saturday morning with basically a full blown sinus cold. I was miserable and wanted the pain in my nose to go away. I ended up taking some over the counter sinus med’s all day Saturday and on Sunday it was still there, but not as bad as the day before. Monday morning I woke up and coughed all day. I did go to work yesterday, because I had a TON of stuff to do, regarding the campaign I’ve been organizing for Breast Cancer Awareness, so I needed to go in! Maybe I’ll post more about that later in the month. It’s totally fun and I was contact companies for some “goodies” for the staff I work with.

Today is the first day that I’m starting to feel like myself again. Finally. It’s been forever.

Anyway. Onto a recipe blog post, since I haven’t done one in a while.

I’m not a fan of pulled pork sandwiches. What I am a fan of – is pulled-CHICKEN sandwiches. Mouth watering and derrrrioucous in my mouth.

I made them a few weeks ago. I photocopied a recipe out of a Campbells Soup cook book I found at work. I didn’t end up using it because it consisted of way too many ingredients for my liking. Apple cidar vinegar, brown sugar… so what I ended up doing was just pan cooking the chicken, and shredding it with two forks. Took it away from the heat and dumped in some of my favorite BBQ sauce: Peppercorn found at Save On Foods in Western Canada (BC is where we bought ours).

Pulled Chicken Sandwich “recipe”, and I quote that word since it’s the second easiest thing I’ve ever made. First thing being Kraft Dinner. Oh yeah.

As I said, I’m not the hugest fan of pulled pork sandwiches since I felt the meat was too wet and slimy on my palette. So I decided to go for a better option!

While the chicken was cooking on the grill I heated up some of this BBQ sauce I purchased in British Columbia at Save On Foods. Since we don’t have one of those grocery stores here in Ontario, I still  can’t seem to find a substitute for it at Zehrs or Sobeys! I’ve also used Diana Honey Garlic Sauce for this as well and it was scrumptious.Open faced sammich. I like mine pretty dry, but I may have needed to add something to it since it may have been too dry with the panini bread I used with it. My Boyfriend usually adds more BBQ sauce to his. Lotsaflava.I serve it with a simple salad! I’ve bought all kinds of different variety packs of salad spicer-uppers at Zehrs and I kinda like this one, but the Mexican one is better (and hotter/spicier).

Sibu Beauty

I was surprised when I received an e-mail from www.SibuBeauty.com asking me to review one of their products, I didn’t hesitate at all and wrote back immediately when I was on vacation in BC and told them that I’d love to review something from them.  I don’t know how they found my blog, but I’m glad they did. I’ve been a fan of Sibu products for a while now after I’ve seen quite a few YouTube videos about it.

Sibu sent me the Repair & Protect face cream which I’ve been using on my face each morning after I get my morning shower. The cream itself is a baby yellow color with a very distinct smell to it; sort of like a light citrus scent with hints of orange and cranberry. The scent is unique because of the sea buckthorn berry ingredient, which I’ll get into more further down into this review.

This is two pumps from the cream, and I put that over my face. Yeah, I have dry-scaley and calloused hands. That means they’re working hands! Chalking up at Climbing and CrossFit will do that to you.

When I apply the cream onto my face it feels moisturizing, light weight and quite slick. It doesn’t leave any sort of residue but just sinks into my skin just enough so I feel moisturized. I apply liquid foundation about 25 seconds after its been rubbed into my face. I also enjoy the luxurious looking packaging of Sibu products. My face cream is in a semi-frosted glass bottle, and the pump seems very well put together. Product hasn’t gotten stuck through it yet!

Onto the Sea Buckthorn berry that I talked about in the second paragraph up above. Sibu’s product line is based around one significant ingredient which is the sea buckthorn. It has a little special place in my heart, not because it was first grown and harvested high in the Himalaya’s — but now I’ve seen it grown even in Newfoundland! I know this because there was a CBC documentary about it when I was home for Thanksgiving! The sea buckthorn berry has been labeled as the super fruit, primarily because this berry is rich in antioxidants and fatty acids.

A lot of people would probably really enjoy this product as it is cruelty-free and contains no gluten, sodium dairy, yeast, wheat or preservatives. Sibu products are quite affordable, the Repair & Protect cream that I received, sells for $20.95 on their site. But keep an eye out for their shop as they often have a buy 1 get 1 free promotion. So sign up for their e-mails to be notified!

Have you tried any products by Sibu before? What kind of moisturizer do you use on your face?

Thanksgiving in Newfoundland

I flew home from October 7-12 last week to celebrate Thanksgiving with my family back home in Newfoundland. The trip was fantastic and I spent the majority of my time with my two youngest nephews who are 3 and 5.  It was also a damp, drizzly windy cold weekend when I went home, and of course the tropical flowers were not wilting/dying in Ontario where the weather was hotter than the hottest day of summer. Half jealous I missed it. I ended up getting to Toronto airport two hours before I needed to be there. There was an incident with the Security, which held up lines for hours and hours. I thought that going there early I’d at least make my flight. But by the time I got there, everything was cleared up and I had 2 hours to kill. So I picked up some supper. It was disgusting. I also did a bit of Christmas shopping at Lush. It was wonderful. Except for the fact they charged me for an extra bath bomb and I didn’t realize it until I was in another province.

I got little sleep on Friday night as I arrived home at about 4am. I couldn’t contain my excitement so I woke up at about 7am so I could drive over to my Brothers house to hang out with my nephews. First, my Mom and I got a few groceries, then headed to the broski’s house where I played with my nephews for hours til lunch time came along. We made mini-pizzas!

Kelan enjoyed it! He’s also sporting the purple Dinosaur shirt I gave him for his birthday a few months back. Score 2 points for Ancy Nancy. Kelan LOVES the color purple and also likes Dinosaurs. Dude. Wicked.Ruairi also loved his pizza. Mister Chatster-McChatty didn’t make a peep at all when he was chomping down.

After lunch I strapped the kids into their car seats and headed out on an adventure to the mall! Ruairi has the best names for his stuffed animals, and ended up naming the Sock Monkey I gave him: Mr Murphy. Except he calls it Mistuh Muh-fee. So cute.

At the mall Kelan spotted this kids cart. I told him to go claim it. It was literally across the hall and he was darting, weaving in and out of “traffic” (people) and hopped right in until I walked over. I almost keeled over in tears laughing at him racing through to claim the fire truck cart.

Isn’t it super cute? It definitely kept them from running away from me at least.

The boys got thirsty so I bought them a cherry slushie. I took the first sip, just to test if it was safe enough for them to drink ;) Of course, it brought back memories… and I wanted to drink it all on them. But I shared.

On actual Thanksgiving Day everyone came over to my parents house and of course I took a monstrosity amount of photos, to show you all. I’m tellin ya, this is going to be one lengthy blog post! ;)

Ruairi was pretending to be asleep. Hey! It’s time to smile, boy.

There we go.

Kelan loves his photo being taken. My little superstar has a hollywood smile! :)

Hanging out with Ancy Nancy on the loveseat. Look at them both cuddled up to me.  Ha! I win.I’m pretty sure they’d do anything I’d ask them to. Speaking of which, I asked if I could put Ruairi’s hair in a pony tail. He agreed. I later asked if I could paint his finger nails. He surprisingly agreed with that too, but unfortunately I didn’t bring any hot pink nail polish with me ;) Little rosey cheeks on him!

The next day I went climbing with a few friends back home.

Oops! Everyone loves a good candid shot. Here we all are, smiling :) Good friends for 10+ years!Going up….coming down!I tested out my friends new (t0 me) harness. Arc’teryx has automatic double-backing harnesses which I do not like at all. But here I am on the wall testing it out, lol.

I’ll spare you the details and just supply you with a handful of the many many photos I took over my weekend trip. Here are some of my favorite photos.

I had a fantastic trip and I’ll be back home for Christmas in less than 10 weeks! I can’t wait to see everyone again :)
