Tubbs Romp to Stomp

snow shoesThe first and only time I ever snowshoed was in grade six for a school event. That was way back in the day when they used the snow shoes that looked like tennis racquets. I never really had the opportunity to go again, nor have I really thought about it as an outdoor sport during the winter. Whenever I think of winter sports, I think of downhill or cross-country skiing, snowboarding or sliding down a hill.

tubbs-snowshoesBeing the naive person that I am, I thought that snow shoes were still made out of wood, until one time I went to an outdoor adventure store a few years ago asking my boyfriend: what is that?!  Boy, have the snow shoes come a long way!

My cousin Natalie who works at eventSing hooked me up for this wonderful fundraiser in Collingwood which is happening in February, and eventSing promotions inc is supporting Tubbs Romp to Stomp event. Ten years ago, Tubbs Snowshoes created the Romp to Stomp Out Breast Cancer Snowshoe Series®. It’s a 3k snowshoe race, or a 3k/5k snowshoe walk for men, women and kids.

2013-registration-now-openThere’s even some pretty great prices for the top racers, fundraisers and best dressed team. If you’re interested in going, you can sign up on their website. All the links will be at the bottom of the blog post.

I’ve been invited to go along with the boyfriend! We’re going to make the drive up to Collingwood the morning of and do the 5km walk together. I can’t wait to take some photos and blog about it after the fact! I’m super excited to get out there and enjoy the crisp winter’s day in February. So much to look forward to this winter.

Stay active my friends!

My five resolutions for 2013

I’m not one for making resolutions. Mostly because I’m a secretly-pessimistic person. Instead, I’ve changed my tune and decided that it’s due time I make some New Years resolutions. 3 days late.

Take more vitamins
I’m feeling more lethargic than I have in a few years. I haven’t been regularly taking vitamins in 2012. So I went to Walmart after work today and bought what reminds me of senior citizens… a pill box. If the pills are stuck in a drawer somewhere, I’m not going to see them – therefore won’t take any.

daily-vitaminsHopefully this will keep me on the right track. Vitamins shown: Palafer (Iron), B12 1,000mcg, Vitamin D and docusate sodium. I think that the B12’s need to be taken on their own or it will lose its effect.

december-2012-scheduleKeep organized with a schedule.
I don’t always meal plan, and I don’t always keep a workout schedule. This isn’t ideal for me, since if I don’t have an agenda I’ll just sit on the couch for the entire night reading blogs or watching beauty YouTube videos and end up cooking supper at 10pm. Not the best for my health, but I agree that one sometimes needs a break. Just not a two week long one. Oops?

Waste less.
Meaning, don’t go all hog-wild in the washroom using 16 hand towels to try my hands with. I can’t stand having water droplets on my hand walking down the cold hallway at work. Which makes me aggressively dry my hands. When I really only need 2-3 towels. lol This is so random… but I know I use way too many.

Be clutter free.
I don’t need to have a back up of everything I use. It’s just nonsense. Right now I have a few hair dryers (which were actually free with some points … but still!), and an abundance of beauty products that will take me for ever to get through. Each time I fly home to Newfoundland, or open up a beauty box at work – friends and family members get the most of it.

desk-clutter(Believe it or not, this is my “cleaned up” desk)

I also like to have a clean desk. But this is never the case at work, or at home. I work better when the area I’m in is clutter-free.

Learn more.
Sure, that’s vague. But I mean this in the every day life. Learn to listen more. Learn about my new camera. Read more online that will help develop my Graphic Design skills more. Not just daily blog posts, which are fun and mindless too. But it doesn’t help build.

Have you made any 2013 New Years resolutions? Let me know them, in the comments below!

Vitamin talk

A few weeks ago I asked you guys to come up with some FAQ questions you’ve been DYING to know about me. Looks as though only one person really wanted to know anything about me. That’s cool, makes it easier to answer! haha. So I’m breaking them all up into segments and different blog posts.

First question:

Candi asks: Do you take vitamins? I know what works for you might not work for me but I always wonder because doctors don’t know everything and many times I had been given bad advice. Is there anything you cannot get through the day without taking?

My answer:

I actually don’t take any vitamins at all. I know I should be planning for my future. My Boyfriend takes a few in the morning, and some more vitamins at night — so he’s always suggesting I also do. But I’m so forgetful, which is no excuse. I really need B12 and Iron supplements, which I took for a few months at a time but they’re so hard on my body (especially the iron). I’ll have to start incorporating more into my routine. If I did start taking them today for instance, I would take:

  • B12 (1,000mcg)
  • Iron (palfer is the brand – but I usually get the “store brand” since it’s roughly $6.00 cheaper)
  • Vitamin D (great for your blood, and bones and immune system!)
  • Vitamin C (helps tissue + bones grow and repair itself, and it’s great to take to prevent *and treat* the common cold)

I don’t eat a lot of red meat (no beef or steaks + rarely hamburgers). I wasn’t, and still am not anaemic. But I was “dangerously low” in iron, a few years ago when I got a check-up with my family doctor.

I also drink a lot of milk (think two large starbucks mug’s full, or a beer pint) with my supper each night. I love milk with my meals, and I’m so glad my body is still fine with it. I know a lot of women cannot digest it when they’re older.

Do you take any daily vitamins?
