SKINCARE
-How many times do you wash your face daily?
Once in the mornings! Once in the evenings if I work out, because I get a shower.
-What skin type do you have? (dry, oily, combo)
Dry. All year round. In the Ontario winter’s it gets crazy dry and kind of difficult to keep moisturized.
What is your current facial wash?
Dove or Ivory Soap. Whatever is in the shower… probably why my face is so darn dry, huh?
-Do you exfoliate?
1x per week, if I remember.
-What brand do you use?
St. Ive’s Apricot Scrub. I’m not exactly sure what it does, but it’s abrasive and I guess it does what it’s supposed to?
-What moisturizer do you use?
Clean and Clear moisturizing lotion (purple capped bottle)
-Do you have freckles?
No
-Do you use eye cream?
No, Should I?
-Do you or did you have acne prone skin?
Only when I eat bad things. They say it’s a myth, but it’s really not! If I eat healthy, I glow. If I don’t, I look like a teenager.
-Did you ever have to use Pro-activ?
No, because I didn’t have bad skin until I was in my 20′s. But I did use benzoyle peroxide stuff before. WASH YOUR HANDS. My towel has bleach stains on it now from that. Oops.
MAKEUP
-What foundation do you use?
At the moment I’m using a mixture between Chanel Pro Lumiere, and Laura Mercier’s tinted foundation. I don’t think I like either for all-day wear. It wears off quickly. My drug store brand I don’t recall doing that :(
-How about concealer?
Lise Watier concealer wheel (that I bought in October) it’s my favorite. When it’s drying out a bit, I squirt a bit of moisturizer on a clean brush, and wipe it in there. Then it gets creamy again, and so easy to blend.
-Do you know your undertone color?
Yes. PINK. I wish I was olive.
-What do you think of fake eyelashes?
They can be pretty, if applied correctly. I haven’t and probably will not wear them. I have long lashes as it is.
-Did you know that you are supposed to change your mascara every 3 months? |
I actually like my mascara a bit dryer than when you open it and it’s all new and wet. But I normally throw it out after 3-4 months anyway. I never spend good money on a mascara.
-What brand of mascara do you use?
I rarely buy mascaras because I don’t wear it all the time. Right now I’m going through my insane amount of free mascara that I got (I place one item in an order, then I do another order on MAC’s website. So I always get freebies lol). But now I’m using my Sephora sampler mascara (that I got in my birthday kit).
-Sephora or MAC?
Sephora has a huge array of product lines to choose from. But they’re always sold out of stuff and crowded. That is, until I went to Bay and Bloor and all the SA’s were helping me at each station. It was a Sunday afternoon, and I was the ONLY customer in the store. Awesome!? MAC is also great for their eye shadows, and face products. Hard choice, but I’d have to say Sephora for the obvious diverse selection.
-Do you have a MAC Pro-card?
I am not a Pro at anything related to Cosmetics. At all.
-What makeup tools do you use in make up application?
MAC 187 for foundation, MAC 134 for bronzer, BE Concealer brush (which came in a kit a long time ago) for concealer.
-Do you use make-up base/primer for the eyes?
I actually only wear my primer/base and rarely use eyeshadow! Right now I’m loving MAC’s Rubenesque paint pot.
-For the face?
Too afraid to try a face primer. I don’t want my face to feel like buttah. However I used a sample of Smashbox’s primer and makeup literally glides on. I didn’t notice any different staying powder. But then again I was out in the hot sun with it on.
-What is your favorite eyeshadow (color or shade)?
Probably something nude like Brule by MAC.
-Do you use pencil or liquid eyeliner?
A brown cream stick by Covergirl. I go through phases of wearing eyeliner.
-How often do you poke your eyes with an eyeliner pencil?
I don’t poke myself with any pencils because I don’t use them. They tug on my skin. I do poke myself with the eyelash curler. OUCH!
-What do you think of pigment eyeshadows?
Not for me. Too much work + I am too clumsy and cannot blend any eyeshadow.
-Do you use mineral makeup?
Not anymore. I used BareMinerals or BareEssentuals, I did love it but it was always hard to find and I didn’t want to order it online again. Now I’m about the liquid foundation.
-What is your favorite lipstick?
I only own one! It’s a shade called Darling, and the product line is GOSH. Very nude, very me.
-How about lipgloss?
I don’t wear gloss. My hair sticks to it! I wear Avene Lip Balm like it’s going out of style. I have three right now, and most likely all are misplaced in my purse, car or at home. Where art thou favorite lip balm!? I neeeeed you.
-What is your favorite blush to use?
I LOVE both of my MAC blushes.
-Do you buy your makeup on ebay?
No, ew.
-Do you like drugstore makeup?
Obviously yes, since I use Rimmel and CoverGirl.
-Do you go to CCO’s? (cosmetic company outlets)
Haven’t been. Not really that obsessed with makeup to go there.
Did you ever consider taking make-up classes?
No, I can watch what I learn online on YouTube videos. Makeup By Tiffany D, All That Glitters 21, Juicy Star 07…. a few favs!
-Are you clumsy in putting on makeup?
No, not really. Sometimes I get mascara on my eyelids though. Nothing a wet q-tip can’t fix.
-Name a makeup crime that you hate?
Tanning bed skin. Use lotions! No more tanning beds!!!
-Do you like colorful shades of makeup (lipstick, eyeshadow) or neutral ones?
Neutrals!
-Which celebrity always has great make up?
I don’t look at people’s makeup really… so I can’t answer this one honestly. Just like I can’t buy diet pills. Not my thing.
-If you could leave the house using just ONE make up item, what would you use?
Foundation.
-Could you ever leave the house without any makeup on?
All the time on the weekends!
-Do you think you look good even without any makeup on?
I have uneven skin tone on my rosey cheeks and always look like I have white raccoon eyes (not dark circles. WHITE circles). So it’s kind of weird. It’s a love/hate relationship.
-In your opinion, what is the BEST makeup line?
I can’t pick a favorite. I always like to mix and match. Isn’t that the beauty?
-What do you think of Makeup?
Fun to play with!

Hey Nancy–
Good make-up starts with good skin. Spend a few bucks on a good face wash, exfoliant and moisturizer. It will really make a difference. St. Ives is actually one of the worst exfoliants you can use on your face. The little walnut shells actually can rip open your pores. I’m sure you have played around with moisturizers as well–but the clean and clear lines are typically based towards normal and oily skins. You may want to try something different, especially in the winter. And as always, give it a week or two when you try a new product.
Nancy says: Thanks Erin! What sort of exfoliant would you recommend?
http://www.thebodyshop-usa.com/facial-exfoliators/prod1032410 I love the Vitamin C line at the body shop, and this stuff works well for me. I have normal skin that often gets oily, though. Basically, you just want to look for an exfoliant that has smooth round balls instead of exfoliators that are jagged.
I did this! It was fun :D
