work

Working at the new Credit Union branch, is a lot more modern and so much more stuff going on since it’s close to the two universities, it’s in the same building that I joined a gym at (not anymore, waiting until January to get a better deal $$$), there’s been charity BBQ’s each week since there is a handful of large tech companies in the vicinity.  There’s even a dentist office in our building. The mall is just two express bus stops away (about 15 minutes) so if I’m running low on eats for lunch, I’ll dart over there. Also, the bus ride to work now is only 11 minutes. No more two buses and 55 minutes of agony in the morning. I’m definitely not the person you should talk to in the morning.

The best part? Google is upstairs.

I just got the tour yesterday because one of the girls came downstairs to the Credit Union with a box of chips. Yeah, potato chips! For us to polish off. They used to throw the bags out because the ‘best before’ date was past due and they just … chucked’em. Now we get them!  Since it was my 4th day at the branch and I had never met this girl before, I got so excited — because I mean, who wouldn’t after receiving 20 bags of chips? I was also given my choice of some swag. I received a super soft blue google t-shirt, a pretty purple pen and some sticky note’s that says google on it. *sigh* I love that place.

Oh. I also went to a U2 concert in Toronto on Wednesday. We had floor tickets. I didn’t get many photos but here’s a few that I took while Bono was performing. Second concert I went to (ever, in life lol) and both of them were free from the company my Boyfriend works at. The company bought 25,000 tickets to hand out to staff and family. Score! Last (and free) concert was Van Halen last year or the year before. Bono’s show was pretty good. Since we were on the floor, at times it was difficult to see him sing and dance everywhere. I ended up watching the huge TV screen for a lot of it, but then I tried stopping myself from doing that because… it’s a live concert, I don’t want to be watching the TV of him — I want to see him for myself with my own eyes. He wasn’t too far away from us either, I would have estimated about 100 feet away. Some of the shots I took are of the TV screen since I only brought in my blackberry for fear of my camera being confiscated, and a blackberry isn’t the best for zooming in on a person 100 feet away.

I ended up doing a somewhat impulse purchase out of my visual wishlist that I had sort of been wanting for a while. But I never purchased from their site before, so I was kinda hesitant on sizing. But as soon as I saw it was on sale, I ended up buying it. Not too sure how long it’ll take to arrive, but I’ll be patient and run after the mail lady here at work on a daily basis :)

Wow. Lots of news.

I test drove a private sale Acura RSX during my lunch hour yesterday. The power steering on it was difficult, but took a bit of getting used to. Color? Black (awesome). My thoughts? I think I’ll still wait it out for the Mazda that I’m so set on.

HAPPY FRIDAY! It’s the weekend!

So long colleagues

branch2

After two and a half years of commuting to work via public transit (wretch: 2 busses, 1 hour, each way) I am moving to another branch at my Credit Union. It’s all very exciting and I got to work at the other branch a handful of times in the past, but this time it’s permanent. I will be cutting down 50 minutes on my commute, I can sleep in, the washroom facilities are only steps away rather than in a completely different building. It’s in a much more moden, and well … brand new building since staff has only been in there four months prior to me being hired.

I found out on Wednesday that I was to move. Of course I was given the option to stay, but who wants to commute a whole two hours in a day, without a car, in the blistering cold winters? I surely don’t! So, of course I accepted it. This means that I’ll be a lot closer to my Boyfrrien’ds workplace / 15 min walk (hooray, lunches together!) and the gym that I used to go to is in the exact same building!

When I first got hired I was given the tour of both branches and while I was there, I took some photos of the branch. These photos are roughly two years old but nothing has changed except perhaps the decorations. Name has been blurred out for obvious reasons.

There’s a handful of people I will surely miss. Get this: the ceo, my boss, and a co-worker. That’s a rareity right? Who misses their boss? Well — I for one, will. I’m really close to the three people I just listed and I’m honestly myself around them and we can give each other our honest opinions. For example, if the CEO (who I assume is around 60-65~ish) is wearing a silly sweater vest, I tell him exactly what I think of it. He may get offended for a second or two but snaps back at me with a great hilarious remark about my hair being wild that day, or something. So, it’s really a good connection what I have here at the ‘old branch’.

The CEO & my boss comes up to the other branch a couple of times throughout the month to check on things. However, the third employee that I will miss, does not. He’s like a father figure to me. Dad away from home type thing. I decided to break the news to him first, before any e-mails went out to the staff. Coincidentally it was his last day in the office as he was heading out for vacation to Newfoundland — and is going to meet my parents!! hehe! Anyway, I thought he’d take it fairly easy and be all fatherly-like and say “Well done yourself!”, which he did, don’t get me wrong. But before all that, I just immediately closed his office door, sat down and was like (cue: slapping my theights with my hands) “Well! I’m moving … to (insert branch name)!” I’m not one to be subtle. I just came right out and said it. Of course he was shocked. It was so unexpected!

3. Upstairs: GOOGLE!

Staff flew back into our offices as soon as an e-mail from my boss letting everyone know the news, was fired out. People asked me if 3rd employee was alright with it (aww!), and if I was happy to be going there. I didn’t want to be in the office while the e-mail was being sent out because I knew staff would come back and ask what happened and if everything is ok. Which it is, fine. And that did happen. I was a bit hesitant though, after I saw 3rd employee’s reaction. It made me well up a bit, since I saw him get teary eyed. I truly am his work buddy. He’s the man that picked me up from my apartment when it was a blizzard outside, and drove me home in the thunderstorms during the summer months. We usually say a quick hello or just sit in each others office for 4 minutes max, and talk about our weekends. I’ll miss that guy!

Truthfully. I’m extactic. I’ll be doing the exact same job, just not in the back of the office alone. I’ll be out front with all the member services representatives. I’ll get to hear what’s going on and become a better designer as I’ll get to see what exactly the member needs.

Today was my first day.

Shortn’ sweet

And just like that, I’m back in Ontario like nothing has changed.

Unfortunately this trip to Newfoundland was an unexpected one so it wasn’t exactly a vacation time per say. I probably shouldn’t have even told anyone I was going to be home because I was there to spend time with my parents. It wasn’t a time for socializing that’s for sure. Let’s just not get into details, shall we? This is a fun blog and not a serious one about what’s going on in my life, even though some times I’d like to tell you all exactly what’s going on and spill my guts. I’m just not that type of person, I’m quite private and it probably won’t be happening on this blog. lol. That’s that then.

I ended up flying out of Toronto on Wednesday at midnight and flew back this morning. I’m running on two hours sleep at the moment, and on top of that — after a full day of work I have to go to my dentist and get my filling replaced!

I don’t know when I’m going to be able to get something to eat (besides lunch) because my mouth is totally going to be frozen.

It’s funny, every time I visit back home the weather is total garbage, guaranteed. No matter the time of year I go, it’ll always be RDF (rain, drizzle and fog) and holy, was I ever freezing my BUNS off! It was a bit ridiculous for the middle of the summer. I didn’t end up wearing any of my shorts, and I always wore socks — who wears socks in the summer!? Not I obviously, I actually had to go buy some at Zellers which I doubled up on my feet and wore them inside a pair of leather shoes and since it was raining … they ended up dying my socks and looking totally mental. Well, that was a waste of my Mom’s money.

I did end up buying a couple of things at one of my favorite Canadian stores — Winners. I will perhaps post photos when I get everything together. Exciting!

Well, off I go — back onto the regular mundane things in my life. Have a great Tuesday all!
