I cook for my Boyfriend and I, practically 7 days a week. It’s a rarity that I take a break and stick a frozen pizza in the oven. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining as I absolutely love to be in the kitchen and I’ve also been blessed with my Mom’s absolutely amazing skills in the kitchen. That is, until I started baking a few weeks ago. I don’t know what to suggest to you how to become a clean baker, but once you get me started, there’s not a clean counter top in sight. That, and the darn cook book that I use gets totally haggard and raw egg gets splashed up on my cook books! Not cool folks! It’s pretty gross, and I don’t get grossed out that easily. Except for raw egg, and chicken juice. Those two just do me in.
I found a website called Bookhug® and it’s actually a little stainless steel stand that has mini slip guards (s hown to your
right — click for a larger photo) attached to the bottom so while you’re cooking (or baking, for that matter) you can place your book upon this Bookhug and cover it with a piece of plastic wrap and your recipes are safe and secure, with much more counter space to make a mess on! It’s easy to store away in your drawer or in the cupboards, it really doesn’t take up much space.
A few days ago I stumbled upon the Bookhug website, from there after I knew I had to contact the owner, and I requested to do a review. Lona so kindly sent me one in th e mail, and I picked it up at the post office last night! There were a few shots taken with my camera, to give you an idea of the size of this cute Bookhug® — I love the stamped heart on the back, and isn’t the name adorable?
The heart stamp — what a nice touch!
By the way, since Christmas is coming up and you still haven’t any idea as to what to buy a certain someone on your gift list … try picking up one! This doesn’t have to be just for kitchen use either. You can use this in a home office setting or even at school. You can either get them at Lee Valley [Lee Valley currently only sells the stainless steel ones], or on Bookhug®‘s website; which only accepts PayPal at this time. Bookhug’s site has a variety of materials to choose from, but I personally love the stainless steel one that I received! Bonus? It’s made in Canada!

The bookhug thing is a really good idea! But I never really use cookbooks. I’m guilty of finding recipes on my laptop, and then bringing my laptop into the kitchen and following the recipe that way. Luckily, no accidents yet! Which is pretty good, considering I’m a pretty messy baker too :-)
I get what you mean about using the gym bathroom to get ready. I don’t like people watching me while I put on my make-up and fuss over my hair, but I put up with it if its the only time of the day I can schedule a workout. I sometimes even bring my own hairdryer from home, because I don’t like the ones they supply at the gym. I tell myself that the people who give me strange looks are just jealous ;-)
lol I’d never bring my laptop in the kitchen! I’m so messy, it would guarantee a write-off of my poor ‘tapper.
