Ways to hydrate your body naturally

Hydrating-headerAlthough summer is almost over (let’s not talk about it). I still think it’s important to talk about hydration, even leading into the autumn months. Included in the post will be healthy, easy recipes for those to recreate on a hot day (or… a cool day now that we’re heading into fall). But let’s be real, I feel like California is super hot well into September-October.

It’s obvious that drinking water is a great way to re-hydrate your body. But sometimes it’s great to have alternatives. Here are my 10 beneficial ways to achieve your glowing healthy skin, and here’s to a more hydrated body!

pressed-juiceryPressed Juicery //
Cold pressed juices can be drank as a meal replacement, a juice cleanse or as a snack. There are tons of varieties of Pressed Juicery juices to choose from. My favourites are the Strawberry + Apple + Lime combo, or Citrus 1! The chocolate almond one is such a nice one to drink too, kind of reminds me of chocolate milk.

cucumber-radish-saladCucumber Radish Salad //
This is a light refreshing salad with a bit of kick to it, thanks to the radish. I’ve been making this a few times per week this summer, for lunch, since I don’t want to be cooking too much in the heat.

Ingredients: Cucumber, radish, feta, sprinkle of dill. Optional dressing: lemon juice, oil & vinegar, garlic.

watermelon-saladWatermelon Salad //
There’s nothing easier than a watermelon bowl is there. This one is yellow! I had never seen a yellow watermelon until I spotted it at Trader Joe’s last week! I think it tastes different than regular watermelon. Just eat a whole bowl full, or grab one of Pressed Juicery signature watermelon drinks.

Ingredients: watermelon, feta (or mozza!), olive oil, lime juice, salt & pepper.

Acai bowlAcai bowl //
We have been making acai bowls every single weekend this summer. It’s a healthier alternative to icecream, and is just as satisfying.

Ingredients for acai bowl (for 2): 3 Sambazon frozen packets, 1 banana, ½ cup frozen blueberries, a handful of fresh strawberries, top it off with a splash of milk (skim).
Ingredients for topping (for 2): 1 chopped up banana, chopped up strawberries, granola, and coconut flakes.

zero-waterPurified water //
You should start with clean water when hydrating. ZeroWater is the only pour through device/pitcher NSF certified to reduce lead and other heavy metals. It also eliminates TDS (total dissolved solids). Although I have no problem drinking refrigerated California tap-water, Scott says he tastes something different in it. So, now we’ve switched to using our ZeroWater filter.

diorHydrating face masks //
Although eating and drinking liquids is best, it’s always nice to pamper yourself with hydrating facial masks too. These mini Dior pods I bought from Sephora are great for 2-3 nights in a row. Apply as a mask, or keep on overnight, your face will feel so soft!

What are some of your tips to keep hydrated?

Thanks to Pressed Juicery, ZeroWater, and Sambazon for teaming up with me so I could present this post to you.

Dior Addict Lipsticks: Skyline Collection

DiorAddict-HeaderI’ve worn Dior Addict Lipsticks for a little over a year, but I didn’t quite fall in love with the formula until I realized something that might sound a little weird to you guys.

In January when my father passed away, I was flustered with myself that I didn’t have a nice lip colour to wear to his funeral. Rummaging though my Mom’s makeup stash that I’m forever donating to, I found a Dior Addict lipstick in the colour SMILE. I’m not superstitious or anything but it was an awesome coincidence at such a sad time.

That colour smile is part of the permanent collection in the Dior Addict line. It’s my favourite colour, I always bring it with me in my purse and I always think of my Dad when I apply it.

So, I get a little grin on my face when I open a new Dior parcel and it comes with more Dior Addict lipsticks to play with.

What to pack in a carryon

carryonheaderBack in July you might have noticed I was on a few weekend getaways. One was the trip to Oregon, another was exploring Japantown San Francisco, and thirdly my husbands 7th Ironman triathlon race (spot the brown delsey in the trunk!) . I have to admit! I’m kinda glad things are settling down a bit more. Whoowee.

delsey-suitcaseThe most questions I received about any of my trips, was, where are your suitcases from? Whether it was from friends on social media, or stewardesses on airplanes. They all loved and raved about our Delsey suitcases!

delsey-and-magI had always intended on bringing one carry-on luggage and now I’m going to show you how to pack lightly for a three-day trip. Tips, tricks on how-to lighten your load, and packing your items practically.

I prefer to keep like-items in packing cubes so you’ll see a reoccurring trend here.

epi-pen-and-allergyTech gear + Allergy Pills
Items such as my vitamins/allergy medication, epi-pen, my phone and camera chargers, and extra SD cards will be transported in one packing cube.

liquidsLiquids
I have been doing this ever since my Mom started packing my bags for me when I went away to camp, and I’m surprised how often it’s not shown on blogs. Either people don’t know about it, or they forget to show it. But it’s a must-do when I travel. Saran wrap the caps of everything. Nothing ever leaks out of my containers when I seal the travel-sized jars with saran wrap prior to packing. I also like to pack my liquids in my carry-on last, because you’re going to need to take it out anyway at the airport.

makeupHair + Makeup
My hair and makeup products aren’t sorted into a packing cube, but they are still contained into the one area via a makeup bag. I try to bring as little as possible with regards to hair/makeup. Travel-sized items are the way to go, and that way you can almost guarantee you’ll use up most of the products during your travels, thus lightening your load on the way back home. My stowaway cosmetics, drybar goodies and mini lancôme products came in handy.

Fossil-PursePre-boarding/In-Flight Essentials
I like to carry my valuables with me at all times. I used my Fossil Emi Saddle Bag to carry my passport, IDs/cash, and my phone. That’s all I need, give or take a magazine or two which I bought at the airport. I have a mini muji notebook, with 2 hair elastics and my bobbi pins stuck to it. You don’t need to bring a whole slew of ’em!

Clothing
I brought 2 pairs of pants, 3 tops, and 2 dressy blazers for the dinners. Everything I brought complimented each other so I could wear any article of clothing together, and they’d match. Last tip is to roll-roll-roll! I find that this saves the most space and allows for extra items for you to bring. I didn’t need that much, but rolling my clothing into my suitcase is second nature, so I keep doing it.

delsey-whiteYou might remember this Delsey suitcase in a gorgeous champagne colour from December when I went on a trip to Palm Springs. I also have it in a nice light chocolate brown shade too. Mr. Spiffykerms was actually the first one to take our nice white carry-on on an airplane, and now that I’ve reserved (the same style: Delsey 19″ Chatelet) his brown suitcase for him, it was my turn to use this one first. Heh! DIBS!

carry-on-and-purseI don’t often do quick trips, since the only places we really travel via airplane is right across the North American continent, back home to Newfoundland. I’m not the lightest packer by any means but I have learned a lot from reading packing light blog posts from other friends.

delseysDisclaimer: My Fossil purse, and the Delsey luggage were both sent for review.
