Acting like an adult sucks

Occasionally, people say very inappropriate things.  Most times I smile and nod because it’s very rude to overreact especially at certain functions. That’s vague. But going into detail will allow me to open up and get personal on here, and I don’t want to offend anyone. I’ve waited this one out, but I wanted to just post it and get it off my chest, even if I’m not being all that specific.

Ideally, I would like to overreact. But I remember that I’m an adult and I cannot throw a tantrum or sulk just because someone threatened me in a mean way. Why did I even let it get to me? It shouldn’t have. Thankfully I explained my situation to a co-worker and she gave me a little pep talk about how it’s frustrating to let those insecurities beat you down. I’m a strong woman, I do not want those insecurities. I even had a bad dream about it, which made me wake up upset. I do not want to feel bothered when people throw verbal punches when they probably didn’t mean anything by it.

Sometimes you just have to smile and nod.

  1. So true! You think as adults that others would stop acting like children, however some things never change. So smart to just smile and nod! :-)
