9 months postpartum

So! What details can I fill you in on, this month with our bebs?

Well for one, the day goes by so much smoother if we’re outside the house more than inside! So I’ve taken a notice to that, and made sure we regularly take Alfie and bebs out for a walk, and we go to the library three times per week (some weeks, more!).

He now has 6 teeth. Madness. At this rate he’s gotten two teeth every month for the past few months.

Beb’s has started to show signs of possession in his 8th month. Whether it be a handful of grass he ripped from the ground, a piece of fluffy dust he’s found, or his toy for that matter – if you take it away from him, he will let you know he’s not pleased with you. It’s interesting seeing that developmental stage come through, since it was clearly never there before. Watching his personality is incredibly amazing to me. I can’t wait to head back to Canada (not sure when we’re going) for him to meet all of our families. He still has a set of grandparents to meet, and tons of cousins, aunts and uncles. I wonder if he’ll be in the stage of stranger-danger come then… I hope not!

I’m super happy one of his aunt’s has come down for a second time to visit our bebs. Although it was a super quick visit this time around, our little boy loved every moment spent with him bonding with her.

Baby visited his first pumpkin patch in month 8, along with dressing up as a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle (Michaelangelo!) for Halloween – I don’t know what I’d do without my amazing friend Nicole handing me down her two son’s clothing (the Halloween costume and 80% of his wardrobe is from her kiddos).

Month 8 he went to his second birthday party for one of his little Canadian buddy’s first birthday party. He’s starting to know his baby-friends so well, that he’s become quite an outgoing baby. I love seeing him take off scooting (not quite crawling) across the room, or on the picnic blanket, to go hang with his pals he’s known his entire life (lol). Most of us delivered at the same hospital, and have babies relatively close in age with one another.

I bought him some Puffin print pants. ‘Cause you know, gotta represent Newfoundland (it’s the official provincial bird for Newfoundland). Cute hey? They’re a bit too big for him now, but I bought them for him to grow into them.

Loves:

  • his teddy bear
  • any and all food
  • music and dancing
  • his “popsicles” (frozen fruit in a mesh feeder)
  • bath time and his rubber ducky
  • trying to get Alfie’s attention
  • popping onto his knees from a belly down position
  • plays in his crib and does the “downward dog”
  • making a hilarious girggling noise when tired

We’re still loving, and using California Baby products on him (I’m not paid to say this at all, genuinely love their stuff). I’m on my 3rd jar of super sensitive cream with him (not necessarily “super sensitive” for any reason, I just love the subtle natural scent to it). It’s the only cream that has touched his skin post-baths, and I always love to massage it in, and he keeps calm and still when getting his little massages. It’s so sweet. I keep talking about this specific cream in general, because it’s one of my favourite products that they make. Did you know that California Baby has a 100% plant-based lotion now? It recently happened, although was always the main goal of the owner when creating the products years ago. Congratulations to them!

The diaper bag journey begins

Can I really give feedback on whether or not I found the best diaper bag just yet? I’m not due until February so I clearly haven’t a clue what I’ll be bringing in my diaper bag. Seriously clueless at the moment and I suppose it’s different for everyone. For me, I’m a pretty minimal packer — but would that make sense when baby comes? Don’t they need their diaper changed 18 times a day? An exaggeration perhaps, but I suppose one really needs to be prepared rather than having too little diapers might not be the best thing. Plus most of these listed below don’t have those fancy insulated pockets for bottles (or whatever else goes in those) nor changing pads to lay out. You can get that after the fact, right? Help!

Either way, I’ve come to the conclusion after carting our pup Alfie around in airports (I mean, he’s kinda like a kid, right? I meaaaann… he needs similar attention!) that I’d rather have a backpack for a diaper bag, than anything slung over my shoulder, ready to drop when I reach down to pick the baby (or Alfie! Lol) up. Ya know?

There’s definitely a whole slew of cute backpacks going around, especially at the affordable shops like Target, and even Asos. I’ve been on the hunt for some unisex diaper backpacks for a while, mainly because I know my husband will be carting it around too and I don’t want it to be too feminine for him.

I bought this one on eBay for under $20. It arrived a month or so ago and I’m super pleased with it. It’s silly how expensive some of these diaper bags get, especially considering the one’s I want: backpack style. I want my hands free. Not some bag I sling over my shoulder…why are those popular? Who knows. Maybe I’ll change my mind once kiddo arrives. I’m a bargain hunter, and I hope this one holds up well. It seems quite sturdy, and a nice size.

Plus, it goes with everything right? Including my outfit today?

Wearing:
PinkBlush Purple Floral Knot Maternity Shirt ($31)
H&M Mama Super Skinny Maternity Jeans ($35)
Black Velvet Shoes ($14)
Diaper Bag (I paid $16.25 but it’s now $28? Y tho.)

30 weeks now. I feel like I’m carrying a soccer ball – lol at the look on my face. Also? This Sinful Colours nail polish is $2 and it’s the only white nail polish I use, unless I’m getting shellac done.

This is a cute floral maternity top I’ve been eyeing up for a few weeks on Shop Pink Blush, but I have to admit – it’s quite sheer and is made of a thinner material than most of my items from Pink Blush. So keep that in mind if you plan on ordering!

How our first prenatal class went…

The other day my husband and I drove to our first of many (oh so many) prenatal classes. It was three hours long. This course cost us a pretty penny (Bay Area Life I suppose….) and no wonder they don’t give refunds, because it was dumb. I was hoping it wouldn’t be. But no refunds = we’ll continue to go.

I also maybe embarassed myself a little bit during class since she asked everyone to answer out loud what their favourite thing of being pregnant was.

Me: I love how thick my hair has gotten, omgggggg
Every other gosh darn tootin’ person: Aw, I love feeling baby kicking.

Oops? Guess I probably shouldn’t have answered as one of the first people. But it’s true! I love how thick my hair feels, it doesn’t get greasy, and it’s just fantastic.

The instructor insured us she wasn’t going to get all hippy-dippy on us, but by the end we were all on the floor doing that hee-hee-hee-hoo breathing technique that no one uses during labor. I couldn’t even doing it because my husband and I were laughing too much. Luckily a ton of people in the class were also a bit foolish so we didn’t feel like complete jerks for laughing so hard at….mostly everything.

I made one Black Friday purchase and it was this denim vest from Recks & Relle, a shop I found on the explore page of Instagram. But for this OOTD today on the blog, I added an extra layer – the Shop Pink Blush cardigan which is honestly hands-down the best quality item I’ve received yet from them.

Sure horizontal stripes may make me look wider than what I am. But! I am huge fan of them, and I feel like all I do lately is wear grey, black or white striped tops in this pregnancy, with the exception of a few basic tops.

Debating why I thought it was a good decision to take some of these photos on the floor. Honestly it sounds so ridiculous but it’s quite difficult to get up off the floor – especially in the evenings. Where did my abs go? Why do they only work in the mornings and completely disappear at night? All these questions I have.

Long sleeved tops are my jam right now.

I feel so fancy in my monochrome outfit with my brilliant red velvet shoes that are under $15! What a deal. I even bought a backup pair because I’m crazy like that.

Wearing:
Black Striped Fold Trim Maternity Cardigan ($45)
Target Black non-maternity long sleeved
H&M Mama Leggings (need to be replaced! They are starting to get holes!)
Velvet shoes

Lol pointing to the large and in charge belly, not the delicious iced coffee.

I’m going to see the Nutcracker Ballet soon, and I am totally eying up this Velvet Blazer from Pink Blush, too! I hope it’s on my list of items to choose as an Ambassador next time, eek! :)
