I feel like IÂ haven’t truly sat down in ages and told you what we’ve been up to. I’d like to think the lack of blogging meant that I’ve been having the best ol’ time, with not much computer time, and that I have.
Pop on my red and white outfit for Canada Day, then a few days later add a bit of blue to the outfit and you have my Independence Day outfit. Celebrating our second Fourth of July here in America was pretty wicked, I have to admit. I ended up doing a 4th of July vlog on my YouTube channel and in case you weren’t aware I upload them every Monday and Wednesday!
For the week I am reviewing the Mazda CX-5 crossover SUV and so we took full advantage of my husband having a four day weekend and using the review-car’s mileage to explore California a bit more, with just the two of us in tow.
So, let’s play catch-up on our weekend together. It’s been a long time since we haven’t had visitors on a holiday/vacation day for my husband, so it was really nice to be able to spend the time with him, solo.
On Thursday, the Mazda CX-5 was delivered right before lunch and we immediately hit the road just moments after having the keys handed over to me.
I drove us both up north to Vallejo to go to the Six Flags amusement park to ride roller coasters until we got ill. Seriously, I cannot handle it any more. It’s not even the fact we went on spinny rides, because we totally didn’t. I think my stomach simply can’t handle the cork screws in some of the rides. Needless to say, I definitely had to sit down for a good half hour at one point to let things settle. Call me stubborn, but I didn’t let a little nausea stop me from havin’ a good time at the amusement park! I also didn’t realize Six Flags is somewhat of a zoo (literally speaking) because we saw penguins – they are tiny little fella’s, and some stinkin’ cute too man.
As per usual, a good recovery food after a long day at the amusement park, calls for a feed at McDonalds. Hooboy! So tasty.
Friday morning my husband had a cycling-date set up with a friend of his in Santa Cruz bright and early in the morning.
Rather than him getting up at 6am to bike down there, I offered him a ride. Alfie came along with us this time, since I wanted to take some photos of the new vehicle I was in for the week, and of course stop at the Mitchell’s Cove Beach, the off leash dog beach again.
Admittedly, Alfie is getting pretty comfortable with being on this beach as we’ve got a number of times already (see the YouTube video of us, our first time visiting), so he was prancing and marching about bossing all the humans and dogs around. I’m not sure if people were fed up with him barking, but I certainly wasn’t havin’ him bark the entire time, so I ventured off into a more quiet area of the beach and let him calm his nerves.
Such beautiful views! I love this place.
Since my husband was going to be in the Santa Cruz area biking for a good 6+ hours and didn’t require a ride home, I drove back up to Santa Clara area and decided to check out the Santa Clara University campus for the first time. I’ve driven past the school many times, but haven’t stepped foot on their grounds.
So what better time to explore, than on a holiday weekend when school is out and there isn’t much foot traffic. You can see more photos of the campus in my last Pomeranian Friday post.
On 4th of July I then drove us to San Francisco to check out the Madame Tussauds wax museum and then watching the foggy fireworks, we popped into Boudin to warm up our bodies. Because what a chilly day you guys!
I feel like San Francisco in July can be awfully chilly if you’re not dressed for the weather. Think, Newfoundland weather forecast — you can expect any type of weather any time of day, and that’s the same with The City.
Have you guys ever been to a wax museum? My husband hadn’t before this trip, and I remember going to the London England one back in 1998, but the only wax figures I remember spotting was the Beatles, I suppose — it’s that long ago. But it was really fantastic checking out this one. I am going to take a while guess and presume that they rotate their wax statues to keep people coming back. Because, when I searched the #MTSFSelfie hashtag on Instagram, the beatles, and other Lady Gaga statues were there too – that I didn’t end up seeing. So I’ll definitely have to go back a second time in a year or two, to see what else they have on display!
Been about a month since I really sat down and blogged on a daily basis. Frig b’y, time flies don’t she.
After flying home to Newfoundland for a few weeks and getting my first black eye of my life (my nephew did it accidentally when I was teaching him to skim rocks in the pond) I came back – having the next day be my birthday …Â a big one. Number is old, I’m not ;), and the day after that having two sets of visitors overlapping each other, a long time friend, and my sister-in-law! My SILÂ just left, and we spent the day in San Francisco on her last day here. Of course we had to hit up Ghirardelli Square and go into all of their shops in the square and get free individually wrapped chocolate samples. Score x 100 when they’re you’re favourite flavour. Hooyeah. I was told I wasn’t allowed to put our photo together up on Facebook and tag her, but I wasn’t told to keep it off Instagram, heh heh. Here’s our selfie together at Ghirardelli Square after eating ice cream. Yummo.
So I thought it’s due time to get back to reality and update you guys on what’s going on in my life. I mean, if ya wanna know and all. Spose ya do, if you’re here right?
The weather has been kind of crummy here in California as of late. I told my friend to pack shorts – because: California. She was cold the entire trip. Don’t blame her. Up in Canada it was way hotter than it’s been down here the past few weeks. For those that speak celsius it was about 15 degrees here and 30+ in Ontario. Regardless of that, we still had fun gallivanting through Northern California, checking out everywhere from Sonoma, to Carmel and everywhere in between. Those posts will be coming in fast and furious, but I don’t want to just blog about that – more beauty posts will be coming (I’m doing them every Tuesday) and more Pomeranian Friday’s to come. Have you missed our little pup?
Having a few weeks off blogging felt good. I’m back in the groove of things and have a lot to talk about, a lot to share.
I also went shopping. A lot. While my friend was here. I saved up all my dolla dollahs and splurged on many items that were on my wishlist for YEARS. Maybe I should do a little haul. But here’s a little look-see.
I made bagels!!! Then the next day I made bread.
Bagels (half batch was blueberry and the other half was garlic + flax seeds) turned out wicked good with the help of my friend. Then I was left alone to make bread. The recipe was so confusing to a newbie bread maker such as myself telling me to do something with 8 cups of water. So I added said cups of water to my batch. Then it turned to soup. Threw it out, and quickly googled an easier recipe to follow and made two successful loaves of bread. I didn’t get a picture because the bread was gobbeled up so quickly. Maybe on my next batch I’ll snap a picture. The recipe called for me putting a pot of water underneath my pizza stone while the bread cooked, and since I knew pyrex sometimes blows up in ovens, I decided to use a bread pan with 2 cups of water in it and it worked out perfectly to steam the bread and create a perfect crusty crust.
This post is going to be all outta whack and over the place. Just like my brain is. Not sorry.
I’m also a teensy bit jealous that my old job and co-workers in Ontario has created a blog (and I’m not there to blog with/for them). My ex-coworkers and still, close friends… are so hilarious. So check them out.
OH! How could I forget! There are multiple Newfoundland blogger’s + Youtubers out there that I found online since being back here in California. Well here, check them out when you get a chance:

I’m wondering how many more of yee are out there. I want to meet all my Newfoundlander buds.
I have so many fun reviews too. And don’t skimp over that simply because it’s a review you know. I hope you can trust my opinion, because there has been many a time where I’ve been brutally honest about products I’ve been sent.
Speaking of sharing. I went to Los Gatos today and grabbed an iced coffee and sandwich after my Doctor’s appointment after reading some reviews on yelp at this hole in the wall type of coffee shop – I’m definitely going back. They have this blended espresso drink (NOT on the menu) called CPR. The man serving me told me it’ll bring me back to life. HAHAHAHA. I haven’t had more energy in my entire life. Hence, I guess this huge long blog post that I should clue up now. Guess that means so-long until I blog next.
I’ll be back tomorrow. So check in again then :)
When I studied Textile Studies straight out of High School, my Mother was going to the same college for Graphic Design (which I later attended). Conveniently, one of our Art History classes were combined in another building. So for a semester, my Mom and I were classmates.
We always had a little friendly competitive streak in us. So we started studying our 7lb Art History book together. Yet somehow she always got better grades. That Mom-brain of hers, she’s some smart, I tell ya.
My husband is huge on museums even more-so than I am, so we checked out the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum and it was a fantastic way to start our weekend. Although we didn’t get to explore as much into detail as we wanted, we still got to have a good look around for a little over an hour. It’s worth a visit, especially if you’re interested in Egyptian times since it houses the largest collection of Egyptian artifacts on exhibit in western North America!
But fret not! I actually went back to visit this place a second time, but explore the outside grounds with my lil’ pup Alfie! I didn’t realize it was so done up, with many plants and statues until I was told by one of the guys from Team San Jose that I should check it out. Go on over to that blog post if you missed it, it’s really beautiful, and some kid mistook Alfie for a CAT. HAHA.
Right now I’ll take you through a series of photographs (photo heavy!) of the inside.
The piece I’m standing in front of is a cast directly from a mold created from Merenptah’s tomb in Egypt.
Probably my favourite little mummy at the museum. It was a fake mummy of a Baboon to fool people from stealing it (as they usually would). You’ll have to visit to find out the whole story behind Baboons being mummified.Â
This little statue of Standing Sekhmet started the whole Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum here in San Jose. You can see she is wearing on her head that she wears a serpent and the solar disc.Â
Beautiful statues. You may recognize the mummy tomb on the far right, it’s King Tut.
A bull head, a cat and even baby crocodiles were mummified.
This was an early dynastic coffin was  was no more than 4 feet wide and made of cedar wood since the mummification process had yet to be developed. People were buried in this wooden box, in the fetal position as they were put to rest. Couldn’t be comfortable for them, but I suppose they wouldn’t know, since they had passed on.
Now onto my favourite part of the museum, the cave where tombs would have been buried!
It was huge inside. I could imagine myself being a little girl, freaking out not wanting to explore this cave. But as a grown adult who knows better — it was super cool.
Towards the end of the first level. To the left is a set of stairs.
Sneak peek of the room the tomb would’ve been buried in.
I have to leave some stuff up to the imagination. So all I’m showing is what was on the walls. Beneath the floor in this section, was a huge dug-out where a tomb would’ve been buried.
Of course there is so much more to see than what I photographed. But I don’t want to ruin it for anyone who comes to visit. I mean there’s a couple of creepy mummy inside, too. But I don’t want to scare anyone. I could’ve stared at it for a while, but I can imagine it being freaky-deaky to so many people. Even while I was going through the photos to edit them for the blog, I had second thoughts on adding them in here. So if you want to see them for yourself, you’re going to have to come here to visit! :)
