Kiehls skin care

Kiehl’s is a very high end skin care line, probably at par with Philosophy (my review). I had the chance to try out Kiehl’s face moisturizer after I purchased a jar of it on Ebay last winter to dry and self-cure my own eczema. It was nice, but too light weight for the dry winter months in Ontario.

Kiehl’s had a Thanksgiving promotion which I posted about on my coupon site, where Canadians can get free shipping and a free hand salve with any purchase, and three samples. Just like Sephora does! Bonus. Obviously I went for it. I looked for the cheapest product I could find on their site because I didn’t want to get one of the $50 products I’ve been eying. Trying to save a bit of money for Christmas, ya know. So I bought an $8 lip balm.

It came in a pretty packaged arrangement with a Harley Davidson look-a-like sticker (ahem Jen). All my freebies plus the lip balm I purchased. Kiehl’s Ultra facial cream (what I ordered off ebay last year), lip balm #1, ultimate strength hand salve, close shavers squadron, and bare earth deep pore cleansing masque. Nice sized samples at 5mls each + the hand salve is 30 ml!

Though, for my purchase of the $8.50 lip balm, I’d appreciate a little lip piece to smooth over my lips with the balm. Am I supposed to wash my hands, apply the balm on my fingers then to my lips? Annoying!

Why am I writing this blog post about my recent purchase at Kiehl’s? It’s because I found something similar to what my Mom uses on her dry hands. A moisturizer quite on par with Neutrogena Norwegian formula hand cream. It’s thick, hard to rub in, but keeps your hands moisturized for hours even after washing.

However, of course Kiehl’s = more expensive version of Neutrogena’s cream. But still! Meanwhile, it took forever for it to ship out of their location in Quebec — 7 whole days til I got a shipping notification. So it was in my hands in 11 days. I assume it took so long because of their Canada-wide free shipping.

What’s your favorite lotion or moisturizer?

I’m doing something right!

I used to get my hair cut every 8-10 weeks, as I thought that’s what you were supposed to do, when you’re growing your hair out. Late September was my last scheduled hair appointment, and the day before I ended up canceling and re-scheduling because I thought my hair looked rather good and didn’t need the scissors put to it. I hadn’t straightened it since August, I didn’t have any split ends, so I said frig it and I ended up booking for the next appointment within two weeks. Except, I didn’t realize my hair stylist was so popular and couldn’t get in until October 22. No big deal. So 12 weeks passed since I received my last hair cut and when I went in, I told the stylist my hair grew a tremendous amount. I mean check it out.

Here’s a photo of me a few days after I got it cut, and then here’s a photo 12 weeks later. Look at the growth! I should’ve washed my hair in the yellow-cardigan photo, but I was getting it washed and styled that very same day at the salon. So I didn’t. But you can totally tell that its grew an inch or more in 12 weeks, right?

When I went in to get my hair trimmed, my hair stylist told me to keep doing what I’m doing. I told him I’ve been using hair serums while my hair is damp, and after I blow dried it. I also use my boar bristle brush to blow dry it straight instead of using the hair straightener. That’s all I’ve been doing! I even break a lot of “rules” and shampoo, condition and blow dry every day. I can’t stand not washing my hair. I’ve tried it a handful of times to train my hair to not separate in the back when I sleep. Because when I wake up I look like I’m balding. Nothing fixes it. My issue isn’t grease, it’s separation! Try and fix that, dry shampoos. Nuh uh, not happening.

He put velcro rollers on my crown to give it volume. I say it was a waste of time, since my hair kinda looks fuller in the before photo. He also straightened my ends, which was nice for a change, to have it all sleek looking.

Alright, so the before and after photos of my hair cut aren’t that drastic, but I like making a blog post about hair cuts, because — getting a hair cut can be traumatic to me. I’ve had many many issues with bad hair cuts, dyes and whatever else comes with it. So far so good with this stylist. I’ve been to him 3 times now. No screw ups yet! He’s just incredibly expensive.

I also wanted to tell you that all of my layers are gone. My hair is fine, but I have a lot of it. I want it to look as thick as possible at the ends, rather than have them all straggly looking. Until my hair is longer, I won’t have layers. But when it grows to about my mid-upper arm, I’ll think of putting back long hardly noticeable layers lol..

Yay for good hair cuts!

Geeked out

I may regret posting this Halloween costume of mine on my website. But I loved it, and I wanted to show you guys how geeked out I was when I was suited up as Mary Katherine Gallagher from a Saturday Night Live skit.

Scott told me that I acted her out too well, and I was scaring him. HAHA!!

Get ready, because they’re a little crazy! We took some photos of the girls dressed up at work, but again as per my other post I don’t want to post them because their faces are in it too and most people at work don’t know about my blog.

I purchased a fake pony tail that matched my hair fairly well. It was heavyyy… I also wore some nerdy non-presecription glasses which I actually kind of like! I was playing with them last week, see?

A better photo of my fake pony tail. Above, I’m giving Alfie a treat except he’s bouncing for it, thus the blurry shot.

Of course, I have to save the best for laugh. As soon as I saw this picture I fell to the floor and laughed til my stomach hurt. Scott smirked of course, but knew that it wasn’t me acting out Mary Katherine Gallagher, but rather me being myself and actually being able to let loose in public, dressed as her. HAHA. Most fun costume I’ve ever worn. Hope you had a laugh or two at my expense ;)
