Turning down companies

Just because I do a lot of reviews and giveaways in the run of an average month, doesn’t mean that I’m accepting anyone and everyone who e-mails me. Not everyone who contacts me, makes it on this blog. If you ever have any questions about whether or not I got a product for free to review, I do mention it in my blog post. If not, you can always question me in the comments below. Some of my reviews are even products I purchased myself.

Not every company gets a positive review from me. Vasanti has given me 3 great products to try out from bronzer, to mascara and eye cream. The eye cream made my eyes puff up. I’m just telling it like it is. It was strange though since it was a de-puffing cream, and had 4.5 stars out of 5 with 200+ reviews on their site.

Some PR companies don’t seem that internet savvy and I almost always delete the e-mails as soon as I see Hello Blogger, or just a plain simple Hello. They are most likely getting my gmail e-mail address from the right hand side of my bio here on my website and the third word, I say my first name. It’s a real pain in the arse to see something so informal, especially if that company wants me to help them! No way in the freaking world. You address me just like any other personal dealings. Just because it’s not face-to-face doesn’t mean that it should be addressed otherwise. It shows they did their research if they address me by Nancy, and not by spiffykerms, or hello or hello blogger.

I didn’t write this blog post because of a particular instance. I just want my readers to be able to relate to me, trust my reviews and continue to be a reader of spiffykerms.com :)

Now, off to read about ct electricity! Bye :)

Marcelle BB Cream recap

I’ve tried out the Marcelle BB Cream that I got to review from the company a few weeks ago. While my first impression post had me wondering how often I’d really use the product. It definitely through me for a loop.

I’ve been using it every single day on my face which has completely replaced my Laura Mercier moisturizing foundation and I’ll tell you why.

My skin has been acting up ever since I got back to Ontario from Newfoundland over the Christmas holidays. It’s been very sensitive, dry and I’ve had a few flare ups around my eyes making them puffy! Marcelle products are one of the few items I can use on my face comfortably without it acting up. It’s hypo-allergenic, which is why I wasn’t afraid to use a new product by them.

In fact, I use my (oops I bought oily by accident) Marcelle makeup remover to remove the BB cream at the end of the day.

The Marcelle BB cream as I stated in my first impressions post was basically sold as a primer, foundation, and moisturizer all in one.

I have been moisturizing before I apply my BB cream and then applying one full pump on the back of my hand and using a sigma kabuki brush to apply it all over my face.

At first I thought the Marcelle BB cream would be like a tinted moisturizer. But it applied in a fuller coverage than that. It didn’t feel as thick as a foundation. I never realized until then, that my regular foundation from Laura Mercier was thick and heavy on my face. I suppose I was just used to the feeling after about two years of wear with it.

The Marcelle BB cream feels like my own skin, just like any tinted moisturizer on my face would. But it’s different and I don’t get it. It has more coverage. It looked like my own skin when I blended it in, and I didn’t have to use much of the product. The one thing that annoys me about this product is that the pump sometimes gets stuck and squirts out hardly any product and I have to face it away from me for fear of it getting on my work clothes.

I don’t know whether it’s because I simplified my makeup routine in January or if it’s the new Marcelle BB cream, but in the mornings after I get out of the shower and moisturize my face, I feel like I’m not as red and splotchy looking on my cheeks.

Here are three photos of me getting ready for work this morning.

Left-to-right:

1. No Makeup.
2. Moisturized then Marcelle BB Cream on top.
3. Eyelashes curled (taking a break from mascara) then bronzer, and blush added.

The Marcelle BB cream photographs a little light I’ve noticed which is kind of a pain. I honestly didn’t think I would like this product as much as I did, and I’m surprised that I’m using it every day. I do feel that I still require some bronzer and blush to make my face not look as flat, where as the Laura Mercier foundation, I don’t always need to do that.

The BB cream only comes in two shades, and I presume I was sent the lightest one but I can’t be sure. But I’m definitely pleased with this product, it even made it into my Skin Saviors post, and I’m definitely going to use the entire tube of it.

Marcelle BB Cream

First of all, what is BB Cream?
It’s a moisturizer, primer and foundation all in one. BB Cream has been quite popular for a few years now in Asia. It was advertised that you can use just the BB cream on your bare face and skip any other steps in your routine. I received a Marcelle BB Cream lab sample from Marcelle to try out.

It comes in a pump/squeeze bottle format. The 45ml bottle retails for $22.95 and comes in two shades. It came out in a weird squirt the first time. But here it is rubbed into my skin a smidge. I took a photo with less product on my hand and rubbed it in. But since it blends well into my skin, you couldn’t tell I had any product on my hand when it was rubbed in. Which is ideally what you would like on your face. It had a bit of a dewy look to it as well.

Personally, I have dry skin and wouldn’t skip my moisturizer with sunscreen. The reason why I wanted to try out a BB cream was because it gives a dewy look to your face, and I’m one who likes that effect. A moisturized, healthy look to the skin like my Laura Mercier Moisturizing foundation does to my skin. I do not have oily, or acne prone skin so I’m not sure how well this will effect those skin types and how long it will last on the face.

I was first introduced to Marcelle products when my neighbor back home in Newfoundland mentioned that I should use it since it’s non irritating due to it being hypo-allergenic. It’s great to use on my skin since I’m prone to eczema in the winter time. My eczema moves around, and this year it’s in the most annoying place on earth my EYELIDS. I use Marcelle products on my face to cleanse off my makeup with either their cleansing milk, or the gel which I now have at home.

In a week or so I’ll do a followup post on how I liked the BB cream, how long it lasted, what the coverage was like and so forth. But for now if you’d like to read more about the BB Cream on Marcelle’s website, you can do so here.
