Why I love Sephora

The reason why I keep going back to Sephora is the great customer service I’ve been experiencing there. I had an allergic reaction to something that I used and the representatives there helped me pick out a handful of samples to take home with me to try out before I spend the big bucks on something. I was in the Sephora store for about 40 minutes talking to, at one point, two Sephora makeup artists. They were trying to distinguish the problem and the reaction I had to the certain product. My under eyes were quite dry at the time and nothing was soothing the dryness. Thankfully it wasn’t painful. I was sent home with tons of high end products to try on my problem areas, which was my under eye. I also got some great tips on how to apply cream to the delicate eye area.

That kind of customer service will always be remembered, and which is why I always go back. I get incredible help, and makeup tips from the guys and girls that work there. There’s a reason it’s one of my favorite stores to shop at, and recommend to people.

My co-worker’s birthday was in January and she is the only person that I currently work with, that understands my love of Sephora. She went into Sephora to pick up her birthday gift and left me know what it was for the 2012 year. Heck yes—a Fresh (the brand name of the product) mini lip balms, and the red one has a bit of a tint to it. Last year when Sephora wasn’t around in my city I headed to Toronto in early April, a month before my birthday and asked to get the Birthday gift then. It was a bottle of Philosophy’s Birthday Cake (vanilla) scented body wash. I’m not the biggest fan of anything vanilla at all, so that was given away. But this year’s, is definitely a keeper for me.

You do have to be a Beauty Insider to receive this freebie on/around your birthday. It’s free to sign up and you get a point for each dollar you spend at the store. Upon checkout you can redeem your points for something extra. The 100 point perk lets you choose one of three samples when you check out online or in store. Or, rack your points up for the 500 point perk and you can get a bigger bonus package. I’ve yet to redeem any of my Sephora Beauty Insider points and I have a ton. I just can’t justify using my 100points (= $100 worth of products to get to that 100points) to use it on a teeny tiny sample. But in general, the idea of the points promo is still a great thing. It’s better than receiving nothing.  I’ve reached the status of the VIB which is a premium level of Beauty Insiders. You can learn more about that here.

Sephora has a great return policy as well. Don’t have the receipt for something you bought and you want to return it? They’ll just give you store credit for it. That’s something a lot of people don’t know about. But what I recommend doing instead of returning full product items, is that try out a sample or two at Sephora. Go back and get more! Make sure you really love it before you pay out of pocket for it. They’re only going to throw the item you returned away.

Are you a huge fan of Sephora too?

Bingo Julester

So get this. My co-worker is my age and plays Bingo. Usually that’s reserved for 60+ folk isn’t it? You may know her from previous posts where I’ve mentioned her and chatted with her.Say hello to Julie again! She’s a star here on my blog, and I know she reads and giggle when she’s mentioned.
We just work right across the hallway from one another, and when we go out on lunch dates people think we’re long-lost buddies who haven’t seen each other in years. Until we complain that we’re on lunch and we need our bill. Alright, so as I mentioned above, Julie plays TV bingo and has invited me over in the past, and we’re going to eventually play together soon! I’m thinking it’s going to be super fun, I had one of those Bingo board games when I was a kid and I loved it then. I’m not a huge gambler but I do play these sorts of games once in a while. Of course I lose more often than I win. The TV version is pretty similar to this online place called Foxy Bingo. We’re planning on getting together in an evening to play it together! Think I’ll have beginners luck? I hope so.

What does everyone else have planned for the weekend? I’m going to head into the big-city again for a blogger meetup which should be exciting. I haven’t been to one of those in a number of months. The weekend that just passed by wasn’t overwhelmingly busy but we had a lot going on.

Friday night my Boyfriend and I went skating in Uptown where they have this mini ice rink. For the last few Friday’s they’ve been playing House music with a live DJ. I was much more inclined to skate to that music than have nothing at all. We woke up on Saturday morning and of course drove to Toronto to pick up my new wheels for the week. Driving that vehicle is great, I’m totally loving it. On Sunday Tanya my friend (formally known as “running friend”) invited me to her place for a girls night. It was one of those nights where it just hurt to smile at the end of the evening. I was laughing til I couldn’t speak and my abs hurt from keeling over giggling. Clearly a great time was had.

I wish I had taken some photos over the weekend but sometimes you just gotta live in the moment and forget the camera. Am I right?

The hunt for my leather jacket: ended!

A number of years ago I remember going out to the bar with the boyfriend and meeting up with some of his friends. One of his friends girlfriends had this beautiful brown leather jacket. I fell in love with it so much I was tempted to just buy it right off her back. But, seeing as I had just met these people just hours ago I didn’t think it was appropriate to even joke about buying the jacket off of her. I don’t quite remember if the jacket was real or faux leather, and I really don’t remember what it looked like as it was more than 5 years ago now.

But for the past few of years I’ve always kept an eye out at the local Danier Leather stores, trying on random jackets. Why are black jackets more popular than brown? I couldn’t stand trying on the black ones. They just weren’t me. Danier leather jackets also never ended up fitting me the way I wanted it to. I wanted it to hit a certain way on my hips and I wanted it to be tailored in at the sides. A lot of the real leather jackets I tried on, looked very boxy on me. Despite what the sales associate tried to tell me otherwise. Girlfraaan, I know what looks good on me, okay?

I never seriously looked at jackets and just waited patiently for something to catch my eye when I was in a store. Any store. It didn’t even have to be real leather.

Ideally, I would love to own this All Saints Legacy jacket. As soon as I saw it, I loved it. I e-mailed the link to myself wishing for a sale. It’s $550. Oh my word, I don’t think I want one that badly. Slowly but surely my size in the jacket was selling out and I just have this pretty image to now stare at.

On my lunch break one day at work I went solo to the mall and for some reason I went into a store I wouldn’t look twice at. I think they had some cute sweaters on the mannequin. From the corner of my eye I spotted some distressed looking faux leather jacket!I wish the online version looked pretty to post. But instead I’ll link it, because I’ll post my own photos and make it look even bettah. I didn’t even bother to look at the price, I picked it up and tried it on. I must’ve been grinning like a fool because I knew this was the one I was going to get, and wear like nobodies business. It was $50.00 at Suzy Shier and didn’t feel like cheap pleather at all. It was soft, subtle, tucked in at the right areas and was perfectly worn in.

Warmer weather is here, and I’m sporting this faux leather jacket in February. Insane right? Our winter has been messed right up, hah.
