I have been far too lax on my workout routine, so much so my tight pants have started to remind me that I need to do more exercising and not just fiddle around at the gym and hope for the best.
The other week I’ve decided to write down my athletics in a notebook to keep myself accountable. If I see a day where I didn’t get the recommended 30 minutes of exercise per day, I don’t beat myself up over it. I just walk Alfie extra long on his business-duty for the evening.
Each week, I’ll do a fitness recap on my blog — Tuesday seems like a good day as any? I’m missing my CrossFit weekly workouts that I used to do. I’m scared of re-joining. It’s been since January since I have done a WOD and I’m just a wuss right now.
I got a membership to Planet Granite climbing (which has CrossFit & Yoga classes!!!) gym this weekend, so I’m heading down there a few times per week.
Alright, getting’ into it. This one will be a little longer because I kind of want to backtrack at my workouts. Then we’ll be back to a regular weekly schedule.
Friday May 16: 2 mile run
Saturday May 17: 3 mile run
Sunday May 18: 2 mile run
Monday & Tuesday May 19-20: Off
Wednesday May 21: 3 mile run
Thursday May 22: Climbing for 3 hours with Ellen!
Friday May 23: 2 mile run
Saturday May 24: Bouldering for 2 hours
Sunday May 25: Hiking up some mountain, for 2 hours in some random city
You may notice I don’t like to run more than 3 miles at a time. In fact, 2 miles is my sweet spot.
After a long long break from running, I can fully run 2 miles without stopping again. 3 miles, no way buddy. I have to stop about 3-4 times in that last mile. Wish I wrote down my times. I’ll do that this week, to keep track. Still definitely nowhere where I want to be. I do recall one of my 3 milers finishing at 31:30, which is not cool in my brain. When I was running with my friend Tanya back in the day, we were running 27-28 minute 5k’s. That’s where I want to be, and I want to start running slower, for longer distances. That’s where my mentality issues kick in. Oh negative talk.
I have a huge love/hate relationship with running.
Then people tell me, if I hate it so much why do I keep doing it? Plain and simple, I actually crave it. It’s easy for me to jump on the treadmill and go — but it’s hard for me to maintain any length of distance. I hate that it’s hard, and I hate that I get so winded after 2-3 miles. So if I truly hated it, I clearly wouldn’t do it, would I? That’s just silly. For instance, I despise biking. It hurts my you-know-what, so I never ever go to spin classes nor do I own a bike. My husband makes up for my lack of bikes though ;)
I’m heading back into the climbing gym later this morning so I can work on getting some strength back. I can top rope more difficult routes fine, it’s just the bouldering strength I’d like to have back, and it’d be nice to be able to do my party trick again ;)
Come back tomorrow, because I’ll be posting something I’ve never done before! Ooo!
I would call this week a success, so far. I mean, I haven’t gotten lost yet — touch wood. Thank YOU blackberry maps.
Tuesday I drove to Los Gatos for an appointment, Wednesday Jessica and I drove to Half Moon Bay, and earlier this afternoon I drove to Palo Alto for a Speck store party.
Being my first blogger type of event, I wanted to get my outfit sorted through last night. Taking selfies, sending it to my friends and husband asking their advice. Anyone else do this? Looking put together on the cheap, was my goal. Is that bad? Saves me the dollars, that’s for sure.
Forever 21 necklaces /// H&M top /// JC Penny brand white jeans
Cynthia Rowley Wedges /// Fossil Purse
I haven’t worn wedges in forever. They were more uncomfortable than I remembered.
Facebook has a community for the local bloggers down here, which I found, and joined. That’s where I received the contact information for Lindsay, who invited me to the Speck event. Hooray for new faces! I’m trying to meet a lot of people, because I’m currently not working, and I want to meet new friends. Bonus if they’re bloggers!
I think I could cruise around in my little car for hours, and embrace the warm sun that California has to offer. The drive to Palo Alto was no exception, just as beautiful.
The Speck Store Party was a private event, launching their new store in Palo Alto. I didn’t know anything about Speck products until I got the e-mail invite just a week prior. They sell a lot of creative cases that are fun to accessorize your iPhone, MacBook, iPad and other cell phones/tablets.
Their cases are heavy duty, yet not bulky, if they’re branded with the stamp of “Meets or exceeds military standards”. One guy there was demonstrating it by flicking his phone across the store, and it didn’t break. Made my heart drop a little! I think I need one of those cases for my BlackBerry Z10. Still representing good ol’ Waterloo.
Speck recently launched a new case for your phones called Candy Shell Amped. There’s little holes on the side of your case where you can freely listen to your music 2x clearer and louder, without it being muffled. It’s pretty nice.
I left with a goody bag filled with all sorts of cases. I’m a little outdated with the products that I use, so I picked out an iPad 2 case for myself and got two cases for my husbands two laptops. I know, he’s spoiled at work.
Speck products are sold at major retailers.
Tomorrow I’ll be talking about living in Canada -vs- USA, so come back for that!
Have you been to a blogger event or conference before?
What’s the weather like, where you are today?
I have so much to talk about and tell you guys that I want to blog 7 days a week. I think that’s a little too much, so I’ll spread it all out, even if I’m a little behind.
Our friends from Guelph Ontario are here on vacation as they have family in San Jose. The Guy and I ate out at Chevy’s Mexican restaurant with them the other night, and on Wednesday I went with them and their two cute little girls to Capitola Beach.
We arrived around 11am and the beach was completely empty, and gusts of wind chilled us a little.
Kinda reminded me of Newfoundland… due to the wind. :)
I wore my $8 jeans from Forever 21 (lightweight) and a tank top, so I was pretty comfortable.
We all hung out on the beach, building sand castles (I seriously nearly typed snow forts?!) and dipping our toes in the Pacific Ocean, then squealing and running away when the waves would catch us — it was chilly!
A few hours later the beach became busy with surfers (can you spot them?!) and people laying down on the beach.
It was hot enough at that point during mid-day that people could wear bikini’s and lay in the sand which was as soft as flour. I wanted to bring some home with me. But then I remembered I’m no longer a tourist, and I can probably go any time I want to grab some sand.
To be honest though I kinda wished I brought a plastic baggie so I could take some for my plant. Ha ha.
After grabbing some pizza for lunch, re-applying sunscreen, the kids went back to the beach with their father and my friend and I browsed around the little town and shops of Capitola.
St. John’s Helpful Shop! For those that don’t know, I’m from St. John’s, Newfoundland so it was pretty awesome to see that!
We spent over half the day in the beautiful town then finally deciding on grabbing some ice cream. Or our case, Gelato, from this amazing authentic Italian gelato spot in Mountain View called Gelato Classico. I’ve been there twice already, and the gelato is just tremendous with unique flavours like Honey Lavender, Green Tea. I usually stick to my old fav, Chocolate Hazelnut. Luckily, it’s not too far of a drive from where we live.
When’s the last time you went to the beach?
Do you prefer beaches, or mountains?
What flavour ice cream or gelato do you go for?
