The Birthday Convertible

Although my birthday was a few weeks ago, I can’t help but smile at how awesome (yet simple!) it was. All I wanted to do was have a convertible for a week and cruise the town. And we did just that.

The shiny red convertible, Mazda MX 5 RF was “ours” for the week. But since there was a bit of a mishap with scheduling on the vehicle I ended up accepting the manual transmission one and then handed over the keys to my husband (with the company’s approval). You know that not only made his week, but made mine too since I got to be, well quite literally chauffeured around on my actual birthday haha! Best kind isn’t it!

On my birthday, as mentioned I had no other plans other than to relax and spend the day driving with Mr. Spiffykerms. We cruised down the California coastline on the scenic PCH (pacific coast highway). We stopped at a coffee shop in Santa Cruz that I found on yelp, and drank iced drinks in the sunshine.

It was flippin’ glorious and honestly one of the best birthdays I’ve had to date. Mainly because my husband was finally relaxing with me (I have no trouble relaxing lol) without a schedule or a plan in mind. We stopped at a beach, then continued exploring in the MX5, obviously with the top down at all times. A sweet taste of convertible life for 7 days. My goodness.

After trottin’ all over, we started filming some drone videos (see the video at the end of the post) right before sunset. Finished that up, and drove to a Mexican restaurant for some nachos (I’ve been craving Montana’s Nachos from Canada since for-ever… I can’t seem to find a tasty plate of nachos around here at all! lol).

And that’s it! The birthday adventure, with Mazda. :)

Because I’ve posted it a dozen places all over the internet already, it might be overdone. I still wanted to include it in this blog post though. The drone video! Although I said I had 20+ minutes of footage, there was definitely a lot more, I just roughly cut the clips and ended up with 20 minutes to cut down to a 59 second video. I thought it was neat. My husband did all the filming, and I edited the video together.

2 Things I Bought at Sephora VIB Sale

As many beauty enthusiasts know, the Sephora VIB sale happened at the end of April. I’m VIB Rouge, and I’m not entirely sure how that happened. I’ll probably go back to being a Beauty Insider in 2018 with the rate I’m not spending on beauty products. Also? I’m a little ticked that VIB Rouge received the same discount as VIB folks. Y tho? We spent much more to get to that status, and get nothin’ more. Needless to say I’m a bit ticked — and I wasn’t going to purchase anything from the sale but I knew I wanted that Tom Ford product that just launched, so I bit the bullet and did it. The Tom Ford Clutch-Size Lip Balm in L’Odissea is mine.

Then I did it again. 1 more order for a black BeautyBlender sponge. Because a day or two after I placed my first order, an e-mail came in from Sephora mentioning my birthday gift was available. The Tarte Blush in the shade paaarty (and lipstick, which is great but the blush is A+) is amazing and I’ve been wearing it every.single.day. Every other blush pushed to the way-side. Good goin’ Tarte. I like it. It’s peachy and purdy and conveniently tiny. I love anything tiny/travel sized beauty. I want a store to open that only sells Sephora mini’s. Wouldn’t that be neat.

I even thought about purchasing another shade in the Tom Ford Clutch Sized Lip Balm when I was in Bloomingdales in San Francisco the other week. Except I was a bit taken back by the sales associate trying to make his commission. So many eye-rolls. “This colour would like great with your eyes.” Okay dude, great — I know, blue eyes are wonderful I get it. Just leave me be so I can swatch all-the-lipsticks on my hand to decide lol. /endrant.

Did you buy anything from the Sephora sale last month?

Five Things Friday . 004

01. SPECIALIZED TRIP|

From Tuesday til Thursday I stayed in Palo Alto at Garden Court Hotel with Specialized Bicycles. It was to promote their new bicycle, the Turbo Vado. Most of you know by now, that I’m an ambassador for them and have been working with them since late 2015. It was a rad trip, and a nice little getaway even though I only live 20~ minutes away, haha! There will be tons of fun photos and a post coming up soon. If you followed along snapchat/instagram stories you would’ve gotten a behind-the-scenes look at what we were doing. An awesome few days that had me beat right out when I came home!

02. DRY SHAMPOO|

Did you know philosophy, one of my favourite skincare companies has a dry shampoo out?! Has anyone tried it? I spotted it not too long ago, forgot about it, then saw it again on Ulta’s website. I’m thinking of getting it to try it out. Don’t forget to use ebates when you check-out anywhere online! I’m still using my Aveda dry shampoo regularly, and it’s fantastic but sometimes it’s not quick enough for me when I want to go to bed. Although I’d reach for this far more often than I’d do an aerosol spray, sometimes when you’re tired you just wanna spritz the heck out of your hair and not take time to lift sections etc. So that’s why I like to have both types on hand at all times.

03. PACKING LIGHT|

Anyone interested in seeing a blog post about how I just brought a backpack with me for a 2 day trip? I mean it’s the lightest I’ve ever packed and might’ve definitely had to tetris-pack my way into making everything fit, but it did and I was some happy about it! Maybe I should pack this way for my upcoming trip to Portland at the end of the month. Yeah buddy you heard that right — I’m heading to Portland Oregon, and yes I’m totally meeting up with my best pal Megan! You know it.

04. BITE BEAUTY|

I received a few Bite Beauty lip pencils the other day and I’m excited to start swatching these. I noticed they look almost identical to each other just looking at them, but swatched they’re completely different. Like always, I’ll do a YouTube video along with a blog post on these. Eeeeee!!

05. MILANI|

I received a PR parcel from Milani Cosmetics, and they sent me quite a few items but I wanted to hone in on my favourite things from them thus far. I’ve yet to try their incredibly popular luminoso blush. I need to grab one at Ulta soon. Milani Baked Bronzer (in my hand) gives a natural subtle glow and works to give me a glow when I have self-tanner on, and when pale gives off this warmth. The Milani Retouch & Erase Lite Lift Concealer is an incredibly brightening concealer, doesn’t stay on for ages, but is great for under the eyes. And finally, the Milani rep + Set + Glow Illuminating Face Powder is great too. Although I don’t love to set my face with powder products every day as I prefer a dewy look, this almost mimics the hourglass ambient powder in dim light that I grab for a lot.
