This weekend was so much FUN! It wasn’t until mid-January that I noticed on my Facebook wall that my summer co-op student from 2012 was in San Francisco for a four month work term. As soon as I saw his status update, I knew we had to meet up when The Guy and I moved down here to California. Saturday was the day and I made the trek by train to spend the full day with him, exploring and giggling, and full on catching up — because holy moly I didn’t realize. We haven’t seen each other since Christmas 2012! Way too long.
It was the easiest train ride ever since it didn’t take too much navigating and it was quite inexpensive compared to Canadian costs of commuting. I only paid $18 for a day pass, where as Canada, especially on the Greyhound bus it cost $30+.
Patrick is such an outgoing guy and has a fantastic personality. I’m already planning another trip to San Francisco to see him one more time before he departs back to Canada in April. Put two of us together and you’ve got some loud and hopefully not too obnoxious people having a blast.
We walked around a little bit before we decided to grab brunch, being all touristy.Side note, palm trees are officially my favourite trees ever.
Alright guys, I’m back with the internet and I’m ready to blog again!
But where do I even start? It’s so difficult to jump right back to where I left off but I guess that is what the plan will be. Keep checking back each week day as this will be my plan – to continue blogging Monday through Friday, beginning with the adventurous road trip from Waterloo Ontario Canada, to sunny Northern California.
If you’ve been following me on twitter and instagram these next few posts may be repetitive for you, but if not — keep on reading.
We estimated our drive to be 40 hours, by the calculations of google maps. What we didn’t know was that it was going to take closer to 60 hours to do the drive, due to the fact we were towing a 17″ u-haul with a trailer on the back, where my car was. We did the drive in 3.5 days rather than the 5-7 days we were initially going for. As you can imagine, we were driving non-stop on the second and third days/nights, swapping seats and getting sleep in the passenger seat.
We said our goodbye’s to the Waterloo apartment that served us many good times and years at that place.
Our plan was to avoid the winter weather altogether since U-Hauls are known for having bald tires and getting trapped in the snow. Instead of taking the i-80 across the USA, which crosses over some wintery states, we opted for the more southerly route i-40 which took us from Michigan, Indiana, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, to Arizona and finally California.Â
We aren’t too far from the Michigan boarder crossing, and since it was open 24 hours, we made it in there at 4:00am. Clearly we left Ontario late in the evening. I have to say, it’s pretty intimidating having your whole life packed up in a truck and having the boarder crossing guards decide whether or not to let you have an American visa for a few years. Right then and there they decide whether to turn you around, or let you into their country. When we arrived the boarder crossing was pretty much empty due to the hour we arrived at, so it didn’t take too long for us to have everything done there. Quite honestly, my knees were trembling while I was waiting for them to go through the process with us standing there in front of them. I couldn’t get my legs to stop shaking. The guys working the night shift were making a few funny jokes to us, and broke the ice a little bit. Perhaps he saw a terrified look on my face and decided to take action.
Once leaving the boarder, we thought everything would go smoothly from here. However, the boarder crossing was the only thing that went smoothly throughout the drive. When you look back on it nothing went terribly wrong but at the time we were down in our spirits. Close to 22 hours of being in the vehicle and losing just HOURS of precious driving time (sleeping at rest stops and going to Walmart to get a sim card for our phones took up way too much time) we ended up calling it a night when we arrived to Indiana and arrived at the Clarion Hotel in Terre Haute around 9pm the first night.
Tons of sleep later we woke up, ate a huge breakfast in the lobby. Scott and I took turns eating solo due to the fact we had Alfie and didn’t think the dog-friendly hotel would enjoy dogs being in the eating areas of their hotel. We were absolutely famished in the morning, and the woman in the kitchen made a funny comment to me when she saw my plate filled to the brim now empty, saying I was small but could pack away the food. Sure can missus. I was starved b’y. Come back on Wednesday and I’ll fill you in on the details of day two.

I’m all for not blogging when I don’t have anything to say, hence the lack in posts this week.
I was too much of a wuss to stand outside in the snow this week to take my outfits posts, and too hyper to remember to take them in a full length mirror at the bathrooms at work. I’m sure you all really care. So instead, I’ll be posting random bits about my week. Yay!I put my bra on upside down earlier this week. I thought it was going to be “one of those days” but I still ended up being quite the character this week. Counting down the days until I leave for Newfoundland. We’ll be on an air plane soon enough!I had 3 peppermint white mocha’s from Starbucks this week. #PeppyMoXo‘s get in my belly! Already there folks, already there. When I’m not drinking peppy mo’s I’m drinking tea out of my Santa mug that I picked up pretty much for everyone on my list this year. They’re adorable. Like my “christmas” (more like bridal) nails?
Earlier this week I went with The Guy to watch him at his master’s swim class. I didn’t realize how boring it would be watching people swim. So I took selfies, naturally.
I wore my McDonalds oversized tote as a purse. It’s way too big to use as a purse. We whipped out Alfie’s winter coat out of storage, finally. He’s wearing a Canada Pooch jacket (that I reviewed a while ago). He does flips and rolls around in the snow with it on, it’s both adorable and hysterical at the same time.
Earlier on in the week, we gave him his semi annual bath. It was a team effort, despite his little size. He wasn’t squirmy but I would rather have four hands go at him, than just two. I scrubbed him down with some dog shampoo and once I wanted to rinse him, I got The Guy to hold the shower head while I rinsed everything out. Then of course we couldn’t not document his drowned rat look. I forget how tiny the little guy really is. He has SO much fur.
We also went to McDonalds for supper the other night. Mmm.
God help me… or this child. But I’m now a god mother! Amazing right?
She’s the daughter of a long time friend of mine. We met in Grade 9. Remember her? She’s the one who was moving back home (to Newfoundland), from South Korea and I met up with her in Toronto of all places between her move.
She had her baby on Wednesday and the little sweetie didn’t wait until I was home so I could visit the trio at the hospital. She was officially due on December 26, but she came a little early. Look at her sweet little chunker cheeks and her little lips.
I need to get a photo of me holding my little buddykins when I go home. Cannot wait to see and hold her. Allyson is the first of my friends to have a baby! I saw Allyson again when I flew home for Thanksgiving.
One more thing — I don’t have many guest blog posts going up on my blog while I’m away over the Christmas. So I want to wish you now, a very Merry Christmas and I’ll see you in the New Year!!!
p.s. I may pop in from time-to-time while in Newfoundland, but it’s doubtful. Follow me on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram for some real-time updates.
p.p.s: Check out my friends blogs if you want to read some posts over the holidays. I won’t be updating, but they may?!
