Capitola Beach

I have so much to talk about and tell you guys that I want to blog 7 days a week. I think that’s a little too much, so I’ll spread it all out, even if I’m a little behind.

Our friends from Guelph Ontario are here on vacation as they have family in San Jose. The Guy and I ate out at Chevy’s Mexican restaurant with them the other night, and on Wednesday I went with them and their two cute little girls to Capitola Beach.

We arrived around 11am and the beach was completely empty, and gusts of wind chilled us a little.

Capitola Beach, California, Bay Area, NorCalKinda reminded me of Newfoundland… due to the wind. :)

I wore my $8 jeans from Forever 21 (lightweight) and a tank top, so I was pretty comfortable.

We all hung out on the beach, building sand castles (I seriously nearly typed snow forts?!) and dipping our toes in the Pacific Ocean, then squealing and running away when the waves would catch us — it was chilly!

A few hours later the beach became busy with surfers (can you spot them?!) and people laying down on the beach.

It was hot enough at that point during mid-day that people could wear bikini’s and lay in the sand which was as soft as flour. I wanted to bring some home with me. But then I remembered I’m no longer a tourist, and I can probably go any time I want to grab some sand.

To be honest though I kinda wished I brought a plastic baggie so I could take some for my plant. Ha ha.

After grabbing some pizza for lunch, re-applying sunscreen, the kids went back to the beach with their father and my friend and I browsed around the little town and shops of Capitola.

St. John’s Helpful Shop! For those that don’t know, I’m from St. John’s, Newfoundland so it was pretty awesome to see that!

We spent over half the day in the beautiful town then finally deciding on grabbing some ice cream. Or our case, Gelato, from this amazing authentic Italian gelato spot in Mountain View called Gelato Classico. I’ve been there twice already, and the gelato is just tremendous with unique flavours like Honey Lavender, Green Tea. I usually stick to my old fav, Chocolate Hazelnut. Luckily, it’s not too far of a drive from where we live.

When’s the last time you went to the beach?

Do you prefer beaches, or mountains?

What flavour ice cream or gelato do you go for?

Highlights of my weekend

One of my new co-workers came into my office the other day, from one of the other branches and she commented on this one painting I had hung in my office that I did in 2011. Back in December she ended up asking me if it was for sale as it would look good in her little baby girls bedroom. I didn’t want to sell it then — but after a bit of thought, a few days ago I e-mailed her asking if she was still interested in purchasing it and I sold it to her! What do you think? I haven’t painted since I did this last one in 2011. I miss it, I need to start up again.

The Guy got a new pair of Mizuno Wave Prophecy 3’s. The three’s are a new launch for 2014 and he’s super excited to use them. He doesn’t have a gym membership and he sure doesn’t want to take them out in this blizzard we’ve got going on all week, so hopefully he can test run them soon. mizunos

Over the weekend I went to visit my Mom’s Aunt in Guelph. This is a picture of a picture that we took at her daughter’s house in November. There she is featured in all her glory, online! shirley scott nancy

Guelph Target, Powdered peanut butter, what else?

What’s this silliness going on here right now. Blogging on the weekends, wha?

I know. Who am I. Good morning, by the way… readers! I need your help – I’m looking to change up my comments section so that there’s an actual reply button instead of me going in and editing each individual comment to say “Nancy says: … and I type my comment here“. I DO read each and every one of your comments but I find it to be a hassle to edit your comment, with my reply. Get what I’m saying? So, I want to fix that.

What is your Sunday looking like? I’ll tell you what. I’m being a bit lazy right now because I’m driving over to Guelph later on because I really want to check out Target and that’s the only one that’s open around my area right now, so I’m excited to see the hype. Even though I know the store kind of isn’t the greatest since some of their brands aren’t in. But I don’t care. I want to see and perhaps judge it for myself. I may take pictures. We’ll see :)

Remember yesterday I was telling you about me going paleo for thirty days next month? Well, did you know peanuts are not paleo? They’re not technically nuts. I know, crazy right? Who knew. Clearly not me, til my CrossFit coach informed me. I don’t love peanut butter anyway, but the Boyfriend does (and will not be participating in paleo with me, because he already eats way more healthy that I). But I thought this PB2 product would be of interest to those who like the peanut butter taste.  It’s gluten free as well.

Basically PB2 is grounded up roasted peanuts with 75% of the fat removed which is now in a powder form. You add water and it gives it the peanut butter consistency again. It even comes in a chocolate peanut butter form. Yum! Kind of reminds me of something astronauts would use, really.

When my Boyfriend and I go grocery shopping together (hours long trip. Yes, that was plural. Yes, it tests my patience) we both look for food that is nutritious but also low in calories, sodium and sugar. He reads those labels, not me.

I personally have yet to see PB2 in stores around near me, but I’ve seen them frequent the heathy living blogs that I’ve been reading lately. Have you guys tried it? What do you think of it?
