Loft Bar & Bistro, San Jose

Loft-outsideI want to like this restaurant and I will give them a second chance whenever I head downtown San Jose for supper because the food was good but they goofed right left and center with everything from our appetizers to our main courses. However, they were extra apologetic to us, giving us a couple of free desserts and an appetizer for next time. I wouldn’t blame it on the servers because we got there at a weird time when the servers were switching shifts.

Loft-up

Loft-Bar-artworkWe ate upstairs. Love the exposed brick and the long restaurant.

Alright, like I said, our food was great. But it was messed up.

Loft-Bar-breadThe bread was good, super fresh.

The Guy and I cannot stand onions. So when we ordered our turkey sliders we asked if it came with onions (since it’s not written on the menu), our first server said she’d check then make sure there wasn’t any on.

Loft-Bar-turkey-slidersLook what came out. HAHAHA oh man, an onion turkey sandwich, with onion fries. It was laughable at least. The only food which luckily both my husband and I agree to despise is onions. So whenever we order anything we make sure to ask the servers if it comes with it. Our other appetizer, crab cakes was completely forgotten about! Deep breath. Our second server was such a doll, apologizing and taking stuff off the bill.

Loft-Bar-chicken-wrapWhat I ordered for my main meal. The wrap was drool-worthy, and the fries kinda reminded me like McDonalds french fries (and I love my McDonalds).

Loft-Bar-The-Guys-mealThe Guy ordered this. I forget what he ordered, oops! The food was great, reasonable pricing, and it converts to a lounge after the restaurant closes where DJs play their music, and they move the tables off to the side and the upstairs can have a dance area on the weekends!

  1. That is totally the kind of place I love to lunch at. It looks so quaint & cozy there – perfect for lunch with the girls.

  2. What a cool looking place, I love the vibe there. I really like the look of the wrap, I order that wherever I go.

  3. Even though I am from the bay area, I don’t get around going to the south bay that often (because of heavy traffic). I think it’s been more than a year actually! I wonder if that place has another outlet in the Peninsula. It sure looks nice!

    1. @Cara (@StylishGeek): I SWEAR I luck out on traffic wherever I go. I’ve been going back and fourth to San Francisco often within this past month, at all different times of the day and haven’t had issues at all. I’m going to knock on some wood :)

Oh, and I’m not sure if this place is everywhere in the Bay Area, or just in the d/t San Jose area.

  4. I chuckled when I read about the onion fiasco. The picture really speaks for itself, lol. Onion galore. Did they make it right after that? They are lucky you like to give second chance. Hopefully the second time they will make the food right from the very beginning.

  5. AHHH as a bar/ restaurant owner I am freaking out for you. I HATE when misshaps happen like this but honestly it all comes down to training of their staff and execution. A server SHOULD KNOW THE MENU LIKE THE BACK OF THEIR HAND! There shouldn’t be a “lemme ask” unless it is for an allergy, which we always insist our staff double checks. It does look like a great place and the food does photograph well, so hopefully it tastes as good as it looks, but I guess you’ll never know about the crab cakes huh? Little mistakes make a great time lack luster and that sucks. You also should have had a manager making the rounds and checking on your visit if they didn’t. Again, staff training and execution. Give them another go though like you said… hopefully your visit whipped them into shape!

  6. I have never been there before. The food looks great though. Good thing that first meal was taken off your bill. I’ve always hated when my order gets messed up, but it’s always nice to have a great server.

  7. If I’m ever in the area I’ll have to check this place out. Looks like great food and a cool atmosphere.

  8. Looks like a great place to stop by and grab a sandwich to eat. Love how they turn into nightlife seems like fun.

  9. Too bad they didn’t make the best first impression, but nice that they tried all they could to make it up. Had to chuckle about the onions – that was a real onion fest on that plate I’m really liking how your Guy’s meal looks!

  10. Ooooo this place looks great!! These are the kinds of places I’m all about eating at! Wish I was in San Jose so I can try it myself!
