Five Things Friday . 008

Jeeze — it really has been months since I did a Five Things Friday post. I gave up on that a bit quick, didn’t I? Considering I only posted 7 weeks worth, and now onto the ‘8th week’ of it. Let’s see if I can keep it up again ;)

This summer, although I haven’t been blogging a ton, has been quite busy! I’ll write about it all eventually but for now I kinda want to go old school with the blogging and not have it be too curated, too polished, too perfect. There’s definitely a time and place for that fancy-pants blogging but I’m not feeling it this summer nor am I reading a ton of blogs lately, and hey that’s okay right!

01. ALFIE|

Let’s start with this cutie. We’re still going on adventures and he definitely gets stuck in a routine. Now if I don’t feed him his breakfast or supper at a particular time, he starts grunting and whining at me! He’s knows what he wants too, because I ask him “What do you want?” and he guides me to wherever he desires. Whether it be me opening up a window for him, or getting his food ready for him, ha! We went on an adventure to chase totality for the solar eclipse, all the way up in Idaho. Are you guys interested in hearing about the trip? It was long…. omg. 26 hours round trip and many more hours in the car just adventuring in Nevada and Idaho. Me arse was killin’ me from sittin!

02. PASS THE DECAF|

I’ve been drinking decaf coffee for a little while now. I was addicted and ‘needed’ to go a few times a week back in the winter. But before, it was all for the taste until I got hooked. Now I roam through random coffee spots just to break up the day, people watch and/or write blog posts. Tom ‘n Toms coffee is a spot I went to this week, which was a nice change. I only spotted it as we drove past it last weekend!

03. MAC x SAMANTHA RAVNDAHL|

A few months ago MAC collaborated with a handful of YouTubers from various countries to create their own custom lipstick, and only have it available in the YouTubers home-country. Since I’m from Canada, I lucked out and got my hands on the Canadian MAC x Samantha Ravndahl’s nude lipstick shade. It’s gorgeous, and I’ll create a look with it soon! Has anyone gotten their paws on Fleur de Force’s lipstick? I would’ve loved to, simply to support her, but the colour wasn’t up my ally if I’m being completely honest.

04. DECLUTTER|

The past two years I’ve been obsessed with reading all about, and watching on YouTube, anything to do with decluttering. I’m not sure I’d ever become a minimalist by any means — but I definitely want to declutter my makeup an awful lot more than I recently did (watch that video here if you missed it!).

05. LATHER UP|

This combo reminds me of summer so bad now, and I don’t want to give up the scent going into Fall. Whenever I hop out of the shower I lather my legs and arms with the Aveda composition oil in the delicious Shampure scent, and on my torso/neck/back/etc I’ve been using Tree Hut Shea Body Butter in Coconut Lime (mmm!) it smells SO good, and believe it or not, they pair well together. At least, I’m pretty sure I smell awesome — ha!

01. KIA CADENZA PROGRAM|

[Disclaimer: This was a sponsored campaign with Kia #ad #Cadenza17] Yesterday I took an at-home test drive in a second gen in the new 2017 Kia Cadenza. A luxury Kia at that! A trained Kia representative literally came to my front door, rang the bell (Alfie went wild as you’d expect) and off we went exploring in San Jose for 90 minutes! The last time I drove a Kia was around this time last year, it was the Sedona so although it was a bit fancy-pants too, it wasn’t anything like the luxury of the Kia. I know I know! Kia + Luxury together doesn’t really go together in my head either. But SO much has changed over the past decade with this brand, and trust me – it feels like you’re sitting in a higher end name brand vehicle.

I kept saying “Oh whoa, cool” with the features that were shown to me. Too bright out your back windshield? No problem, hit the remote control on the center console and boom a little sun visor comes right up from the rear window and you have yourself a little less sun exposure. Wild right? I got it on video if you have IG stories and want to see it before it disappears (spiffykerms on Instagram).

The at-home test drive is a unique experience that I’ve never really had before. I didn’t feel pressured to talk about what other vehicles I was interested in, or whether or not I’m interested in purchasing said vehicle. I felt quite comfortable with it all, and even had a laugh or two as we were driving around the Bay Area. The at-home test drive is currently available in these cities: Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Miami, New York, San Francisco (Bay Area), and Washington DC. As for the dates you can choose this weekend or Friday June 16.

Perhaps you’re in the market for a new vehicle and you’re not sure what to narrow down. Don’t want to be hoppin’ all over the farm going from dealership to dealership – do the at-home test drive man! I bet it’d be incredibly quick and convenient for so many people and families. You can sign up for your own test drive here.

02. FATHERS DAY GIFT IDEAS|

Holy smokes, Father’s Day is coming up quickly. I was at the mall a few days ago getting my wedding ring inspected (and they took it from me again to get ‘fixed’ – another story, another time, and yes I’m beyond angry) and I overheard a Mother and Daughter shopping for Father’s Day presents. Last year for Christmas was the first one without my Daddio, but I have a brother and a lot of nephews! For the older boys and my Brother, I gifted them a Harry’s razor set – and now Harry’s Razors have come out with a Father’s Day limited edition set which come with a little block-stand for the razor, extra razors, and . I think Harry’s launched not too long ago, found ’em on Instagram (thanks to Target Does It Again), and have been purchasing them for myself ever since. I don’t know why but it seems I can always get a closer and smoother shave with a men’s razor. Plus, mine’s orange and I kinda love it.

03. TRIP TO PORTLAND|

My trip to Portland with Heels and Wheels driving event, then spending time with my pal Megan was fantastic! I cannot wait to finished editing my photos of the second part of my trip, so I can post it up for yee guys asap. Let me tell ya one thing though, I definitely ate my entire few days through Portland. So many great places to eat, and excellent lattes. I swear it wasn’t because I was on vacation-mode, but the lattes were truly the best I’ve had in my life. Portland, I’ll be back for ya.

04. MIZUNOS|

I’m still working with, and running in Mizuno’s. These are the newest additions to my ever-growing running shoe collection, but they’re still my favourite line of shoe at Mizuno, the Wave Rider’s. These are perfect for the June Gloom weather as they’re made of Gortex!

05. DIY HAIR ELASTICS|

DIY hair elastics. I made them back in 2014, or 2015 and now I have no idea where the rest of the one’s I made disappeared. I bought them on eBay this time as it was so much cheaper than the other website I used a few years ago. It’s SO easy, literally cut to whatever length you want and bam, you got some swanky little hair ties. Just search for ‘5 yard fold over elastic’, and I paid $3 + free shipping for these three bundles. :)

01. PORTLAND |

Well friends, hello from Portland Oregon! It’s my last day here and I was flown up here on a press-trip, and today was the last hurrah of the event so I’ve dedicated my entire day to spending the entire day with one of my best pals, Megan! If you don’t know already, Megan is from Canada too and used to live in California — that’s where we met, hung out for a month then she moved away from me :( I have not seen her in two years. Follow along Snapchat + Instagram stories because I’m sure as heck gonna be storyin’ that up today!

02. R.I.P MAKEUP |

I was too angry to write about it last week, but I lost some causalities in the toilet. Luxury makeup at that. 2 Burberry items, my $$ Cle de Peau concealer … y tho!? Angry isn’t the word to describe. I wasn’t even in the bathroom at the time it happened. It was all in an unzipped makeup bag that fell over, and five pieces flew into the toilet. The only thing I didn’t care about was the bronzer that was 95% finished up. I’ll be honest though, at least it wasn’t a full stick of my cle de peau concealer, that too was almost up but I guarantee I had more than a few months left out of that tube. But I sure as hell am not putting toilet water makeup on my face. So, as much as it hurt — in the garbage it went. :(  It had to be the pricey pieces, didn’t it! Gah, it irritated me so much because I never store my makeup on the bathroom counters, as soon as I’m done with it, it gets put back in my makeup bag and under the counter. But not this time.

03. SCRUNCHIES |

I’m so pleased with myself. I’ve been on the hunt for some velvet scrunchies for a while and noticed that this store has 3 colour ways to choose from. They actually arrived last week but I’m still pretty stoked about the purchase. I don’t care who hates them — bring the scrunchies back! Buy ’em here!

04. HIGH END HAIR |

Since January, I’ve been rotating between Aveda shampoo/conditioner combo, and the Kérastase volumizing shampoo + conditioner (except I don’t think it’s labeled as a conditioner). Since changing from drug-store hair wash back to my ol’ faithfuls I’ve noticed a significant difference in how my hair looks and grows. I feel like it’s finally growing longer than a certain length again. The Kérastase is actually a volumizing set, and immediately when I put in the shampoo I notice my hair feels thicker right away. While it’s something I myself would only notice on myself, it’s kind of a nice feeling to have that extra bit of hair feeling. Does that make any sense? Anyway, since my hair gets used to using only 1 brands in the shower, I tend to switch it up every few days and rotate between the Aveda and the Kérastase. The combo is workin’ out well for me.

05. FINGER PUPPETS |

I purchased Goldilocks and the Three bears finger-puppets for a friends kiddo, and I thought they did such an exceptional job. I paired the gift with the old school Golden Book, cute hey? I remember getting knitted finger-puppets at the hospital when I had bloodwork done as a kid. These have come a long way – look how fancy they are! They came all the way from France, a little pricey but I think it’s worth it [PuppetsCo on Etsy].

How was your week?
