Vegan treats and sleeping at IKEA

So how the heck was your weekend everyone?

I was so glad to finally meet up with my friend Steph (who blogs over at Lunges and Lunch) on Saturday.

I picked her up at her place and we went on a road trip to Burlington! Steph had told me about Kind Food, which is this Vegan and Gluten Free (am I supposed to be capitalizing those words?) restaurant and she had me intrigued. So off we went.

The first things I noticed when walking inside the door were the insane amount of cupcakes available.

Dee-rrrrishiousssss.

I ordered the B.L.A.T (Vegan bacon, lettuce, avocado and tomato) only because I wanted to say BLAT as many times as possible inside the restaurant, and giggle uncontrollably like an immature child. Nobody else found it as funny as I did however. Shame.

My teenage self is astounded at my palette changes throughout the years. Everything is gluten free dude. Even the bread!

Stephanie ordered a roasted red pepper soup with some other fancy stuff in it too. The floaties are sweet potato. I think.

Of course we couldn’t leave without trying the amazing desserts Stephanie was raving about. I ended up grabbing the Mile High Brownie. Apparently the sweet treats weren’t made from any refined sugars. I know nothing about Gluten Free/Vegan eating, so this was pretty neat to me.

Oh dear, documenting my first taste at the dessert.

SUCCESS! I loved it.

It was so light, but so good. It tasted like a real brownie would. I ate half since it was fairly large, and saved the rest until I got home and devoured it immediately. Oops.

Stephanie ate a snowball for dessert. Er, I mean a coconut cupcake.

She asked if she had anything on her mouth. No. Not at all I replied, with a straight face.

Then it was time to leave, and do a bit of shopping at Ikea. But first, a photo op outside Kind Food!

Of course whenever I head into IKEA, I’m like an American inside a Target. I can’t leave without spending like a hundred bucks. Am I right? It’s okay, I knew it was bound to happen. I only had planned on getting a lamp, since mine caught on fire. No biggie. We won’t get into that.

We tested out so many (of the exact same) couches. Hey. They were pretty comfortable at least. As they should be for six hundred smackaroos.

Many…

Many couches..

And even taking naps in the IKEA beds. I always smile in my sleep. Don’t you?

Wow, was I really asleep that long?

Who are these people? Why are they in my bedroom? I mean..the IKEA showroom…

But wait, we must blog about our adventures. There’s always time for blogging, right Steph?

She’s gettin’ on it!

Look at her playing those games. She’s so smart at “Memory”.

It’s never a dull moment when I’m around Stephanie. I need to remind myself to wear waterproof mascara when I’m out in public with her. She always makes me laugh til I cry.

I ended up buying just four things. What  I went in for, a lamp…which of course didn’t come with any bulbs. How could I have forgotten. Silly IKEA.

A rolling pin, straws, and another laundry hamper. Love their $5 laundry bins!

What did you do this weekend?

OOTWW

Oh boy. I woke up on the wrong side of the bed today. I’m a little cranky this morning, but at least it’s FRIDAYYY. Maybe I’ll wake up more by googling top testosterone boosters, haha. I mean, hello muscles in the morning. Can’t get better than that. Right?

Okay bye guys, that’s all I have to say. Enjoy what I wore to work this week.

My ebay purchases, rated…

Remember my ebay finds back in March? Well all of my items have finally arrived and I’m rating my ebay purchases for you all! I’ll be talking about the quality, and whether or not it’s worth to buy the item itself on ebay. I may continue to do posts like this, if it’s beneficial for you all. I’ve made some recent Etsy purchases, and a few more ebay items. Either way, see the rest of my post below.

Seller: ccclothcc
Item: Rabbit Fur Knit Cardigan
Paid: $18.99 + $8.99 shipping. Worth the price? No. But I’ve negotiated on my second item purchased with her, see below.
Location: Hong Kong
Delivery: 11 business days from when I placed the order, to when it arrived. Order placed March 5, arrived March 19
My opinion: I thought it was a little more luxurious looking online than in person. In person is has more of a peach tone to it rather than the grey-white one that it looks like, online. The material itself is quite soft, and the fit is accurate. Just wish the color was a little more flattering. None the less I really do love the piece and am debating buying the red cardigan as well.
Overall rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Seller: ccclothcc
Item: Orange Color Mix Pattern Top
Paid: $10.00 + $2.00 shipping. Worth the price? Yes (as I negotiated the price).
Location: Hong Kong
Delivery: 9 business days from when I placed the order, to when it arrived.
My opinion: It’s not super cute in person. I dislike the vibrancy of the orange, thinking it was more of a nice coral shade online. It’s wearable for summer. The sizing isn’t as accurate as I had thought. It’s off the shoulder on the girl to the left. The fabric is a really soft cotton and the fit is great on me. The arm cuffs would be tight on someone bigger as they’re snug on me.
Overall rating: ♥ ♥ ♥

Seller: auysfdesign
Item: White cotton batwing sleeve loose tops
Paid: $11.88 + free shipping. Worth the price? YES NO
Location: China
Delivery: 13 business days from when I placed the order, to when it arrived.
My opinion: The quality of the tee is like Forever 21, and I’m afraid the stitching on the see through part of the arms are going to eventually undo from the rest of the top. Overall if it had better stitching I’d give it 5 stars because it’s such a flattering piece on the body. Though, I may order more because I really do love this top.
Overall rating: ♥ ♥

Seller: greentea212
Item: Celebrity Hollywood Star Women Leopard Pink Soft Scarf
Paid: $13.74 + free shipping. Worth the price? Yes
Location: Hong Kong
Delivery: 27 business days. I don’t know why this one took as long as it did, it was annoying waiting for it as it was my first ebay purchase out of all the ones shown above (and below)
My opinion: Nice basic scarf, a little different looking with the two patterns on it. It’s not the most highest quality, I’d say similar to H&M.
Overall rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ (Didn’t get 5 stars because the price was just “ok” and it took forever to get here)

Seller: upoct-01
Item: Black Cool Big Skull Cotton Womens Long Scarf
Paid: $0.15 + $4.99 shipping. Worth the price? Yes
Location: China
Delivery: 31 BUSINESS DAYS. It said it’d take 18-29 business days but I was getting worried and by day 30 I contacted the ebay seller letting them know I had yet to receive it. It of course, came the next day.
My opinion: It’s a nice scarf. I’m debating saving this for my oldest nephew (P.s. I have 4 nephews lol…also, hope he doesn’t read my blog) for Christmas. Because I think he loves skulls.
Overall rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ (Only because of the slow service)

Justin Timberlake and Justin Bieber

Alright. So I don’t think Justin Timberlake is the be-all end-all. In fact, I never had any sort of a crush on him at all. But I do love his music. When he did make it.  Why did he quit?

Justin Timberlake. Make music again!

You know little baby J-Beib’s new song? Boyfriend? Doesn’t the intro sound exactly like it would be Justin Timberlake’s voice? No? Let me refresh that memory of  yours.

Fast forward to 30-35 seconds in. Totally Timberlake. But it’s not. So confusing when I’m enjoying the song, singing along and I’m like omg I love JBeibs song. Which isn’t an issue at all. It’s just. Odd to me. Because I didn’t really find his songs all that catchy. More teeny-bobber typ eof music. But this Boyfriend song of his, has me noddin my head in the car and singing out loud.

Believe it or not, this post isn’t about music. It’s about Justin Timberlakes new interior design website called HomeMint. It hasn’t launched yet but I think I’m going to like it. Doesn’t necessarily mean I’m going to buy anything from the site. Just oggle at it. Plus, if you sign up now and join the VIP list, they’ll give you a month FREE – a $9.99 value.

Nuts right.

Sign up folks!

MaeMovement

I bought three of the most adorable bracelets from a jewelry maker last night when I first discovered their site. Talk about spur of the moment buys.

Anyway, I wanted to show you guys what the bracelets look like, online. I hope they fit my miniscule wrists when they arrive. Bracelets are usually 7.5″ long, for a regular sized wrist. Mine, was measured not too long ago when my nephew was 3. It was the same size as his.

So! Here they are. Beauties, right? These are the ones I purchased: Deep Red, Aqua, “Fusia” (Fuchsia?)

Buy them on maemovement.com.

I’ll let you know what they look like in person, once they arrive.

Budget time

I don’t always use coupons when I shop. In fact I haven’t used coupons in over six months for stuff. I think it just falls by the way-side and gets easily forgotten about. Plus I’m not that organized with them, they’re always in an envelope and it’s annoying to cart them around. I’m not the best for hunting out deals, and when I do it’s usually just toilet paper and razors. Those never go bad, and you can never have enough lying around.

Saving money isn’t just about using paper coupons in stores. Whenever I do online shopping, which is more often than me shopping in real stores, I try to scope out as many coupon codes as possible, find the best one and use that on my purchase. With Alfie, our Pom – we were recently looking into getting him new nail clippers and scoping ot the Petsmart coupons 2012. When I was up visiting my relatives over Easter my cousin mentioned that there’s a new type of nail clipper that senses the blood or the cuticle of the nail, so it’ll blink red or yellow if you’re getting too close to the nail bed. It’ll blink green when you’re good to go. I think I need that because I almost always cut at least one of Alfie’s 2000 little nails when trimming them. Poor guy. He fights me when it’s time to do it, and even now knows the words “Getchur nails cut?” he runs away and sometimes pees on the floor because he’s so scared. TMI. Sorry. This isn’t what this post is about, hee…

The website I’m linking has tons of Geek Gadgets and Coupon Promo Codes 2012. It’s not just about coupons though, you can go there to get news and info about the latest gadgets. They post a ton each day and the post are pretty entertaining to say the least. So, basically they save us – the consumer money, so we can afford to buy more fun things for ourselves! Go ahead and check out AbeBooks coupon code 2012 for instance.

Where do you go to get promotional coupon codes?

Inexpensive jewelry at Ardene

Remember the quick little post I did yesterday morning? I showed these bracelets in one of the pictures:Who knew the junky jewelry store of Ardene would have some stylish pieces?

I always forget to go into that store and resort to online shopping when looking for some fashionable inexpensive jewelry.

My co-workers and I went out to the mall during lunch last week and I picked up all of these bracelets: 3 for $10! I think the purple one on my wrist is my favorite. Cute for summer right? And if they break they were $3.33 each, so no biggie! The three shown in the middle with the silver beads were all in one package so it counted as one piece. Sa-weet.

Molly Shannon moves at Girls Night In

My co-workers and I got together for another girls night IN (this time) over the weekend. We went to Julie’s house!!!

It was so fun, we had a dance party in the basement, went out for pizza for supper and the girls drank! I wasn’t mis-behaving this time though, I still had evil hangover memories of the previous girls night out.

Playing around at the Liquor store. Being the loudest and most sober one’s in there. I haven’t browsed around the LCBO’s in a while, because some of the (new to me) vodka bottles are shaped like perfume bottles! So pretty, lol. We found the wine/spritzer called  “Girls Night Out” that my cousin bought to have with Easter Dinner just a few weekends ago.

Some of the girls. Mostly Julie’s cousins. Can you spot Julie? hhaha I won’t show the blonde 80′s mullet wig I was wearing. I’m thinking my co-workers may keep that photo in hiding to embarrass me in the future :)

Dance party skills in the basement, put to work. Molly Shannon get those moves on! (Remember I dressed up like Molly Shannon for Halloween?). Love that leverage.

Hope you guys had a wonderful weekend as well! I love girl nights.

I’m off to research this thing called squarespace review, for my website. May see some ch-ch-changes.

Boca Raton Architects and my artistic background

My artistic ability has been engrained into me ever since I was a young kid. I guess I shouldn’t really say engrained since I’ve always had a natural knack for it and loved being artistic. I remember saying in grade school when I was under the age of ten that I’d love to be an artist, or a kindergarden teacher. I’d still love to be a teacher of 5 and 6 year olds, I love kids so much. So maybe when I get bored of my day job, being a Graphic Designer— I’ll eventually go back to school. How can anyone get bored of my job though? I draw pictures all day long ;)

My Father is a retired Architect so I’m positive I get it all from him. He’s so particular about certain things, and has these odd quirks that rubbed off on me. Growing up he used to look at a set of stairs and count them out loud as we were going up. Maybe it was something to do with helping me with my poorest subject: math. Or maybe it was because that’s just how he is. He always counted how high building stories were, when we were outside, or counting windows. I see myself doing the same thing now and it kind of bugs me, because your eyes go wonky after certain floors and you have to re-count. lol.

I used to go with him on outings helping him measure things for homes and buildings he was designing. I loved being his sidekick and using the chalk string marker and pulling the blue string and slapping it against the wall, as he made his pencil marks ever so lightly on the walls.

So it’s no strange thing that I love looking at Architecture, and beautiful homes at that. I love looking at homes all over the world, and I came across Boca Raton architects, who are these Architects located in sunny Florida.

Check out that gorgeous view in the city of Boca Raton. Who made that happen? Darn right if you guessed a talented architect. I’d show you some pieces my Dad designed back home in Newfoundland, but I never did take a photo of one of the buildings in downtown St. John’s. So maybe you’ll have to wait to see that one.

I can’t wait for the point in my life where I can build and customize my own home. Creating your own personal design with an Architect to help you out can really help reflect the personality you want to show in your home. Everything is yours. It’s not the general contractor’s idea. It’s so very exciting to make those drawings truly come alive.

Do you take after your parents in any way? People have always told me that I’m a lot like my Father (quiet … at first, artistic, his body shape …long and lean, lol). How about you?

Oooo I’m coming for ya, spring!

I don’t care how cold it was outside this week, I decided to wear my spring-summer clothes (Wednesday and Thursday) and loved how bright and cherry the colors were! So fun.

Happy Friday!

Feeding a carb addict

As most of you already know, my boyfriend of almost 7 years is a Triathlete. A hardcore Ironman competitor.

This will be his fourth year in a row competing at Ironman Canada. You can only imagine how hard and long he trains for such an event. Or what kind of appetite he has.

I rarely see him on the week nights as he’s always gone swimming, at the gym on the treadmill, or even on the bike trainer at home. He is constantly on the move.

Fueling up his body for all the exercise he does on a regular basis requires a lot of food on hand to gorge on when he’s finished.

As you can imagine, coming home from a full day’s work, I don’t always feel up to cooking a huge feast every night. When that happens, my Boyfriend usually gravitates towards a snack before we settle down to have dinner. He keeps two quickly accessible snacks to tide him over because he’s like a bottomless pit. Never has a full stomach. The first things he goes for are peanuts, and the second is white bread (often with peanut butter and jam). Both are filling, but the white bread gives him more quick carbs.

I don’t eat much bread in general. I’m just not huge on sandwiches (unless it’s paninis….yum) and if I did, I’d make luncheon meat sandwiches because those are delicious! But we don’t have that meat at home because it’s not the best for you. However, I will never say no to a good ol’ homemade grilled cheese sandwich. The boyfriend is a pro at making those, so on occasion we have resorted to those kinds of suppers when both of us are too lazy to cook.

Dempsters doesn’t only make sliced bread. They make those delicious tortilla wraps too. We always have piles of that at home, because I love making chicken wraps, and especially chicken quesadillas with them.

Sure we have the healthier bread options available to us at home and make other things out of it. But some things just taste way better on white bread than whole wheat. All in moderation, I say. Right? Plus, the reason why the boyfriend picks out Dempsters white bread is because is made with enriched wheat flour. So it’s kinda got a little hidden whole wheat bread disguised in there.

Fun facts about white bread:

  • Over 60% of Canadians think sandwiches taste better when someone else makes them. (Heck yeaaah, get that boyfran of mine in the kitchen and make me a sammich!)
  • Canada’s favourite way to eat sliced white bread is toasted (40%) followed by grilled cheese (16%) and peanut butter and jelly sandwich (14%).

I gotta say, I’m with the 16% who placed grilled cheese first. I’d have grilled cheese over a bitta toasted bread. How about you? How do you eat your white bread?

Dempsters has given me twelve coupons in total for free bread, 2 for me and the rest to share with friends, family members and even you guys out there — my blog readers! So be sure to leave a comment below telling me how you pair up your white bread and how you eat it!

I am a member of the Maple Leaf Foods Connects program. As part of my participation, I have been compensated both monetarily and with free product, however, all opinions and ideas share on this blog remain my own.

Marcelle Mother Load

Last week I mentioned that I was a huge fan of makeup removers. Duh. Since I wear makeup almost on a daily basis, I’m going to have to love a certain makeup remover. I have two front runners at the moment. One being Philosophy, and I recently purchased the largest possible bottle you could ever purchase at Sephora, it was the Purity Cleanser, which is so gentle and mild on my sensitive skin.

The other, being a long time favorite ever since I was first introduced by it from my Pharmacist neighbor back home in Newfoundland. That product is the hypo allergenic brand named Marcelle. Much more easily accessible than Philosophy as you can get Marcelle products at Shopper’s Drug Mart.

Boom. Look at that mother load.

Whenever I find something I like, I tend to buy a ton of it when it goes on sale. Thus, the overload of Marcelle products sitting at home in my apartment half full, some unopened and some empties just so I know what to re-purchase.

I’ve been in touch with a fantastic representative at Marcelle and mentioned to her that I’ve become a Marcelle-hoarder and snapped some photos of my old bottles I had laying around saying which ones I’m a fan of, and which one I’m not. I dislike the gel as I don’t feel like it cleanses my skin well. But I purchased that one by mistake as it said it was for oily skin types.

Apparently I have had some of these products laying around a little too long.  Two years too long. I told my rep what bottle I was using and she couldn’t think of which bottle I was referring too. Apparently the one I was using was a bottle from two years previously and it has since been redesigned. Whoopsies, a little embarrassing. I was wondering if cleansers could go rancid, but she reassured me that they wouldn’t have gone bad. Unless the texture/smell changed.

Um. I’m not sure what the bottle of cleanser was supposed to smell like, so after I took the photos I threw the product out. It was almost done anyway. Thankfully my rep took pity on me and sent over my favorite bottle (the pink one shown) along with a Renforcils eye makeup remover that actually removes waterproof mascara. To be honest, I’ve never tried water proof mascara. Though I should, since I laugh so hard every day that my mascara runs (seriously, it’s terrible). Perhaps I should eventually scope some out and buy the water proof kind.

So, basically the cleansers I was given to try out, work just as well as the other Marcelle products I’ve been using on a regular basis. So no complaints over here. I would suggest to wait for a sale to pick up some Marcelle products as they are a little higher end at about $10-$18 a bottle in the Beauty department at Shopper’s Drug Mart.

Have you ever used Marcelle products before? If not, what are some of your go-to makeup removers or facial cleansers?

This was not a sponsored blog post. Two out of the seven Marcelle products shown, were sent to me for free.

Comparision TopBox, Luxe Box, GlossyBox, Glymm Box, and more!

I’ve planned to make a comparison box blog post for the past number of months. It got delayed as last month Glossy Box launched and I wanted to wait til the second month to review them all to get a fair review of them all. But wait. There is another box subscription. That makes 5 available for Canadians. When will it stop? Now we have Beauty Box 5 which recently launched. I’ve yet to try it out. 5 is just overwhelming and getting a little out of hand. Plus the brands they’re working with aren’t as appealing to me.

First things first. Most of the boxes (if not all) make you fill out a questionnaire at the beginning describing your hair color, skin color, preferences on receiving hair over skin products etc. So of course, not everyone gets the same products per month. Which is the fun part, seeing what everyone got different than you. Can’t wrap your head around why people pay for these deluxe samples? Why won’t we just walk into Sephora and grab a few samples to try out for free?

Almost every box that I’ve subscribed to has at least one full sized product that more than pays for the box itself. Samples at Sephora can be contaminated from everyone dipping their finger in and trying out the sample before you arrived there. How old is the sample? When was the last time they brought out a new bottle? Plus, it’s like Christmas to me, every month — not knowing what’s inside and opening it and being either pleasantly surprised, feeling “eh” about it, or not liking it at all. It’s all trial and error. Which is why I’m writing this (super long) post about it. I’m debating unsubscribing from more than one box. Because at the moment I’m subscribed to all four available which seems to be getting out of hand.

A lot of the boxes are inconsistent with mailing out their boxes. TopBox seems to have it altogether with delivery times, but the other three you can get anywhere within that month. They don’t have a set date as to when they mail out their boxes. It can be a little annoying to wait on it.

Top Box — $10 a month ($11.30 in total, with free shipping). The first month they launched they had everyone lured in with the Deborah Lippman nail polishes. I of course purchased my subscription box as soon as I saw an unveiling video on YouTube. As did everyone else and their dog, since Top Box is now sold out until June 2012. My first box was the December issue and I wasn’t all that impressed. The thing that makes Top Box a bit unique in its own way is that it doesn’t come packaged in a mini-shoe box like the other three Canadian subscription boxes. It comes in a cylindrical tube. Topbox ships on the 10th day of the month so it’s almost always the first one to arrive to my door step. In January, my second topbox was great. There were 4 very large samples and products that I was happy to see: Shu Umera (a very high end product) shampoo, a principessa dry shampoo that I still use and a few others.

Topbox featured me as a blogger on their Facebook and blog back in January. That was pretty neat!

This is what arrived in my March Top Box.

Loose Button Luxe Box — $12 a month ($13.56 in total, with free shipping). Luxe Box was the first subscription box available to Canadians. It launched in February 2011, a few months after the American subscription box called Birch Box that everyone in Canada was lusting after. It started out being just $10 a month and in the spring/summer 2011 they ended up raising the prices to $12 a month. Luxe Box has gone through a few changes with their look,  making it look sleek, and improving the overall quality of the box.

Luxe box claims that they customize their boxes but I honestly feel that when I watch other peoples videos I get jipped and get 3-4 samples where sometimes ppl get 5, 6 or even 7…which I don’t get. In December for instance people got a set of velour lashes which are amazing mink lashes (they’re cruelty free as they are brushed off the mink). I also saw something else that I was envious of in December, but I forget what. I don’t know why but nothing really ever “stood out” to me with Loose Button.

Loose Button has incorporated a “First In Line” campaign where at the beginning of the month before your box gets mailed out to you, you get to pick between a few different products and you’re guaranteed that product be in your upcoming box. It would’ve worked well if they had enough IT support because the site kept crashing and it took me a good hour to log in to actually see what I could’ve gotten. None of the products stuck out that much to me, either.

This is what arrived in my March Loose Button Luxe Box.

You can view my unveiling of my March Luxe Box on my YouTube channel. I love filming these as you can view my first reaction to opening these boxes right on film. I’m an honest one!

GlossyBox — $15 a month (flat rate + free shipping). The most expensive out of the entire four. You do get 200 glossy dot points when you refer a friend, and when you reach 1000 you can redeem those for a free GlossyBox! You are also guaranteed 5 deluxe samples with sometimes a sixth thrown in. I’m not sure why they decided to amp their price up to $15.00 because aren’t all sample boxes generally the same? I don’t know why this one has to be $5 more than the rest.

This is what arrived in my March GlossyBox.

Glymm — $10 a month ($11.30 in total, with free shipping). I have to save the best for last. Glymm is always a safe bet to go for. I always get asked on YouTube, Twitter, or even over e-mail what my favorite subscription box is. It is most definitely the Glymm. I have only been disappointed with one box since they first launched and I’m pleased that they haven’t raised the prices of their boxes like their competitors have.

I always enjoy their Jelly Belly candies they include each month with their boxes. Always something I look forward to. I love candy. Anyone who knows me, knows I have a major sweet tooth, so it was great when Glymm was giving out candy. They had candy for a good 6 months or so until randomly one month they stopped including the goodies for us. Apparently it broke in the mail. I want candy.

Glymm has a shop where if you refer a friend, or even buy a box for yourself you accumulate points to put towards their shop, when you receive your box in the mail a week or two later you fill out a questionnaire giving your feedback on the box. You get 10 points for each item you review. I’ve collected all of these points since the beginning and now I’m wondering what to spend my points on. They now carry St. Tropez products, and I’m torn between that or T3 products which I wrote about here. Glymm also keeps us in the loop with new products being brought into the store with fancy product photos

(see?) and making us lust over the latest trends. Sometimes they offer free shipping too. Not often enough mind you!

This is what arrived in my March Glymm box.

I have already unsubscribed from one box. Being Loose Button, because I found that I didn’t get anything all that awesome in any of my boxes for the past couple of months. I missed out on the velour lashes, and also a really nice perfume package with a handful of perfumes. I had to draw the line somewhere on subscribing to all of these boxes. Four is just way too many. I’m also thinking of ending my other subscriptions because the excitement has worn off and I’d like to save money, because adding up the cost of three boxes per month is a bit much for someone on a budget. I also have an abundance of samples I need to use up which are just sitting around in a bag!

Ideally, what I’d like to see in a brand new launch of a subscription box for Canadians? Let us pick out our samples, each and every month. Sure, I loved the surprises, but now I want to be able to pick out my samples, especially if I’m paying for it each month.

It’s not a road trip until I get lost.

I was not spending my Easter Weekend alone by myself. So I took it upon myself to drive to my Aunt & Uncle’s place who I haven’t seen in years. If you’re wondering where my Boyfriend was at the time, he took a bike training trip down to California for 12 days and only got back last night (and I had to fetch him from the airport once again — I didn’t get lost though!).

On Friday morning I  got my backpack ready, and all of Alfie’s things, and we drove in my car with the ten pages of google maps printed ever so clearly in color, and highlighted certain landmarks when I passed by them.

Beautiful country roads. Didn’t smell like poop either.

I didn’t feel nervous at all driving all by myself, especially not knowing where I was going. I didn’t have a GPS, but those ten pages to get me to my Aunt & Uncles place were helping. The drive took about 2 hours or so and I made it into their city perfectly fine. With one minor error.

I diverted my cousins directions at the very end and ended up going too far North and then looping back down, which was probably 20 minutes or so.

I made it to their city completely fine. Looking for the side street off one of the main roads. I passed right by it and ended up coming to a fork in the road. One road said another city, the right side didn’t say much. So I took it, lol.

My cousin mentioned that I’d be passing by an OPP (Ontario police) station, and sure enough I did. I thought it was pretty large for a station though, my cousin must’ve meant an OPP school or something. Silly her, not knowing what she’s talking about living up there for 20+ years. I was entering a small narrow street with a brown house on the side of the road. Sort of like, if you were entering in a National Park and had to pay a fee. You know those little window-houses things? Right? Nobody was there, so I kept on driving!

I was driving for an awfully long time, and looked at page 10 of my maps and couldn’t recognize any street names at this point. Eventually I made out the name on the water tower that was kilometers away, and noticed it said a different name than I was supposed to be in. Great.

I pull over, and call my cousin immediately. Long story short she tells me I’m past the city and to turn right around. But the thing is, I didn’t realize I was on a one way street and I couldn’t find one of the main roads to get back!

Sweet mother of pearl!! I was on a Military Defense Base and I was literally in the base itself. Apparently the general public, such as myself aren’t allowed in this Military Base, and that brown “house” I passed by was closed for the Easter Holidays, otherwise they would’ve pulled me over immediately and told me to turn around and all of this would’ve been solved so much easier. Damnit, I knew that “city” I was in seemed small. But there was even a Tim Hortons and everything in that city Military Base. Ugh. How confusing.

Clearly I found the way back to the main road but I was still doubting myself. I saw a Police SUV parked on the side of the road. I debated stopping at all or pulling in behind them. But then I was like “omg I better stop and ask.”

I swerved right in front of them (they were parked, remember. Not to worry!) and put my blinker on like I was turning right. But then I was like “Nah, I’m stopped. I should put on my four ways.” (I really hope they didn’t see me talking to myself). So I did just that.

It was 2ºC outside, so I decided to sprint the 300 meters to the police SUV. I slowed my sprint down into a light jog as soon as I realized there were two policemen in the SUV. I noticed the Policeman in the passenger seat smiling and looking at the driver then at me. Most likely laughing at me running towards them with my last page of the google maps. Alright. First impression gone wrong. Our little convo went exactly like this:

Me: So!  … … …(long pause)… I’m lost. *I then nod at them* (Notice I didn’t greet him, Oh hello dear Officer). Aw yeah, I’m calm-cool-and-collected.
Policeman(Military Police): Alright! So where are you headed?
Me: (Street names which I’m not going to type out to the public on my blog lol) with my arms flailing about how lost I was in the base for a good half hour and couldn’t find this main road which we were now parked on.
Military Policeman: He proceeds to give me directions…
Me:  *Thoughts running through my head* I start blushing because I realized they’re hunky and I stop making eye contact because I notice the Policeman’s huge ass arm tattoo and I’m sure they’re laughing on the inside at me racing to their car. OMG I have to make sure my hair isn’t getting wind-blown too much, I mean hello they’re cute. Gotta make a good first impression. They are cops afterall. Damn this city is just like Newfoundland. What’s with all the wind. Why is he talking so much? Just give me simple directions. It’s two degrees out here. Can I hop in the back seat and get them to escort me to my cousins? OMG they’d freak out. That would be SOO funny. I promise I’m paying attention to the policemen, the directions were just so long but so straight forward. I bet he was keeping me around to look at me ;)
Me: Sweet thanks guys! (Don’t you mean Officer, Nancy? What was I thinking lol)
Policemen: Alright, so make sure you see our Military Helicopter on your right when you’re driving out of the base (!!!!) parked on the lawn, and you’re on the right track.
Me: Thanks bye!!!

Then I walk slowly back to my car. No point in running again, even though it was bitter cold and windy. Still. So, of course I made it to my cousins place in one piece. The weekend was full of relaxing, meeting my 1st cousins daughters for the FIRST time.

I haven’t seen my relatives since 1996!

I know right. 16 years! I think it’s because I was always afraid to drive anywhere for fear of getting lost. Well, I’m used to getting lost so it’s not a huge issue. Just flag down a cop and ask him for directions. Easy enough right? If only it was that easy when I got lost in Mississauga at 6am.

I stayed with my Aunt & Uncle for the most part, and then during the day I went to my Cousin and her Boyfriend’s farm where my cousins two daughters also live (duh).

Holy massive farm! They have (I think I have this right): 100 acres.

Horses! A male and a female. The female (I forget her name) tilted her head for some treats!

This male Horse below, called BlackJack and it was moody/shy/afraid of me.

There are tons of cows (19?). All of them… pregnant. By the one bull. Ha ha Oh my. Here I was hiding the Easter eggs on the farm, on Sunday for my cousins girls.

I think my favorite cow was the calf inside, the Jersey Cow. I loved its brown coloring with peach colored ears. Too bad it was afraid of me. I’m sensing a trend here.

My favorite has to be Jenny the Donkey. As soon as I saw this donkey I started laughing at it. I can’t believe my cousin owns a freaking DONKEY you guys. Bahhahaa! I laughed at the human name it was given, and asked why didn’t she just name it Sarah? My cousin said Jenny is the name for a female donkey, like Jack is a male Donkey. Now I know where the term Jack Ass comes from! Sheesh. Makes so much sense now.

Here is S (my cousins daughter) lifting up the lips of Jenny The Donkey and showing me her chompers. Looks like Jenny needs a teeth cleaning! The girls were trying to make her Hee-Haw for me all weekend. Sure enough, Jenny hee-hawed just minutes before I left the barn to drive back home on Sunday.

Baby bunnies were held. Either I can hypnotize them (seriously you can do that) or I was choking the bunny by holding it too tight. Either way it stayed still for photos, and it was still alive when I put it back in its cage. I have a thing of dropping my cousins animals. When I visited her back in 1996, she (didn’t have a farm) had a pet bunny and I dropped it on the stairs. I made sure to hold this little fella for dear life. Oh memories. Here’s its brother. This one was a wiggler. Uh oh.

OH MY GOD. The GOATS! I held a baby goat and the Momma was totally cool with it. Look at us!!! I’m laughing hysterically here. City girl, holding a freaking baby goat and it’s just baa-ing so quietly, and not fighting to get out of my arms. Holy mother.

Hey cool Momma goat!

I even got a chance to walk the Miniature Horse, named Timbit. This little fella was super cute and I even ran with it by my side.

My cousin asked if I wanted a ride ON the mini horse. I can’t say no to that! I squealed a few times in fear which in turn scared Timbit and made him jump a few times.

AAAHHH HAHAHAHA. I’m riding a mini horse. My legs are grazing the ground. hahahaha. You’re a good sport Timbit.

Of course, you can’t forget the barn cats at the barn. There’s three of them. I’m not the hugest fan of cats, but one cat in particular stood out to me. I didn’t snap a photo of her, but I got a photo of her on a mug. Blacky, the one-eyed cat. Omg so strange.

My cousin recently got a Great Pyrenees (basically a White Newfoundland dog) to watch over the house when it gets older. Alfie was most definitely the Alpha Male of the entire weekend. This was as close as we could get the two dogs together. Shawney the puppy on the right was terrified of my Pom.

Here’s Shawney “cuddling” in my lap. Monster sized puppy.

We took Shawney for a walk down the road to my cousins neighbors place (which I’m not a fan of since I was told I was clueless. Ahem. Another story for another day) but here’s my cousin lifting up the pup since she couldn’t make it the entire way. Don’t I look like my cousin? Kinda? Yeah? Our Mother’s are sisters. :) Her daughters think we look-alike. Here they are below:

Before I left to pack up my things at the end of the weekend at my Aunt & Uncles, I needed one more photo. Of my cousins two sweet little girls with no other than… THE DONKEY hahahaha (I’m sorry. I just can’t stop laughing).

I had such a great time over the weekend. Swapping stories like “remember when your brother made me lift up a rock and I got covered in ants?” or “Remember when you made me do this?” with my cousin and tons of laughing at our childhood antics. I was always a beggar, asking my older cousin if I could have her toys, clothes or anything else I liked.

I’m definitely not waiting another 16 years for another visit. I do have a good excuse though. I didn’t move to Ontario until 2006, and then I didn’t own a car til late 2009. Plus, driving in Newfoundland is so much easier since we only have one highway to follow. Getting into all this multiple highway business could get a city girl confused!

Not anymore! B’ys I’ll be up again before you know it! :) Miss you all, already.

I even left with a few souvenirs from my trip. One being this key chain I purchased at the market. A grain of rice with my name on it! He was giving out free samples, I cherished mine. Til I dropped it on the ground seconds later. Then I decided to purchase one for myself.
