Flirt With Hearts

Valentines-NailsYou guys voted and I delivered. Another weekly feature (first one being Pomeranian Fridays duh), that I hope to keep up on the regular! Let’s dive right in to the first Beauty Talk Tuesday.

It’s time to create some Valentines Day nails, and I’m excited that I can finally photograph these nail photos with ease, since my husband bought me a handy mini tripod for Christmas.

SinfulColorsColours shown left to right: Gogo Girl, Love Sprinkles, Dream On, Decadent.

Channel your inner cupid, whether you prefer baby pinks, vibrant reds, muted violets or an unexpected pop of teal. The new SinfulColours collection features eight nail polishes (only 4 shown) are so affordable and budget friendly. So dazzle up those nails, spoil yourself and get a manicure using one of these great polishes.

SinfulColors-LoveSprinklesIf you’re more of the subtle type yet still want to be a bit playful, try a natural nude pink polish and apply Love Sprinkles on an accent finger. As much as I despise removing glitter polish, I simply can’t stay away from them. Love Sprinkles is a gleaming top coat with tons of baby pink and white flecks of glitter and every once in a while you will get a gorgeous tiny little heart come out onto the nails.

Decadent-and-GogoGirlAdding a touch of flirty to your manicure, try applying two thin coats of Gogo Girl — a gorgeous candy apple red, and as you know I am a huge fan of that one accent nail. So go ahead and apply Decadent, a dazzling red with metallic flakes to a couple of the nails.

SinfulColors-Dream-ONLastly we have a mattifed white polish for the base and the gorgeous plum Dream On painted on as triangles (I used washi tape to create the stencil on my nail). Dream On is a brilliantly induced boysenberry (with this I would suggest using three coats). When I first received these, Dream On was the one I was dying to try out first. Two coats and some of my nails looked darker than the others. While this colour has potential, it requires a lot of work. You will need to apply a top coat on this one too, as the polish looks a bit cheap (you know, dry looking) without it.

SinfulColors are $1.99/each and is now available at Walgreens, Rite Aid and other mass retailers. Follow SinfulColors on Twitter & Facebook. Disclaimer: The nail polishes were sent to me by the PR team. Opinions are my own, I’d like to keep it that way, since I like tellin’ ya how it is.

Come back next Tuesday for a Valentines Day get ready with me post, featuring a few new products coming out for Spring 2015.

Disclaimer: SinfulColors products were sent for review. I never receive paid compensation for a blog post. Opinions are my own.

Explore California: Fremont Older Open Space Preserve

Pom-Header

Prepare yourself folks, this twelfth edition of  POM Friday is going to be photo heavy today.

I’ve been meaning to check out Fremont Older Open Space Preserve for a while, and finally I decided to drive there with Alfie earlier this week. If I was more technical savvy, I’d insert the Instagram video I took of Alfie on the hike, with some beauty views. But you can see that on my instagram feed :)

We only went for a quick jaunt which was a 3km round trip, but I’d love to come back on a weekend with my husband and Alfie again as there were many trails to explore. I just didn’t want to get lost. Trust me, it happens.

Side note if you do take your dogs, note that they do not have garbage cans on site. Of course Alfie decided to take the biggest stinker of his life moments before we got on the trail and stupid me bagged it up AND PUT IT IN MY CAR. You know darn well on the drive home all windows and sunroof was cranked open. Next time it’s sitting beside my car until we were ready to leave.

I brought my bright green nerd pack and tossed in a granola bar, water, and dog bags — then Alfie and I were on our way up the (somewhat) steep trail until we got to Hunters Point. It wasn’t too far from the public parking, and you can choose various lengths of trails, as there were a lot of forks-in-the-road. I love how diverse these trails were, Alfie had a field day barking and saying hello to all the mountain bikers, we walked past a couple of other dogs and their owners and some seasoned hikers with their hiking poles. I’m fairly certain this was a horse riding trail too, so many hoof marks and droppings. Ha!

Now I’ll let the photos do the rest of the talking. Enjoy your weekend!

What I Ate Wednesday #6

What I Ate WednesdayLooks like I’m keeping up the regular schedule of blogging every four months about what I ate on a Wednesday.

Keep reading until the end of the post because I’ll be showing you a bit of a grocery haul and a giveaway for you guys!

daily-choresThings are pretty low key around here today. I’m going to start off by doing my daily chores, and maybe finish the rest of the chores for the week. I have this thing stuck to my fridge, so I can keep myself on a schedule with regards to upkeep on the house. Not everything is marked, but it gives me an idea of what I should do each day. Does anyone else do this sort of thing? I mean, if I don’t keep a list for myself, some parts of the house become dustier or messier than the rest.

Onto What I Ate Wednesday (except, it’s what I ate on Tuesday).

WIAW-EggBagel8:30 // A toasted everything bagel with 1 egg scrambled with fresh mushrooms and tomatoes topped with spinach, cheese and mayo. On the side I added some fresh grapes, a banana and a glass of orange juice.

WIAW-January11:40 // Lately I have been on a hot water with lemon kick. At first I thought it would taste disgusting, but for someone who loves a lot of sugar in her cup of tea in the morning, I have to say — the hot lemon water is good enough to have more than once! Oh, and more grapes. Gotta eat them while they’re fresh man!

WIAW-snackwater3:15 // It’s midday snack time! I tend to gravitate to raw nuts, and whatever else is on hand. This time being snap peas and homemade cheese crackers that taste like goldfish crackers, so that’s what you see on the side. They’re pretty good, but a little annoying to make as my food processor is tiny.

WIAW-Stir-Fry8:00 // Ever since moving to the USA I have been on the hunt for VH Sauces, apparently it’s Canadian. I love a good sweet ‘n sour chicken stir fry, so while I was home in Newfoundland I asked my Mom for her recipe. Of course homemade tastes better, is cheaper and much healthier for you. The stir fry isn’t all that colourful, thinking back I should have added a different coloured bell pepper, and added in some broccoli. Next time.

I have a specific time that I like to grocery shop, it’s around 10-11am, after the morning commuter rush and right before lunch time. I tend to hit up a couple of my favourite grocery stores rather than doing all my shop at one. I mean, the deals are everywhere and never at the same one store. Trader Joes, Sprouts, and Smart & Final are my go-to. Mainly because they’re all in the same plaza and I feel like the larger chains (Safeway or Lucky) are more expensive. So, I did my weekly grocery shop yesterday and picked up a bunch of stuff. Most of it was from Sprouts because I was supposed to go to one of their store’s grand openings up in Daly City. But I was still ‘stuck’ in Canada with the weather when it was going on.

Jessica introduced me to Sprouts when I first moved to California in February. Since I was tagging along with her on a daily basis for over a week while she was driving me around looking for places to live, it was inevitable we’d go grocery shopping together. Sprouts is basically the place where I grab the freshest produce. At times, it can be fresher and cheaper than the bargain bin grocery store that I frequent. Cha-ching.

I was given a $25 Sprouts gift card to spend there, and here’s what I got (for $39 in total): Sprouts-haul
