Raising Readers

If there’s one thing we do a lot in our home, it’s reading. We’re raising readers over here and we’re regulars at the library… often checking out 20+ books at a time, so building a love for reading has always been important to our family

Recently, I was introduced to Read Bright, and I’m really excited to share this program with you, especially if you have early readers at home like I do. Read Bright sent us a generous package to explore, and I’ve been using it with my 5 and 7 year-old boys. (I requested two sets to avoid sibling conflict).

What is Read Bright?

Read Bright is a structured literacy program designed specifically for children who are just beginning to learn how to read. It focuses on foundational skills like:

  • Phonemic awareness (recognizing and working with sounds in spoken language)

  • Phonics (connecting letters with sounds)

  • Vocabulary development

  • Fluency and comprehension

The program is aligned with research-based practices and is perfect for preschool, TK, Kindergarten, and early elementary-aged children.

Since Read Bright has this program with lots of books in their set I thought it would be a great introduction for my almost 5 year old who is in TK so this came at an ideal time as the books are at the right level for him to start sounding out words and recognizing patterns in language.

The same set I have for my 7 year old who is more fluent in reading, but I got that other set for him since he enjoys having quiet time and going through stories himself.

And as a bonus for educator.. If you’re a teacher or school administrator, Read Bright offers free sample kits so you can try the program before committing. That’s a great way to see how it fits into your classroom or curriculum.

Warm jammies and chillier mornings

If you’re a fan of loungewear that’s super cozy and comfortable (okay I mean, who isn’t). Then let me introduce you to the brand Plain Jane. I’ve heard of them before, but hadn’t tried them out til I received some in a goodie bag when I went on my Mom’s Retreat weekend this past January. I’m now the proud owner of two identical pairs of black jogger lounge pants. One will be in the washer and I won’t have to miss out on wearing my favourite pair to bed, because I now have 2. You can totally wear them out of the house – I’ve done it!

They recently launched their new Fall-Winter collection and I’m here for it. Let’s get on with the cozy season, warm jammies and chillier mornings. If you want to take a peek or purchase something, I have a coupon code (SPIFFYKERMS) for you to use. It’s always active, but if you shop between now and October 6, my discount code will give you a greater discount on your purchases (since we’re promoting the new launch and all). Shop away my dear friends! (and p.s: these are the lounge pants I have – and they’re on sale woohoo!)

Watch me cook thanks to Marley Spoon

Real life no fake influencing over here. Showing the in’s and out’s of trying to cook supper in the kitchen with either the 3 boys squabbling and me breaking it up trying not to burn supper, or them at my feet. Anyway! Made some Marley Spoon meals (it’s a meal kit subscription box) and I HAVE A CODE FOR YOU TO USE. Use code SPIFFYKERMS to get a discount. You can either select from pre-made meals (so easy, should’a done that) or make it yourself with all the ingredients in one box (which is what I chose but none the less….equally as delicious). Here’s the first two meals I made, watch the vid! #ad
